Thief sounds fun bit I'm having fun with Guardian too. DECISIONS!!! My wife's running mesmer with me as we level so I guess that's a thing too. Whats a good secondary weapon to greatsword guardians or thief dual daggers?
Shortbow is a pretty good all-around secondary weapon for thief. It provides consistent AoE and allows you to use an explosive combo finisher. Plus, broadly speaking, it is useful to have a ranged option.
I doubt I'll be able to join that fractals group- only level 39 so I won't be that effective in higher difficulties. But I'd love to join any other groups forming. I think Maika's at level 3.
That being said- if anyone has any comments about how I played this weekend, I'd love to hear them. Even if it is "You suck at being a mesmer!" ^^;
In other news, I'm also running around the starter areas just to get map completion and bump my level up some. So if anyone needs a buddy let me know. Currently in Wayfarer Hills, and next stop will be Plains of Ashford.
Also, you're not responding to Fract til You're Raw by PM if you are srsbsns about doing it. I'm going to get PM conversations going to help form the team.
I am off at 2 pm Wednesday now, so I'm in but I can't figure out how to send PMs from the mobile siiite.
Well it sounds more like Rysk wants you to quote him, not send him a PM.
My mace/focus-hammer guardian, built for survivability and stacking healing power has been soloing champions since about lv25. Make of that what you will.
Levelling in Lornar's pass is so ronery...
Yeah, when I realized it was basically impossible to die unless I fell asleep with mace / focus going on, I committed to Guardian. Necro's way busier for the same results. Fortunately for my Necro the Guardian's 80 now and map completion is dull.
I switched to hammer because I found mace/focus or shield to be TOO survivable...
Are Engineers very good at PvE and Dungeons? All the builds I see appear to be PvP builds.
For PvE exploration, you can easily maintain more than 100% swiftness uptime with 10 points into the class traitline, and you have rifle jump, which is stupidly useful for jumping puzzles. Grenade kits allow you to tag enemies in moderately large PvE zergs, but the projectile flight time becomes an issue if the zerg is instagibbing enemies.
Everybody seems to have a different dungeon build. Personally, I use tool kit, grenade, elixir r, and rifle, which gives modest, but consistent damage output in close, mid, and long ranges, single target or multiple targets, moving or stationary. You also get a stun break, an AoE revive (which you can use on yourself if you know you're about to go down) a 3 second block and a (recently buffed) pull. I know people who do well with elixir builds, but I do appreciate having some answer for just about any situation

Yep. ~ is magical that way. You can run around with your hammer and have the security of a smaller weighted stick and a skull with some feathers stuck on it just in case you get in over your head.

This is how I play, certainly.
It's still funny to take on whole hordes of enemies at once solo and simply out-heal all the damage.

So as a note, I was talking to a friend regarding methods of getting exotic lv 80 armor. Pricing out a crafted set on the vendor will vary, but here's the example of a full set of exotic armor, assuming you have to buy everything from the TP.
You need 96 gossamer scraps (3.36 gold), 12 hardened leather scraps (6.6 silver), 30 ectos (7.2 gold), 30 blues (3-20 silver each, 90 silver to 6 gold), 130 gossamer thread (83 silver). The estimated cost, if everything has to be bought on the TP respectively is in parenthesis. Thus, the total cost ranges from roughly 12 to 18 gold.
Exotic medium armor would cost around 10.5 to 16.5 gold (24 less gossamer scraps, 24 more hardened leather scraps).
Exotic heavy armor would take 32 orichalcum ore (80s), 74 gossamer scraps (2.6 gold), 30 ectos (7.2 gold), 30 blues (3-20 silver each, 90 silver to 6 gold), 130 gossamer thread (83 silver). Estimated total would be around 10.5 to 16.5 gold.
I might recommend folks consider saving up karma for armor (252k karma to get a full set). If you have a karma booster and you find a karma banner (+55% karma gain), 37 jugs of karma would get you this full set. You get 1 jug per daily you finish and 10 for each monthly you finish. If you don't have a karma booster, can't find a karma banner, but the guild is running the 15% karma boost, it would take 49 jugs of karma to get this. (As a side note, I do not believe the karma boosters and guild karma bonus stack. This weekend, I was only getting the 6950 (+55%) from each jug after I found a banner and used a booster, however, I might've been in an overflow, which might also be an issue).

If I'm up to Fractal Level 6 by Wednesday, I'll go. Hopefully we get enough for multiple groups. Uh... in the words of Punch. I bring Axe, I spin like Tasmanian Devil?

