Custom Orthodics anyone?

ok, Penny Arcade!

I had casts made 6 weeks ago to have custom inserts made for my shoes (I have the flattest feet on the planet apparently)

Today I get them put in my shoes!

What should I expect? When I got glasses for the first time, no one told me I would practically fall asleep after wearing them for about 8 hours.

Will they hurt at first? Will I feel like running a mile?

I'll be asking the doctor this as well, but honestly, I dislike talking to him. He's a great doctor, but his table side manner lacks quite a bit.

It'll feal like walking with a marble under your arch. I got some made a few years ago, and they work but it's hard to get used to having your feet forced into a proper arch. However after a week or so you'll feel the difference.

how long do you recommend wearing them for at a time? They're the kind that you can slip in and out of your shoes.

Well I am not a medical professional of any sort, but at first I wore them for a couple of hours at a clip then when I got used to them I would wear them at work and when I had to do a lot of walking.

Most podiatrists i've been to (i've had to wear orthotics all my life and have had 4 or 5 different podiatrists) recommend starting with one hour a day, then working your way up by half hour or hour increments every day until you can wear them all the time.

I just went balls out and left them in my shoes at all times. The only downside to orthotics is that they do not fit very well in dress shoes. My general rule of thumb has been: leave 'em in when you'd be standing/walking, take 'em out for athletics.

oh god, I feel like I'm walking on air now.

I had no idea my feet hurt so much until they stopped hurting.

    thread can be closed now!

    Thanks everyone!
