I am bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad.

So this opens up in theaters next Friday (November 2)

Being the 52nd full-length animated feature film from Disney, Wreck-It Ralph is the story of, well, Wreck-It Ralph, the villain of an 8-bit-style arcade game that constantly wrecks buildings while the player character, Fix-It Felix, Jr., is charged with keeping the building standing and eventually toppling Ralph. Think of the original Donkey Kong, told from Donkey Kong's perspective.

Sick of decades of the repetitive nature of his work with seemingly no gratitude, Ralph enters other games in a search for a place where he can be the appreciated hero, eventually landing in a light-gun game called Hero's Duty (an obvious send-up of grittier, more realistic modern war games) and a kart-racing game called Sugar Rush (what looks like an odd mix between Candy Land and Crash Team Racing and totally not Mario Kart). During his game-hopping, it comes to light that Ralph may have caused a glitch that threatens every game in the arcade.

So who does the voices in this movie?

john-c-reilly-sized.jpg

John C. Reilly as Wreck-It Ralph
One half of Shake N' Bake. You probably know and love him from Talladega Nights, Magnolia, Chicago, Step Brothers, also he was in Walk Hard but I never saw that movie but a lot of people like it?

Jack-Mcbrayer-300x300.jpg

Jack McBrayer as Fix-It Felix, Jr.
An apple-faced goon that you probably know from 30 Rock and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Can perform "Top That" from Teen Witch perfectly. Is immortal.

silverman-crap.jpg

Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz
Adorably Jewish and star of The Sarah Silverman Program. A lot of people find her annoying. Is known for sometimes fucking Matt Damon, much to the chagrin of Jimmy Kimmel.

glee-poster-jane-lynch.jpg

Jane Lynch as Sergeant Calhoun
Adored by audiences the world over for her turn as Cindy Lightballoon in Arrested Development, also she's on this show about singing where she makes a lot of tired jokes about hair gel

The supporting cast also includes a bunch of nice talent: Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Suburgatory), Dennis Haysbert (24, Allstate Insurance), Ed O'Neill (Married...with Children, Modern Family), Adam Corolla (uh...) and...Skrillex? (killing your ears)

Video Game Cameos

Also notable is the fact that this movie has a ton of cameos of characters from existing franchises. The following list is from Wikipedia so who knows how accurate it is, though many of them can be seen in the trailers.

Ryu, Ken, Zangief, Chun-Li, Cammy (yesssss) and M. Bison from Street Fighter
Kano from Mortal Kombat (probably the oddest inclusion here considering Mortal Kombat's content)
Sonic and Doctor "Eggman" (goddammit) from Sonic the Hedgehog
Bowser from Super Mario Bros.
Pac-Man, Inky, Pinky, Blinky and Clyde from Pac-Man
Q*Bert, Oily, Slick, Sam and Ugg from Q*Bert
Neff from Altered Beast
The paperboy from Paperboy
Knight from Joust
Frogger from Frogger
Dig Dug from Dig Dug
The paddles from Pong (?)
Peter Petter from BurgerTime (fuckyes)
The Qix from Qix
The bartender from Tapper
Yuni Verse from Dance Dance Revolution

Speaking of which, here are some trailers

So basically, yeah, I'm pretty psyched for this movie. Video game movies have always tended to be shit, but being specifically about a fictional arcade game (and including established characters in your film) seems like a neat workaround. And going beyond some of the obvious retro characters like Pac-Man and pulling into Qix, Tapper and BurgerTime gives me a sense that the creators have a reverence for video games in general, even the modern games they seem to be sending up (check out the walking animation of the soldiers from Hero's Duty; it straight looks like something out of Gears of War, a nice little touch). Plus, Disney has been on a fucking roll since Bolt, with The Princess and the Frog and Tangled, while Pixar has been falling a little behind with Cars 2 and Brave (I liked Brave but who listens to me). It's nice to see what a little friendly competition can do.

So who else is gonna be seeing this?
