Seriously, I don't know how they can excuse that border shit. Even if they can be removed (hopefully without any trouble), that's absolutely gamebreaking right there - I don't know how anyone could stand playing it when it looks like that. Pixellation and stretching is VASTLY preferrable in my opinion.

If you're gonna make it widescreen, at least have the decency to use black borders, so it looks like a movie or something. This is Super Gameboy right here.

HD = higher resolution. they like to run the game at the original res.

most if not all these games with borders, you never see the border on SDTVs.

One of the most highly regarded PlayStation games ever made has a date with the Xbox 360. Microsoft today announced that Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of GameSpot's Greatest Games of All Time, will debut on Xbox Live Arcade this coming Wednesday at 2 a.m. PDT.

As the first title to be brought over to Live Arcade from another console, Symphony of the Night will feature "modernized" sound, widescreen support, achievements, and leaderboards. Players will be able to choose between the original graphics or altered visuals that address sprite pixelation when the game is played in high definition.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is rated T for Teen and will be available for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

    Best XBLA month ever?

Until they decide not to release it in Germany, because its not rated there - still waiting for engaging in the 4 Player action of Turtles Arcade. (if SOTN never came out on the PS1 for this shithole of a country - its most likley the case - then it hasn't been rated). Damn I am not even living there and still have to deal with "omg killa games" bullshit. Fake accounts ahoy! (We didn't even get the Crackdown demo. Think Canadians getting fucked? - try creating a german XBox Live Account then)

Secondly, the german law isn't as unforgiving regarding violence in videogames. In most cases the companies are precensoring the content - basically sawing a leg or an arm of because of a little bruise. So I have to play Alien Hominid HD in "Flower Power modus" without blood. (not that it makes the game bad)

Something which annoys me: Why can't I just verify somehow that I am like over 20 years old. (Entering CreditcardNr, sending copy of ID, whatever - Getting the "bloody content" is not illegal - you can buy everything you want if you are over 18 in "sausage land") Personally I don't understand that every XBox Live Account is treated as if 6 year old is using it. Its the same with Steam - you can literally feel you are not in control of the content you buy on "the virtual market places/distribution systems" - and we have to buy it at the same price as everybody else just to get a "gimped version".

Ok, rant off - sorry i had to get this off my chest. Please ignore me and continue.

I wonder how large of a download SOTN will be. I believe this will be the first game to use the new size(s). With all these games coming out on live this month, I need to drop some money into points and buy them already.

I'm not sure that wouldn't just look unforgivably ugly, depending on the resolution.

Or they could redraw every single sprite in high resolution. And maybe add a new protagonist. Possibly throw in a few new bosses. Redesign the castle. Add a better magic system. Incorporate entirely new music.

    Oh wait.

what extras did the Saturn have? Was it like a bigger castle, or just bonuses like extra characters and stuff?

    * A few new weapons/items/armor for Alucard's game.
    * A new sprite for Richter is featured in addition to the old one, based on Ayami Kojima's depiction of the character. This is the sprite Richter uses when he fights Alucard in the Saturn version and can be used as a playable character as well.
    * There are 2 areas of the castle (Cursed Prison and Underground Garden) which were not in the PS1 version. The Underground Garden area features a new boss, the Skeleton King.
    * Also, when playing as Maria or Richter, certain areas of the castle play remixes of classic Castlevania music, such as "Vampire Killer" and "Bloody Tears".

I don't understand why people are always clamoring for this shit. IGA said it wasn't up to snuff in a recent GDC interview, and he's right, because it sucks.

Maria gets boring to play as after a while, because like Richter, she doesn't level up or get items. The new Richter sprite is cool, but since he's boring as sin to play as, who cares? The new areas are completely forgettable. One of them is essentially a long hallway filled with obnoxious enemies. The only good thing about the Cursed Prison is that it conveniently connects the Marble Gallery and the underground place.

The only thing I really liked in the Saturn version was the Alucard Spear.

I usually just lurk these forums, for topics that interest me, but never post. This is the exception.

I currently don't have enough points available, so I tried to purchase around 600 (for $12 or so) through XBL. I enter all my CC info correctly, have plenty of plenty of available credit, but I keep getting an error saying that it won't allow me to purchase it. I called the bank and confirmed that it could be approved and everything. Anyone else having this problem? I really want to play this game.

And, this has already been the greatest month (for me and my tastes, anyways) for XBLA. Double Dragon next week would just make it seemingly unsurpassable.
