What is the title of this children's book from 70s/80s?

You guys are awesome at finding obscure things so I thought I'd ask here! I believe this book is from the 70s or 80s but I could be wrong. It's illustrated with bright colors. Inside covers are lined with illustrations of a clock at different times. It might be a cuckoo clock. As for the story I remember few details. A child isn't doing the things he's supposed to do and uses his imagination to do them? Like his mashed potatoes and peas become a mountain that he has to eat, I think I remember a giant - maybe a cave of some kind? Any ideas? Driving me crazy trying to remember this one and google keeps trying to bring up a book about siblings that I know isn't it.
