Help with Mail Server

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with some problems that I am having setting up a Mail Server. I am getting an exchange server set up in April but in the interm I am setting up a smaller email application for my company. I have the email program Set up and it is able to send mail Like no ones business, but I am unable to recieve mail. I think it is the way that I have the MX foward at godaddy set up but I am not sure. The machine that I am forced to use has Windows Vista on it. The email Program that I am using is Surgemail. And according to canyouseeme.org ports 25 and 110 are clear on the machine.

Here is the Mailer-demon result that gets bounced back to my gmail account

And Here is how I have Godaddy Records set up.

CNAMES (Aliases)
Host Points To TTL Actions
email email.secureserver.net 1 Hour
mail pop.secureserver.net 1 Hour
pop pop.secureserver.net 1 Hour
mobilemail @ 1 Hour
pda @ 1 Hour
www @ 1 Hour
smtp smtp.secureserver.net 1 Hour
ftp @ 1 Hour
webmail webmail.secureserver.net 1 Hour
e email.secureserver.net 1 Hour

MX (Mail Exchange)
Priority Host Goes To TTL Actions
0 @ mail.ascensiogroup.com 1 Hour

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rabid

Well, that initial error sounds like it's configuration of your smtpd as it's saying that the e-mail got there but the smtpd doesn't know of the user cmorrow.

The place to start is the logs for the smtpd... make sure it actually got the e-mail, looked for the user and couldn't find it, etc. That sort of stuff "should" be logged. Also, see if you can send e-mail to users locally from the server.

Thanks for the advice. I checked and I Know that the user does exist. I can send mail from that account perfectly. I checked the server and it does not show anything arriving at all. I think that has to do with DNS and MX but I guess I dont really understand how it works.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

I just tried the email test webpage that surgemail has on their website and it was able to deliver a message. But I imagine that it uses Direct IP or some other way than ascensiogroup.com . So that leads me to belive that it is something i have set up wrong on godaddy but i am unsure.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

I have never setup a mail server except for LONG ago, so I'll talk from a purely theoretical standpoint.

The mail.xxx.com domain is setup and pointing to the proper ip of the mail server? How long ago? Just because you can ping it, does not mean google can ping it yet(although unlikely.. google is well connected to the net)

do you have a 'catch-all' email adress setup (admin / postmaster, etc) .. the logs should show if the mail even go to that server ..

    How are pre-smtp25-01.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net & smtp07-02.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net setup ?

Just because you can send mail as user xxx, does not mean they have a valid mailbox.. i can send mail as pretty much anyone I want .. its all in the server setup to allow or disallow this.

What do the headers look like on mail FROM that account?

I just tried sending an e-mail from my mail server a few minutes ago so that I could look over everything from end to end. Hasn't bounced back yet and your dns is slightly different than it was when I looked at the time of my last reply... did you get it fixed?

    Thanks Everyone

I got your message Jimmy, i hadent checked it for awhile, was doing other work and i got your message and was really excited :)

Yah i changed the DNS around or it finally propogated through the net. So now I can Send and recieve email from the web interface just fine. And from outlook I can pop the server just fine. But outlook cannot send messages. Any ideas on that? The web interface works just not outlook.

    Thanks

No clue on the outlook specific stuff. I'm a Unix/Linux guy, so my knowledge and experience really stops at smtp.

What is the error message in outlook when you try and send mail? Its either ports or authentication or server address at that point

Its just a generic message: Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Cant seem to figure this one out.

I also have another problem that I have been messing with. I can connect to the machine from inside the network. I know that the problem is my modem. The ISP that we go through is qwest and whenever it resolves our IP address if you are inside the network you are taken to the modem setup page, which doesent allow you to use outlook or webmail inside of the network. Ive been messing with it and cant find a solution. Any ideas on this or outlook would be great?

    Thanks
