Don't bother with this game. It needs constant patching, like once a month. And if the monthly patch doesn't come then your screwed and wonder why you played so much.

No mention of Project Eternity in today's news post. Wonder if they've got an aversion to Kickstarter.

Yeah, Jerry and Mike, they sure do hate them some Kickstarter.

Yeah, Jerry and Mike, they sure do hate them some Kickstarter.

I mean in the sense that they feel the project doesn't need PA's publicity as it's already gotten plenty of coverage.

Okay. When I first read your post I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a joke.

Pretty sure he's mentioned it before, because I've heard of it and his newsposts are basically the only place I get kickstarter news from.

Naming units after friends is one of my favourite parts of strategy games. Next time I see Mike I can be all "Oh yeah man it was epic, you made your last stand at the battle of so-and-so. You killed ten men single-handedly, but Josh couldn't get to you in time."

I'm imagining a delicious 4th panel episode in which Mike and Jerry are nervously awaiting an irate phone calls from their wives.

It would be even better if it was their wives' idea.

This issue lied to me! Attacking the little horn doesn't make it collapse! It just makes it more excited and spit acidic slime!

    Serious business:

Jerry wrote the following in the news post
It has not been my experience that “women” is an incredibly useful term when it comes to knowing what people are like. Likewise, “men” hasn’t proved especially stable as a construct! So when someone purports to have discovered a mystical formula to alchemize these two cosmic forces, you need to understand that they are engaging in a terrible and ancient form of chicanery. This is not new. You do not have to incorporate profoundly toxic ideas about masculinity in order to be lovable.

It was posted on the day that the Nobel prize for economics was awarded "for the theory of stable allocations and the practice of market design". Which is used for matching best pairs, i.e. hooking people up:

This really needs a follow-up called "The Penis"

Although I shudder to think what twisted beast Mike will dream up that personifies a schlong.

The comic is pretty funny. And tycho is right that there are a lot of snake-oil peddling charlatans ever so happy to prey on the desperate and lonely. But the sad reality is that a lot of boys grow up without any kind of support structure due to absent or disinterested fathers, and a lack of brothers/close friends. There is nobody in their lives they can talk to about this stuff and they aren't insightful enough to figure it out themselves. Yet everything in society is saying that men should know exactly what to do both in initiating maintaining a relationship. And if they don't they are somehow inferior.

As dumb as the movie was the scene that struck me in American Pie was when the older brother passed on the big book of sexual wisdom. In real life the only sexual education most people get is a couple of weeks of anatomy charts mumbled over disinterested gym teachers or possibly porn. And some men are much more risk-averse than others so they choose quite, comfortable, miserable, lonely lives over the chance of rejection and humiliation. Some men just aren't built to just jump into the painful and highly rigged competition for mates. In the past those men died protecting or providing for the tribe, and the ones who came home sired the offspring. http://www.psy.fsu.edu/~baumeistertice/goodaboutmen.htm

So while the comic is funny just think about the people you know in your life. I bet you know at least one man who could really use a strategy guide and some coaching. And I bet a lot of women secretly wish men had a manual to tell them how it all worked.

I really thought with the news post Tycho was actually denigrating Dr. Nerdlove. Maybe that's not true? Anyway if he is, I wouldn't agree that it is snake oil. I don't think Dr. Nerdlove is ever trying to say all women are alike or all men are alike. Just a lot of good posts about how to have self confidence and how not to be accidentally creepy.

Yup, and you could say the same, or similar, for girls. In fact for those girls who don't fit in with a crowd it can be even worse because them dragons can be so scary vicious when they're younglings they make the boys look like slugs. That's a big part of why if you ever pass by one of those relics-of-yore called a "newsstand" you'll see rack after rack of magazines touting advice for the young lady on how to please a boy.

Like Jerry I thank the black hole that it's been a looooooong ass time since I had to worry about any of this malarky myself, but I really feel for those lost kids who have no idea where to start. There but for the grace of said black hole maybe I would have gone, and it's one of the more dangerous places to be in this world without a guide. No doubt a good deal of those resources upon which the PA cannon was trained on Monday are manifest bollocks, but like the post above me suggests, maybe one or two aren't, and maybe it would be worth separating the wheat from the snake-oil. Also, we've had the virus jokes and the sex-stops-when-you're-married jokes and the orgy jokes and the menstrual jokes but nobody has made the preggers joke yet.

    The floor is open.
