Either a freeware online game / online demo that I could play with my 2 friends.
I have a mac and they both have PCs. We have been playing Enemy Territory mostly, but am looking for something else. Doesn't have to be FPS can be any game type. I am having a hard time finding some that is compatible with both.
The first thing that springs to mind are Flash games, given the minimal requirements on both parties to get them all up and running. ISketch, for example.

My friends used to get pretty competitive over the golf game at http://www.electrotank.com but that was a while ago - I think there's a paid version now. Check it out, though - there'll be a few trial levels still.

While they're not free, many of them should be available in the bargain bin.
Most of their games are available for the Mac, so you could have some Warcraft III or Starcraft fun. If you are gamers, I'd imagine that either you or your friends would have at least one copy of most of their games anyway.
I'm not sure how multiplayer goes between a Mac and a PC, but I wouldn't expect there to be issues.

Works for Mac and PC, and has online multiplayer/LAN. Should be perfect.
That's what Wikipedia says, at least. Never tried it myself.
Should I look for them at the docks?
