Laptop speakers keep cutting out

No matter the media being played, (games, Youtube, MP3s, whatever) the audio on my laptop keeps cutting in and out every few seconds. I've restarted, reinstalled the audio driver from Toshiba's website. When I put in headphones, the sound comes in through the headphones fine. Is there anything else I should try?

If it's working through headphones, I'd suspect the speakers themselves or the wire connecting them to the system board. In most laptops that's not actually too hard of a replacement, but it will involve partial disassembly.

Everything at this point requires opening the laptop and checking the physical connections or outright replacement of the speakers.
