Thread gives false hope.
I have no idea where it is. It should be here. Those liars.
Hopefully tomorrow.

Indeed it does.
Gabe and Tycho in 3d a little bit offputting, but everything Fruit Fucker was completely awesome.
I'M A TWITTER SHITTER
The 2D opening was pretty awesome, if seemingly low on frames.
Looks a lot worse than I was expecting, I kind of want to puke a little.
HOWEVER:
I appreciate that we're talking about an indie budget game that's being made in the Torque engine, but still, that's pretty... bad.
Edit: Wait, so is there gameplay in both 2D and 3D? I'm confused.
There are exactly 3 frames of video containing that "however" image. I'm no insider so I don't know what to make of it, but...
That 'however' image is the real game footage. The other ones are cut-scenes.
Because, in that 'however' image, you can see the third, custom-created character in the PA style that they talked about.
I hope.
Edit - beat'd
I hope so too, it makes sense.
And in any case, I think we'd all prefer 2D cutscenes of the kind at the beginning of the video.
But I'd be happy with the 2D-on-3D hybrid (the last image in Zack's post)... just as long as the ugly-ass full 3D is kept to cutscenes.
Claymation look - cutscene.
Close 3D...in-engine scene(like when talking to people/looking at things).
Other shot - running around town.
Maybe? Hopefully?
to me the "however" image still looks completely 3d. Are you sure its 2d? I think its an angle that gives it that look, but if you look at tycho (gabe is a tidge too white) you can see shading on his arm that bespeaks of three dimensions.
I agree though, the opening "comic" footage really got me excited, it looked great...unfortunately it looks like gabe just drew a very long picture and had the camera panning across it with some minor animations that could have been done in any gif animation software for all i can tell....will still be awesome if they use that throughout the game to progress story though, it really looks beautiful.
It's a fuckin indie game so it's decent. It's got RPG elements so its cool.
I just drank 2 energy drinks and now my fingers tingle.
Edit: I liked how I totally disappointed everyone at first. I laughed.
It's still 3D. But it's the angle and distance.
I'm thinking it'll jump in up close when you're fighting/talking/examining items.
It looks very-much 2D-on-3D or cel-shaded to me. The lines are too crisp and the colours are to uniform for it to just be zoomed-out 3D.
Perhaps the game goes into a cell-shaded style for character models when you zoom right out.
Gabes related to Popeye.
huh.
I'll remain hopeful, to quote sunjammer off of the Kotaku boards:
It really does look like it's 3d that goes to cell shading when you zoom out. It's interesting. Look at that 3 person image again, one of the characters bodies is 3d but his arm looks cell shaded.

and the '3d gabe and tycho running around the town' footage did look like it was in-game or something, which i find a little disappointing.
