I'm kind of disappointed that I managed to miss the Mad King's appearance. Somehow I had no idea that there was a one-off event. Maybe I should have seen something, but I don't think that was communicated clearly enough.
This is all you missed, and when I saw it the mad king popping out of the hole was not there... didnt see him until i watched the youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omc1PwSxnRw
Yeah it is a minor thing of course, but really, if they are going to do one-off things, everyone should be aware of it ahead of time. Apparently they talked about it on Facebook/Twitter? What about people who don't use those?
I am 90% sure the event was mentioned in the screen that pops up right after you log in.
I just got back from a two week vacation. I gather theres a halloween event going on - where is this immediately infamous tower to climb?
You're going to want to go out into either Queensdale, Kessex Hills, or Gendarren. One of them will have the map FILLED with pumpkin icons. Go to one, hop into the door... bam, you're in the Mad Realm! Speak with the NPC beside the waypoint to be taken to the clocktower.

And wow. Not sure why anyone thought replicating what is widely acknowledged as the worst part of Psychonauts was a good idea!

The worst part is the games controls are terrible for platforming. It works decently enough for normal jumping puzzles and vistas and stuff, but something like this just controls terribly.

This is an exaggeration, or a reflection of your control set up rather than the game in general. I find it controls just fine. Not as well as a dedicated platforming game, obviously, but well enough.
While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.
the only real control problem comes if you have your camera offcentered to the right where it will run into the tower so you need to center or left align your camera.
Clocktower is not *that* bad. Watch a video of the route you're supposed to take and practice until you can get the first third or so down reliably. The latter 2/3 of the puzzle is actually very simple. If you can make it to the spot where you have to jump onto that thin plank and then do a 180 and jump onto the rocks at the bottom of the stairs, the rest is a breeze.
Also 95% of the pack will always die within about 5 jumps after the explosion.
Well, I hit the first major think I hate about GW2. The karma vendor system in Orr is hopeless broken, bots everywhere, and no way to get the armor you've earned because the NPC won't spawn unless the Temple is under allied control. For me, it was stuck at Tactician Footi with botters everywhere. Apparently it's like this on most servers.
This could all have been avoided by having the merchant be an NPC like the Dungeon venders in LA. You still have to work for the karma, be the right level, and have the skill to play the game, but none of it is dependent on jerkass people breaking the game because it suits.
You have to approach game design with GIFT in mind. Anet has done a good job in most areas, but this is still broken.
That last part of the ghost scanning quest is pretty much impossible if you are low level. Still, I got lots of exp just running like a maniac all over Kryta. I was pretty impressed with the new sights. I like how giant boss monsters pop up all over the place.

If you do it during primetime it isn't that bad. I got the book on a fresh alt at level 4. A little patience and some friendly strangers is all it took.
It's not really a true one off event either. The cinematic was a one off event, but once I got done in the dungeon and back to LA I saw the Mad King pop out of the hole again live. It was the exact same thing as the cinematic but not as a cinematic. I assume that they are just going to have him periodically pop out of the hole, go RAARRArrRRR and then disappear again until the event is over?
Yeah, (luckily) people (including me) didn't really miss anything. Other than being able to say first! I suppose.

Yep, exactly. While it was cool to be there to watch it happen I don't really feel like I would have missed anything had I not been there.

Well, we broke the game, apparently. I still had a blast running the Mad King dungeon thingy, even though my guardian's only in his 50's. No good loot on the two runs I went on, but it was fun.
After hearing so much about how tough dungeons are, I was a little scared to try (I haven't worked up the courage to try any of the regular dungeons yet) but it was not bad. Having 3 of us getting feared off the bottom island thingy was pretty funny.
While I heartily encourage you to try the other dungeons, just be aware the Mad King is nowhere indicative of how the other dungeons play, explorable mode in particular.
Yeah that Mad King dungeon is pretty easy, which is good for a holiday event I think. I think the trickiest parts are the jumps, and figuring out what the heck is going on at first, but it's pretty simple overall.
I had such a good time on my Elementalist over the weekend. He's level 29 now, and I consider him my new main character. I started Friday with him at level 12. Since then he's gained 17 levels, got master carver, and is otherwise only missing 'attend the party' to have all the halloween cheeves. I did the clock tower with him and had a blast. Did the mad king last night a few times, very fun. Did a bunch of wvw and found D/D to be very viable in wvw even in lowlevel gear. So I can't wait to get to level 80 and get some exotics. It's weekends like this one that make the week go by extra slow.

