Any word on group seating for BYOC or when that information will be available?

Kind of surprised it let you do that. I would email pax_questions@paxsite.com and/or registration@paxsite.com

For people that have unusually large power requirements or want to have a second monitor, it's been allowed to purchase a 2nd BYOC badge for yourself. Two people and 4 BYOC spots is not unheard of for this reason.

Fair enough. Guess I would put a "HEY! Are you sure you want to do this?" alert in there, but it is a valid use case.

Traditionally that has never been available until maybe a month or so prior to PAX. This is *way* too early to have any information on that.

Kind of bummed that I missed out on the Westin this year, but I honestly slept better at the Renaissance anyway. Having to carry a coat all day kind of sucks, but I was pretty drained due to the doors between the rooms making anything above a whisper seem like they're shouting in your ear.

There are a few coat checks in the convention center. Sometimes the line is really long though.

Bought a pass, but still pissed that these things sell out so fast now and there is no option to resell them. So many people cannot make certain plans this far in advance and won't be able to go -- hopefully I can make it work, but most of my friends can't just drop money like this without advanced warning.

i'm a big fan of the bcec coat checks. the line can get long (though that's usually more toward the end of the day when everyone is picking up), but the staff is pretty efficient. i've had really positive experiences and would definitely recommend using them.

This is pretty ludicrous. That was what, thirty hours? I didn't reg yesterday thinking I'd have at least a week, then I get the 'almost sold out' tweet at work and before I get home 3-days are gone. I'm going to book Friday and Saturday passes, but this is seriously bogus.

Yup. Happened with Prime. This is how PAX will be from now on, which is why I'm majorly disgruntled with no face-value sale facilitation.

They didn't even announce on the main site that they were for sale, did they? I had the PAX page open in a tab in Chrome for a week or two anticipating this. They seem to not want to do a like "disperse passes every few days" sort of thing, just making it a lottery of the most obsessed people who have the cash available within two days of the announcement...

That's one way to do it, I guess.

Prime sold completely out in < 24 hours. This should not have been surprising.

I hope they cut down on the amount of people for the price they're charging this year. $70 to get in lines 3 hours early for every event? Ugh.
$70 is still pretty damned cheap for this type of event. It's only a $5 increase.

so true. there are plenty of conventions that don't have half the content pax has, but that charge 3 or 4x more. it's really an amazing value for cost, which is probably why so many people are willing to shell out the extra cash to travel from all over.

So true. I live less than an hour away from Boston, but our group still shells out money for a hotel just to be on site. It is more than worth it!

They are sold out of 3-day passes. I wouldn't expect to see any additional 3days to be sold later on. If you haven't gotten a pass and want to go, you can still buy all three one day passes and swap badges out each day.

This is exactly true. They do not stagger release the badges. Any that are available after this would be ones that were still in someone's cart that they never checked out, or some screwed up or canceled order.

  • Josh5890Josh5890 ChicagoRegistered User regular
I think that these badges have gone much more smoothly than Prime 2012. If I recall they started to sell them, then had to stop because of a crash. After that they still sold out within 24 hours. This time around we have been super edgy because of the quick Prime sellout and yet we still had 30 or so hours to get our passes. I'd say that is pretty fair.

    Now the hotels...

Don't get me wrong, it's totally worth it, but they're not even moving to a bigger venue and there's probably more people this year. So why the increase?

Either way, super excited. I was at work when they went on sale and attacked my boyfriend with text messages to order them immediately. Good thing we did...

I agree I really just have an issue with the scalping and gouging this is an event for charity and to help improve the gaming community and to try to set a good example and to help forum writers learn not write run on sentences and to give us all a great way to meet and share our love of games.

Seeing someone abuse that to gouge some 20 something living paycheck to paycheck that couldn't buy there ticket in the first 35 hours, or the people that care and just haven't heard of Pax and will be dieing to get a 3-day pass a week before the event. It makes me so mad.

  • lifefeedlifefeed Registered User regular
You might hate scalping, but scalping makes it possible to go to the event if you didn't catch the magic 36 hour window. Without scalping, there's just no chance.

If you want to help people living paycheck to paycheck, there's other options. Broadway does it by holding back some tickets, and selling them cheaply to students willing to wait in line for 8 hours the day of the event.

(Note: I'm neck-deep in an economics 101 textbook right now, so my opinions are probably naively colored.)

This is not an event for charity. Scalping is also not the topic of this thread.

That means they'll most likely need more staff (PA, Reed, Convention Center), possibly use more of the conference rooms for more panels that weren't in use last East, more power consumption, etc. I doubt PA is just upping the price for no reason.

Likely costs increased. Could be the convention center cost increased, transportation costs for all the stuff it takes to put on a PAX, other overhead things, etc... Taxes, etc...

What's annoying to me is that the system doesn't seem to have any sort of mechanism to try and stop an obvious scalping in progress. I'm pretty sure those people buy more than 2-5 passes on the same card. At some point, you'd expect there to be a message that asks the person to call headquarters and explain what all the extra passes are for... ideally, anyway.

And, well, no student discount, but that's just my looming student loans and Ramen noodle diet talking. :P

Actually there were anti-scalping mechanisms explained during registration.

Once again, scalping is not the topic of this thread.

If there were a student discount, this likely would BE the student price, and all the other ones would be inflated.

    Edit:
Please note: In order to keep things fair, we currently have badge limits of 5 per person. If we determine you are ordering under different names and multiple addresses, all of your orders will be cancelled immediately.

This is true. I live in MA, so I know what it's like to be taxed here. Almost half my paycheck goes to taxes ugh.

Anyway, PAX really doesn't have control over scalpers buying the tickets, unfortunately. At least they had a limit this year. So getting mad at that isn't going to come up with a solution.

I would suggest for next year (considering the 3-day pass window is only going to get narrower) that they open registration during non-work hours? I know there are obviously people coming from around the world, but considering it's an eastern event, I don't see the harm in opening registration when people in EST aren't at work or school? Might give people more of a chance. Just a thought. Not sure this is the thread for suggestions, so sorry if I'm off-topic.

I meant automatic. The message implies that someone will be manually figuring this out. By then the damage will have been done, as it were.

But since it is not the topic of the thread, the discussion can stop. In general, though, if more badges did suddenly, magically appear on the site, I wonder if they'd have a way for your to refund 3 1-day passes for a 3-day one.

What is this about not being able to resell passes? I told my friends if they were on the fence to go for it because it's always been easy to resell your badge if you couldn't use it.

Also, I'm surprised there was nothing on the PA site about passes going on sale until they were already about gone. It's starting to take a lot of effort just to go to one of these :/

  • SupervillianSupervillian Registered User regular
I remember that last year, after the 3 day passes were sold out, some people returned theirs and then the tickets were made available again for people to buy.

Does anyone know if that will happen again this year?
AKA, could you get lucky and check and see that a ticket or two opened up?
Or are all the 3 day passes 100% sold out?

Following official_pax on twitter is hardly a lot of effort.

Also, the official stance is that there is no PA approved method for resale of badges. This is not a new phenomenon. Badges are transferable if a trusted source gives another trusted source a physical badge (the badge is all you need to get into PAX), but no official resale (like via these forums) is available.
