Playstation Move...worth it?

I have a local shop where I can get the basic camera, controller, sports package for 40 bucks. I sort of miss the goofy fun of kinect and wii and thought out might be worth grabbing. I already have a few games that support it but the camera aspect concerns me. Kinect used to work terribly for us in one room because of the room lighting...anyone have experience with the system in poor or non natutal lighting?

I've had it for about 2 months now and it sits in a box, in the attic. If the console was in my room I wouldn't mind the wires everywhere but its one too many for me sadly. The actual controller itself works fantastically IMO. Used it with eyepets and infamous 2 and it seemed fine. Though I guess it boils down to how each individual game uses it.

I think you'll need to find an individual game where the Move really makes it a new experience--because that's generally where you're stuck now with Sony's very quiet support of it, as far as I can tell. If so, then yes?

I got it pretty much for half off and then bought Dead Space Extraction and House of the Dead Overkill, both of which were originally Wii games. I've still barely touched it, though, having only played 2 levels in DS and not touched HotD. It controlled fine for me, but I just don't find much desire to play those games at the moment.

I love fake golf. For me it's a huge selling point. My son wants eye pet which looks neat. I do love light gun games as well and it looks like move got a few of those. I worry a bit that the camera will have issues but for the price out doesn't seem like a major risk.

I bought it for Killzone 3, played with it in the beta... loved it... but by the time I was able to buy Killzone 3, all my friends had moved on.

I haven't used it since... and have since tried to sell it to unsuspecting friends many times for a very low price to no avail.

I don't think it's worth it at any price. You could buy a game that you'll actually play (and enjoy) for that much money.

How old is your son? Because I bought it solely for eyepets for my 3yr old nephew and its a big hit. My nieces love it too, aged 4 and 7. We just don't have the room for it in our living room sadly.

He's 8. Does the play need space more like a wii or the larger space the kinect wants?

I know I mostly want to get some controllers for cheap somehow if just for Joust.

eyepets doesn't require all that much space, its more akin to those card games where the camera needs to be about 30cm off the ground. Though other games will require more space but no more than the Wii

Move support is going to be patched into Portal 2, alongside the In Motion levels, so I'm going to go ahead and say yes. It's the one thing I wanted when the controller launched and it's finally happening.

I'm tempted to get one (my wife wants Wonderbook) but I'm not sure where I'd put it what with the Kinect & the Wii sensor bar already taking up the obvious location.

I caved. I had a mall gift card and a coupon so I paid 15 bucks out of pocket. Grabbed a ten dollar copy of hasbro family game night 4 at the same time.

Get it cheap, and buy House of The Dead: Overkill, Dead Space: Extraction, No More Heroes, Little Big Planet 2, possibly Sorcery, and that block stacking game on PSN. I forget what it's called, but it's 10ish bucks and really good with the move. In the end you will have spent 40 bucks including the first game (Sports champions is not bad at all), on something you won't use much, but will have a handful of decent games to play with it.

It's the only way I'll play Infamous 2 and Resident Evil 5 for sure (and any console FPS that supports it). And the lightgun games are great if you like those.
I find the Move amazingly fun when a core game supports it... there's just not that much support to go around.

If you're intrigued by its use in games that are already out then go for it, but given how it hasn't set the sales charts on fire lately I wouldn't expect a huge amount of support going for it going forward.

I use it for light gun shooters. Love it. House of the Dead OK, Dead Space Extraction, and Time Crisis make the purchase worth it.

I dunno, I think the Move has some pretty great stuff coming out. Unfinished Swan, Okami HD, Bioshock Infinite, Portal 2 patch and Beyond: Two Souls. All optional but still. Pretty sure I'll pick one up soon.

Thanks again for all the info. We've picked up a second controller and two other games (start the party for my son, tiger woods for me). How much should I rush to get a navigation controller...the support seems fairly limited for it. Also some lists show hot shots golf as move enabled...can anyone confirm this and comment if it's any good?

  • Mr_GrinchMr_Grinch Registered User regular
You can use a normal dual shock instead of a navigation controller can't you? If you're comfy with that I wouldn't bother, if that becomes a chore then that's the time to pick up a navigation controller.

Yeah, Hot Shots Golf 5 supports it. They just patched it in earlier this year. I can't comment on the quality of it but I've heard nothing but good things about the game and it should be pretty cheap at this point.

Do the "light gun" games for the Move actually emulate the gameplay of light-gun era games or is it more like the Wii and you're just dragging a cursor around the screen to shoot at enemies? I'd be interested in getting a Move if its the former...

  • Capt HowdyCapt Howdy Registered User regular
You can turn off the cursor in some games. Time Crisis 4 feels like the arcade version, minus the recoil.

I had a chance last night to try the dual Move games in Sports Champions. I have to say the Move works like 100x better than my Kinect ever did in terms of accuracy and probably better than my Wiimotes as well. The archery and gladiator games are just spot on for controls and are just really fun. Volleyball was a bit odd feeling, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I tried the demo of Time Crisis and that was pretty awesome too - the House of the Dead collection on sale might be tempting.

  • vagrant_windsvagrant_winds Overworked Mysterious Eldritch Horror Hunter XX Registered User regular
That's because the Move -is- a super-advanced Wiimote that just works in reverse. Instead of the controller using infared to point at the console the PS Eye (basically a Kinect camera/microphone, both slightly better, but without its own independent software and processor which makes the Kinect better) looks for the Move controller in your hand.

Try playing Infamous 2 with it (after enabling the advanced camera/controls variation). You won't be able to go back. And yeah, the lightgun games and first/third person shooters are great with it.