Yep. I've pretty much switched mains at this point over to my engineer. Elixir gun is great in parties and I have so much fun with the versatility in general of the class.

I've come to enjoy the elixir gun. Thinking about rolling an elixir gun heal/support build for some dungeon running.

Elixer gun is borderline OP for tankiness.
Literally if you take 10 in tools, the trait to create a spell on kit equip and add elixer gun to your bar you have an obscene amount of survivability now added to ANY build. And if you build for healing than you almost become an actual tank.
The bomb defensive build definately turns on easy mode for dungeons. Its just so boring because you walk up to guys, and just sit an auto attack while dropping a few other abilities to counteract brief increases in damage intake.
I've done some crazy stuff with a combination of the bomb kit and elixir gun.
When soloing I keep the elixir gun around solely so I can swap into it to use 4 to hop back and then drop a 5 (super elixir) where I land when I get into trouble.
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

1) Your first time, you get the 10 slot bag and a big reward. Subsequent times, no matter which character you do it on, you only get some ToT bags and some halloween crafting mats.
2) I've run it on 3 characters so far, and all can open the chest for sweet rewards.
Unknown:
1) Does running it on the same character more then once still let you open the chest and get stuff?
I agree with points 1 and 2. The same character can open the chest multiple times, but it seems to me the rewards get exponentially less good each time you do it.
First time: 10 ToT bags and an exotic in the chest. 2nd: 5 ToT bags and a bunch of greens in the chest. 3rd time, 3 ToT bags and one green and two whites in the chest.
Also you do not get the exp/karma for doing it a second time, even if you switch to a completely different character.
Now, clocktower: can you do it once per day once per char? Are there any rewards for doing it more often?
How about the exotic dropping chests in the labyrinth? When it first came out you could open the chest every time it spawned (every 20 minutes) and now I hear (but haven't verified) that you can open it once per char per day. Bear in mind there are two champions however.
Anybody lower level tried running MK dungeon as an XP farm?
I'd like to get my alts up over 30 so I don't feel bad bringing them into wuvs/thiefs are awesome and I'd like mine to be 80.

Well in advance- this Friday change over wvwvw is on this week.
We have added a new Friday WvWvW channel that is separate from the regular WvWvW so that we don't have to keep taking priority speaker off and on the regular channel- which is nice.
To the new folks- If you have not hopped into WvWvW yet this is an excellent week to try as we are rolling them. TS3 even if you only listen with no mic is very very good times.
Since @anon kinda stalled on the summit due to moving on gaming wise- our 'dear friends' at Gods have launched one. So far it is functional with a few large guilds participating... they ran an event Saturday night, large turnout did pretty well. I ran a hit squad with some PA folks during it. So theres that.
Chief Wiggum: "Ladies, please. All our founding fathers, astronauts, and World Series heroes have been either drunk or on cocaine."
So for the PVP style events going on, what the hell do you get for rewards?
For the hide and seek one, it's 5 trick or treat bags if your team wins, 3 if they lose.
Which makes me feel like a dick for hiding the full 13 minutes, being the only survivor, and forcing everyone else to waste way more time to get their 3 bags just so I can get +2.

You only get completion exp the first time you run it. After that, while low levels are perfectly able to complete the dungeon, they only get exp from killing the monsters.
Sadly I did the dungeon the first time on my 80. I will try it again today for first time on an alt and report back my findings. I wouldn't mind if it gave me a level
I had two log-in attempts from two cities in China. Its strange because I only use the password for GW.. It makes me think that they were compromised and thats why that message popped up "You should change your password" --which is now changed to something even more as ridiculous as it was before...Being that it was already a complex password with 36 bits of entropy the only way they could have used it is by grabbing it somehow..

This sums up my weekend too! Coming into the weekend I was like level 10. By last night I was level 25, all by focusing on dailies, the monthly and Halloween. I wish I got to wuv a little longer on Saturday night and I still need 29 kills, but it was a fun and productive weekend. All this and I still haven't even completed Queensdale

It was at 3 am my time, it kinda sucks that I missed it, oh well. NBD.
Traditionally you are not missing any one-off rewards or opportunities; if you were, the event would probably run hourly all day like they did in GW1.

if I didn't have to do it with 15 other people. It makes it impossible to see what is going on, especially as an asura. All I see are people's backs.