Thank you for doing the math so I know when to stop stockpiling jugs.
As of last night, at least, the lesser-known named exotics are reasonably priced, due to people dumping them after the lost shores finale. Go on the trading post, search for level 80 exotics, sort low to high, and find a set you want. I ended up buying a set of Zhed's armor last night for my mesmer, which is a beserker's set with runes of the centaur (permaswiftness, finally). It ended up being cheaper than a crafted beserker's set, not even including the runes.
Also, rare back pieces are really cheap. Search for "spineguard", and you can find some for 5 silver or so
i've spent time leveling on ranger, necro, engineer, thief, and warrior. why is warrior so much stronger in every way possible then the other 4. he does more damage, and survives way better.
also, i got about 0 time this weekend to participate in events or fractals, so i'll have to try and get on that this week, or something. unfortunately, ranger is the only class i have at 80, and i don't really want to run dungeons on him. i've bee going back and forth form necro (37) to warrior (16), but i think i'll focus on warrior, they do hella damage, provide great group utility with banners and shouts, have higher survivability than pretty much everyone else. why wouldn't everyone play a warrior?
also, after guild wars 1, why couldn't ANet do the ranger right? they only had like, 7 years of experience with it.

I get 7650 from each jug with booster, banner and guild boost.

At difficulty 10, you start getting a daily chest reward for just doing 1 fractal (or set of 3... not sure).
I don't see where it says that but maybe I missed something. I see it saying that there is always a daily chest reward for killing jade maw, the contents of which changes based on the tier.

I think this suggests I was in an overflow somewhere. I highly recommend when you drink the jugs, don't do it in an overflow.
My math above also considers you to have 0 karma, btw. Jugs give 4500 normally, but at least use them with the guild karma bonus. I highly recommend you spend the ~1 gold to get the karma booster from the gem store. It'll make a nice difference with how many jugs you need to get yourself a full set.
Alternatively, 1200 dungeon tokens will get you a full set of dungeon armor (exotic) according to the wiki. This means if you could only run 1 dungeon path a day, which nets you 60 tokens, you could have a full set in 20 days.

Oh, the part about getting ascended rings starts at tier 2 from the daily chest. I said that wrong... you do get a chest no matter what difficulty when you kill the maw dude.

Right, and the chest requires 6 fractals, not 1 or 3!
I'd really like to get a thorough State of Game update from ANet regarding their first few months of being live, and what they've learned in that time.
Among the things topics I'd be intrigued to hear about:
They had a dependence on cutscenes during story sequences because they wanted to make sure players heard important information. From my own perspective, this often ended up breaking immersion and urgency instead. The direction the voice actors were given often contributed to this disconnect from the events at hand, as well. Have they sat back and evaluated how they want to tell stories in the future?
What have they learned about the current limitations of the game engine when designing small group and large scale events? What plans to they have going forward?
What effects have the content consumption rate of their players had on their overall vision for the game?
What effects have some of the higher profile issues in their content releases had on their testing processes?
And smaller topics:
Is the home instance of each character considered feature complete? If content was cut to make launch, what else can we expect to help tie back a character to their accomplishments?
Has the reception of the Fractals dungeon caused them to look back at the release dungeons and evaluate how they can bring those encounters in line with the gameplay FotM introduced?

Someone should post on reddit that he should correct that. Cause now that I think, the chest is only after the maw guy, which is only after 6 total in a row. Unless you actually get something else after difficulty 9... which I doubt.

The reddit seemed to be worded correctly to me. I'm not seeing where it says otherwise.
For all you pros, I'm looking at (eventually) getting the Nightmare set from Twilight Arbor for Maika.
What level can I reasonably expect to start running TA to get the tokens? And is there a lockout/cooldown period after finishing the dungeon? I'm also guessing that each dungeon has its own tokens (or are they just simply "dungeon tokens" and can be earned anywhere?).
Huh, I just noticed the snow on my avatar. Neat, PA Forums.

You get 60 tokens for the first daily run of EACH PATH. So if you ran all three in 1 day you can get 180. Daily resets at 7PM EST right now. You can make runs after that point but with reduced reward. I think the first repeat gets you 30? You can TA EX at 55.
EDIT: And yes each Dungeon has it's own unique tokens.

When is the may guy supposed to spawn? I assumed every even numbered tier since we got him at the end of T2. We didn't do 6 fractals in the same group, it was 2 nights. OK I'm confused...

