Yeah in general you can potentially cause it to freeze by doing that. Basically don't go to the status screen while anything freeze or load-like is happening (changing areas, cutscene text block just starts to fade in, etc.).

Oh yeah, how exactly do you level up? (kill things, olol!) Once you level up can you adjust your stats or is it just leveling up and not getting to choose your attack and all that, cause I couldn't see anything to level up once I went up a level.

2) All the music was redbook on SOTN... now its probably mp3/wma. The size differential makes sense.
I was listening to 1up's Retronaunts Podcast about Castlevania and they mentioned the music is actually done in the Playstation sound chip. Which is incredible considering the PS1's sound chip wasn't that great and when you compare it to something like FF7's music.
So, now that the best Metroidvania ever (and, in my humble little opinion, the best game ever period) has been released in a format that might see some success, maybe IGA and his team will put some real effort into a handheld Castlevania for once. I'm so sick of playing the same game over and over again, with each game feeling a little more contrived than the last.
Thanks guys. I'm amazed how difficult it was to find anything about this on Microsoft's support page...
But to bring the conversation back to SOTN... I just spent $25 on my first ever Marketplace Points, and damn, were they well spent. Having only played more recent Castlevanias, I can see now why everyone calls this the best. Because it is. Plain and simple.

I actually bought the game three times. Once when it came out, once from a friend when my old copy disappeared (and it isn't the player's choice or anything), and now on XBL. I've beaten it like six or seven times, and I'm still having the time of my life.

I think I've definitely found something to keep my occupied this Spring Break.
I've been playing Portrait of Ruin, and bought SOTN because I was enjoying PoR thoroughly; it is just as awesome as I had hoped, and more. Now I just need to get my hands on the OST....
Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.
I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.
Just started playing this. Certainly a step up in difficulty from Dawn of Sorrow, which I appreciate. I like earning my victories in a Castlevania.
Think so? Because, from my experience, Symphony of the Night gets pathetically easy really fast. Maybe you just haven't gotten to that point yet.
Yeah, I'm surprised at how many people seem to be having trouble with it. Symphony of the Night is better than the others in nearly every way, but it's not harder.

I dunno, maybe I just don't remember the difficulty of DoS and feel that it was a little easier than this. It's not that the game is overwhelmingly hard, it's just it seems to be difficult enough that it's not a cakewalk, but not so difficult that I get really frustrated.
The game's dificulty quickly chills out once you get Soul steal, and the good gear. That can be pretty quick if you know what you're doing. There are a few difficult fights, however, even with the good gear.

Actually, SotN on the PSX has streaming XA music, while FF7 uses real-time MIDI.
I'm not much of a video game music fan but I've been listening to this soundtrack on my MP3 at work regularly for a week. It really is something special and one of few soundtracks that I feel compelled to listen to independently of the game.
Usually the game gets 'easy' for me because of over-leveling. I usually don't go out and try and level up (at least not until I've done pretty much everything else) but if you like to explore alot, you generally are going to find the game pretty easy.
Not having an original Playstation (and not being much of a PC gamer) I missed out on the early days of voice acting. It's a treat to hear memorable spoken dialogue like:
"Young master, I cannot support you going against the Master."
Hey, so I'm a little stuck and I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction.
After hours of going back and forth, I finally found the telescope room. The cutscene played but now I have no idea where to go. It seems like I've gone everywhere. I managed to nab wolf form, but I can't seem to find any place where it could be put to good use.

I AM HELPING!
Wolf is pretty useless. You can use it to move quickly through areas as you level up.
You passed a door to the library climbing the east tower area. It's to the left in the center of the tower area. Go there, because there's a store there that will let you buy the Jewel of Open. It opens the two glowing blue doors. You can also buy a precious (but incomplete) map.

Hah! I never even checked to see what the merchant was selling. I just assumed it was optional stuff and went on my way (since I'm going for the Bank Achievement). Thank you for the tip though.
And when does the wolf form become fast? Because right now it's slow as molasses.

Double tap to run, you build up momentum the further you go without getting hit/changing which way you're facing. Later on you get an ability wherein a QCF+attack motion will let you immediately dash forward until you hit a wall.

Trying to enter the status screen just after levelling up usually freezes the game.
Just thought I would throw that out there.
Satans..... hints.....
Your stats and all that increase automatically.

You mess with the dolphin, you get the nose.

Basically, my controller is doing this, where a, b, c, and d are the top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right quadrants, respectively.
color=green]a[/color[ ] [ ]color=green]ba[/color[ ] [ ]color=green]b[/color
[ ]color=green]dc[/color[ ] [ ]color=green]dc[/color[ ] (endless loop)
With a green light. What does this mean? My controller still works, but this constant alternating flashing is driving me nuts.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
Low batteries, I believe. Press the Guide Button and look at the top of the screen.

Use the Library card, or go the same way you came in
EDIT: Rats.
Hey alright, it worked.

I am a freaking nerd.
I always thought they were "Metroidvanias."
That said;
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
I've never heard of anyone say "Castleroids." Always "Metroidvania."
There's an item called the Moonstone that is "stronger after sunset." But how do you know when sunset is?
Status screen has a place for the time.
"Young master, I cannot support you going against the Master."
The "MOTHER!!!!" scream and the way she reads, "Darling, you're a vampire?"
It's ridiculously and very unintentionally funny.
But, instead, it's glorious.
"darkling I smell you're blood"
they actually fixed that for the XBLA rerelease.
Holy Water Crash 4tw!
Thanks.
