Just played through the Bloodlines stage and a small portion of the main game. What I can tell you right now is that you'll want to turn on the graphic enhancements shortly after you begin. The game runs at a low and inconsistent resolution otherwise, with some pixels being wider and taller than others. I guess it's just the curse of owning a high-definition display...
Other than that, the game feels mushy with a wireless gamepad but is otherwise the same as it was on the Playstation. Same graphics, same sound effects, same gameplay. The X, O, Tri, and Square buttons in the menu screen have been replaced with the Xbox 360's more colorful keys, and you have to access the map and equipment screens with different buttons, but those are the only differences I've noticed.
Walked home during my lunch and played enough to get the achievments for bloodlines, first boss and some other small ones.
All i can say is, the rest of my day at work will be the longest ever...
Good thing I haven't played the original for some time, makes it even more enjoyable.
I'm only downloading the Trial game right now, as I've never played... ANY Castlevania game. But with as much excitement as has been built up about it here, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it.
Also, that guy with the CC problems: yeah it happens, and it sucks when it does. Just keep trying.
So I download this game and buy the full version before going off to substitute teach this morning. Turns out that there was an error with the substitute system today and they double booked two subs for the class I was supposed to substitue for. End result? I get paid for a day of work & get to stay home and play Castlevania all day.
So I need you guys to convince me that it's worth getting this version rather than waiting for the PSP one.
For what it's worth, this version has the original, crappy dialog and VA. The PSP version is getting re-done with new VAs and dialog. And for $10, I'd say get the best of both worlds (and be a consumer whore, to boot).

I tried playing SotN on the PSP (popstation), but the screen is a bit too dark (possibly they'll brighten up the actual port), and the ghosting is very apparent. I went back to playing it on the playstation (which is what you should be playing it on because the 360 dpad isn't so hot) and was able to actually enjoy the great graphics.

If you're not scared of disassembling your 360 controller, you can sand out the well that the dpad sits in, and it keeps it from contacting the sides, which is what prevents some inputs from registering. Alternatively, I heard someone put some kind of thick tape on the bottom of the dpad so that it contacts the internal dpad "buttons" early, before the dpad itself touches the side. I haven't tried that one, but I'm sure you could google for it.

Maybe it's worth pointing out that the first fight against Dracula is just a prologue and, while you probably can't lose, the stats you begin with once you start the game in earnest will be determined by your performance in the introduction.

That kind of confused me too, when I first began.
I can see how that part is confusing, but in the old days, it would make less sense if the weak spot wasn't the head or big glowing thing.

Not to mention this one has Achievements
If there is an achievement titled "You must whip it" or "Ghostride the whip" I'm buying an Xbox 360 today.

honest to god, there is a ghost ride the whip mini game and achievement for the "pimp my ride" game.
I've never played this. I've never played any Castlevania game for longer than a few minutes. I hear it is kinda like metroid, is that true? Either way, me and my coworker will be splitting the cost of this and I will be experiencing it for the first time.*

*I have listened to the music a ton though.
Like metroid with RPG-style stats and weapons, but yea, basically.
Shit, I forgot about the PSP's ghosting. As long as the game itself is intact, though, I don't really see the advantage of the XBLA version, especially since I've never played Castlevania and would quite like to go through the two in chronological order.

so i'm still on the fence about the full version, so i decide to look up some reviews to see whats up with it....
I got to play a little on my lunch break, and naturally I fucked up the Dracula fight like I always do.
It looks nice though, and I prefer the filtered setting (I'm playing with my 360 set at 1080i on my 56" screen for what it's worth), I checked the regular, and it's just a little too pixelated for my liking.
Control seems ok...not great, but ok. Music and sound are good, and the game is as fun as I remember it being.
Now if only other XBLA releases had been a little more robust (Worms, I'm looking right the fuck at you)

some of my favorite quotes include
"The voice acting is also good, and the storyline is awesome."
and the whole last paragraph
"Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is easily one of the best games ever released and a true testament to the fact that 2D gaming is not dead by any stretch of the imagination. The game is very large and will keep you entertained for a long time."
how randomly they threw in the how large the game was there.

Edit: Ok, why would Dracula be weak in the head? It makes no damn sense!
Edit2: ..... WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? You know what, nevermind. I gotta get ready for class. I'll figure this shit out later.

In other news, how big is this download?
Like, 96 megs. Around there.
Your first system was neither of the 8 or 16 bit varieties I take it.

Nope, according to this random site that Google gave me, they decided to be less exciting with the acheivement names: http://www.360-gamer.com/achievements.asp?id=186

Now I have to choose between playing this and GoW2 when I get home
I am a freaking nerd.
i looked at the controls, can i turn my dude into a wolf/bat/ i forget the 3rd creature at some point in the game?
if so that might convince me to spend some points on it.