This doesnt factor in the whole karma gear having only 3 stat choices and being unable to get a full set of any of those problem.
Its significantly worse to only have 4-5 pieces of stats you need and 1-2 bs ones than it is to be in 6 pieces of rares that you actually need.
I am going to go for as much Solider as I can from Karma and the rest from Dungeon tokens. I am getting the set for my current build by farming. Its apothecary.
Unfortunately you need 20 shells per insignia and they are 1.3s ish currently. So 120 of those total for like 1.5g. Which isnt too bad looking at some of the options there.
Now that ori tanked light armor is the most expensive. That sucks donkey balls.
Rysk is planning an event of epic proportions for Wednesday. It will test your fortitude, stamina, and most of all, ability to cry miserably at our inevitable defeats.
Indicate your willingness to participate here for Frac til You're Raw. We will begin running Fractals around 5pm PST and run them until ???. The ??? should be somewhere in the vicinity of 1 or 2am PST.
In order to join such an insane undertaking you must:
1) Be at least difficulty scale 6 (unless I manage to get to 11 before then)
2) Be level 80 and be well geared (flexible on gear)
3) Be good at this game
3 is subjective, but I'm judging you. You don't have to be Punchdance good, just like, don't stand in the fire good.
Indicate your will is available to be broken by PMing me and I will start merging PMs to form our group. I would like a good spread of classes for better utility, but Fractals are kind of subjective for that need I think. Unless dredge. Then OH FUCK.
I might be around for something like this, but I want to ask honest advice since I didn't play my mesmer much until fractals. I ran with you, badwrong and maribelle plus a random this weekend (Berit). How'd I do?
You did well, I'd be glad to have you along.
@Arthil - the entry point is not that high. I got to scale 6 on two runs of two sets (6 total fractals). That's maybe a 3 hour investment and you have 2 days to get there.
Yeah this is probably an American only thing, it's a holiday thing and I just realized my entire Fracting weekend is tied up so this is my chance. But why would you want to jump into family festivities on a healthy brain. Better to do it sleep deprived and hopped up on sugar/caffeine. Also if you're Canadian just call in sick the next day.
Huh? As I understand the level thing, you have to do a full run at each level to unlock the next one. Which means getting to level 6 means doing fractals 5 times, minimum.
While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.
Keep in mind that most groups only run the up, and forward->up paths. Waypoints stop appearing about 15% of the way through the dungeon, and forward->forward has a tricky fight near the end, making it less popular.
I haven't seen the new rewards, but I haven't found running the same path twice a day to be worthwhile

That's correct. To get to level 6, you have to run a set of fractals 5 times, which would be 3 x 5 = 15 fractals total. Then of course, you account for running the two extra boss fractals at difficulty 2 and 4. So you have 17 individual fractals total to get to rank 6, or 5 runs. That would take longer than 3 hours. Probably closer to 5 hours imo, and only with a very good group.

Can someone recommend a leveling build for necromancer? That's the only class at this point that hasn't clicked for me.
so, i'm looking at gear for my ranger, and i'm thinking of going with the rabid gear from karma vendors, thoughs? i would compliment this with the power/vit/CD trinkets and then upgrades to improve whatever stats i think it needs.
i change my mind about this stuff a lot, but bleeding is about the only thing a ranger really does well-ish. that and evading.
edit: for anyone who runs dungeons, how reliably can you flank for shortbow attacks?
I'm intending to try and do a Fract run tonight (less hardcore) to include folks who want to go and increase their level for the Wednesday deal.
I will say that I have already committed to a second warrior in the Wednesday group, which means I'm going to be hesitant to add a 3rd since it really limits our utility.

Scepter/dagger conditions. Stack precision and condition damage/duration, cripple and bleed all the things then Epidemic it across groups. Use corruption utilities and Consume Conditions.

Shortbow is a pretty good all-around secondary weapon for thief. It provides consistent AoE and allows you to use an explosive combo finisher. Plus, broadly speaking, it is useful to have a ranged option.

That being said- if anyone has any comments about how I played this weekend, I'd love to hear them. Even if it is "You suck at being a mesmer!" ^^;
In other news, I'm also running around the starter areas just to get map completion and bump my level up some. So if anyone needs a buddy let me know. Currently in Wayfarer Hills, and next stop will be Plains of Ashford.
Well it sounds more like Rysk wants you to quote him, not send him a PM.
I think they are Well Adjusted, Nice, Kind, Earnest, Respectable and Sweet!
I switched to hammer because I found mace/focus or shield to be TOO survivable...
I come wednesday. I bring hammer. I smash things.
Need 2280 fractal shards to buy obsidian shards.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At difficulty 10, you start getting a daily chest reward for just doing 1 fractal (or set of 3... not sure).
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I get 7650 from each jug with booster, banner and guild boost.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Right, and the chest requires 6 fractals, not 1 or 3!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The reddit seemed to be worded correctly to me. I'm not seeing where it says otherwise.
Also check if Buffie is online when you are looking to run. She is shooting for that set as well.
Huh? As I understand the level thing, you have to do a full run at each level to unlock the next one. Which means getting to level 6 means doing fractals 5 times, minimum.
I haven't seen the new rewards, but I haven't found running the same path twice a day to be worthwhile

I'd be up for some Arah for sure.
I'd probably be down for one of those. I'll probably be on around 8 PM CST (give or take).

Thanks. Maika's only 39 so it'll be a while before she gets to that point.
Can someone recommend a leveling build for necromancer? That's the only class at this point that hasn't clicked for me.
i change my mind about this stuff a lot, but bleeding is about the only thing a ranger really does well-ish. that and evading.
edit: for anyone who runs dungeons, how reliably can you flank for shortbow attacks?
I will say that I have already committed to a second warrior in the Wednesday group, which means I'm going to be hesitant to add a 3rd since it really limits our utility.
Scepter/dagger conditions. Stack precision and condition damage/duration, cripple and bleed all the things then Epidemic it across groups. Use corruption utilities and Consume Conditions.
