Yes but there's a game with a terrible Godzilla-inspired monster and then there's a game with, you know, Godzilla. Also Ghidorah and a billion other cool guys. There wasn't really much of a choice.

My friends used to joke in school about how much I loved that series

In all seriousness, if the PS4 was announced tomorrow, and Sony said one of their launch games would be a new Legacy of Kain, I would pre-order the system and game as soon as I possibly could. No questions asked. I'd come up with the money if I had to sell organs to pay for it.

The best thing about SSX 3 is when it's like...a Sunday in the middle of winter and you're like "fuck it. This morning I'm just going to go from the top of peak 3 to the bottom of the course." and then you do that for the next half hour.

I just really hate buying games I already own, even if they're remastered in some way.

The one exception being FFIV for the DS, but only because it was probably about two decades since I played it last and they did a fucking amazing job on it.

The Ico/Sotc collection is an amazing package, there's tons of cool developer interview/behind the scenes stuff, plus footage of The Last Guardian (if that game doesn't come out i will BURN EVERYTHING D: ) but really, playing SotC with a smooth, smooth framerate is basically reason enough to get it.

I'm not a hundred per cent sure, but I think I saw Ico available for purchase separately on the PlayStation Store when I was last browsing.

I have spent so many hours playing that game with my brother. Mainly because we are The Big Gundam Nerds, but its gameplay is really satisfying, albeit simple. My brother came back from his time in Japan with one of the more recent entries in the series and it is absolutely bonkers.

I had a pretty good time with Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, which is a PS1 game and i'm a dummy.
I played Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven at a friend's house one time and it was the coolest thing my thirteen year old self had ever seen. Never got around to it after that, though. One of these days I'm gonna go on a PS2 ninja/samurai action game binge and marathon Tenchu and Onimusha and Samurai Western and Way of the Samurai and Shinobi and etc

I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise myself, but I'm fairly sure God of War 2 is one of, if not the best designed game of the last 5 or so years. The puzzles are elaborate and every fight has a new twist or a gimmick, even if it's as simple as framing that one duel in shadows, so you don't realize whom you're fighting until it's too late. Every couple of hours, there's a change in location or a meaningful upgrade in your abilities. The game just constantly keeps you on your toes.

Contrast that with God of War 3. It has superior combat, is far grander in scale, and ups the violence and shock value considerably, all of which are considered the USPs of the franchise. But it still feels like half the game that 2 is, 'cause it's level design is so by-the-numbers.

My point is, that is one heck of a swan song the PS2 had. It's just a testament to the value of good design.

they tried to get serious and it didn't really work
combat is arguably more sophisticated than the previous games though
It wasn't serious at all though? There was this whole exaggerated parody of grim and gritty games to its look in still pictures, but then everything bounced and stretched in cartoony ways and the announcers were goofy just in case you forgot what series you were playing.

As of yesterday, Odin Sphere was on sale as a PS3 download for $5 (for the U.S., no idea for other countries). I'm going to try picking it up tonight.
