Tox you are awesome. I grabbed Dual Heat Sinks, then rejigged to get Endosteel. And taking out a few DHS I upgraded to a Standard 250 while still having full armor, 4 Medium Lasers, 1 Small Laser, and 2 SRM6s. I gained 17 kph from the engine and am now a Speed Gonzales of Death.
We aim to please. Fortunately I've been playing the TT version for about half my life. And by "playing" I mean "building 'mechs" because, it's Battletech, who the hell ever actually had time for a match?
And I highly recommend jumping on that. Hawken is super god damn fun. It's VERY fast though so it'll be a bit of a shock to the system if you're only used to MWO paced mech games.
It'll be a shock to the system to play something that might actually work.
Tbh, Hawken's Alphas were in better shape that MWO's current beta.
At no point did that sentence drift into exaggeration either.
It's not really surprising I mean I think most devs would focus on making the game work at a fundamental level before adding new content and trying to balance things.
Personally, I would love to get an under-the-hood look at the relationship between PGI and their publisher. MWO was clearly PGI's second choice for making this game (the standard full game being their first choice of course, but that didn't happen) and they obviously have people that take the material seriously, yet they just cannot seem to get their act together. If PGI's development history wasn't so sketchy, I would honestly say for certain that all these problems are the result of an impatient publisher breathing down PGI's collective necks and that's why we keep getting stuff shoved in that involves real-money purchases but nothing is getting fixed. I mean, the fact that one of the publisher's groups does the testing and PGI just implements fixes raises an immediate giant red neon flag; it's never a good sign when the people who can actually fix things are separated from the people trying to fix them. It'd be like trying to talk somebody through heart surgery over the phone; sure, the surgeon might be a trained doctor, but if he has to operate based on a description of the problem, the patient is in serious trouble.
That being said, PGI's own history isn't exactly exemplary, so they may very well be completely screwing the pooch here because they just aren't a very good company.
I really wanted to like Hawken, but something about it just never clicked with me. I keep trying it each beta push too, but nope, I just don't feel it. Nothing wrong with the game of course, just not for me.
Anyhow this is the mechwarrior thread, and I must say that tonight I had a streak of great games going up until somebody jinxed it by saying "Stick together team" in chat and then we lost that match.

Fuck that. You're not a scout, you're the cap-block assist. When the light runs back to block a cap, you run back to help out, and to shred whatever it is was trying to cap, that the light just chased off the point.
Honestly, a -4SP with a big engine is basically a "go wherever the team needs you and wreck shit when you get there" 'mech.
e: Them and obviously Dragons with big engines, as well.
Well I mean more that when I'm running with PA dudes in Heavies and other mediums, I'm typically the fastest dude there.
psh, that's why I carry LRMs. When you're fire support, they never make you do anything.
I charged an LRM Catapult today. He had 3 LRM20s and an LRM15 (or 2 20s and 2 15s, I forget). In the time it took me to get into melee, he took me from full to red.
Sorry for the tangent, but its still shooty mech related:
With the Hawken Beta from RPS.
-go to the hawken webpage. (directed there via the RPS beta key page that @Taranis and @TOGSolid linked)
-Make an account.
-in the top right of the screen it is *very* tiny but there is the redeem button.
-click it and put in RPS's super code.
-If there is still a key, you'll get a notification that you are good to go and that you can continue with this instruction.
-On the main page again, look in the top left of the screen. Bigger button this time, but you still gotta be aware it's there.
-Click "Join Beta"
and that's where the damn client download is. It's autopilot from there on out.
I got "closed beta 3 hasn't started, but we'll put you on the roster and send you an email on November 20." :P I guess I do have an ACCESS BETA button now though?

Kinda annoyed the 3D is 9 million because of the XL 280 engine because I already have an XL 280 for my Wang, but oh well, I'm only a million or so short.
Sell the Wang's 280XL and you'll have all the cash you need!
I haven't had much playtime lately, but I'm looking forward to running with the Oosiks some more, especially once 8 player matching returns. I, however, see problems with how that'll work for numbers; a hard 8 player group means that if we have 7 or 10-15 players around (basically anything just short of a full group) will be an issue. I don't know how participation has been keeping up lately, but we often had 1-5 groups running when I was on a hardcore kick, but often in numbers that wouldn't fit easily into exact multiples of 8.
Also, the "all or none" approach puts me off a little. Obviously it puts all pugs on the same footing; unlikely to be any voice communication and teamwork experience giving one side or another a massive advantage, but if it comes down to getting a spot in a crew of 8 or going solo, I can't see myself doing the latter much. Teams of 4 weren't ideal, but at least I knew that half the team weren't going to try to core me from behind with an accidental alpha strike (apologies to the one time I tagged someone similarly, mistakes were made...).
Oh well, #firstworldoosikproblems
No Atlas on hand yet, but I do have an LRM Cat that hopefully can at least rain some havoc down on the opposition. If groups do often go literally 8 Atlas', an advantage would be that I won't be likely to have a bloody Jenner trying to crawl up my ass while I do so.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
My decision to financially support this game is starting to feel less and less sound.
Assuming the Desert map's release slips into Janurary, they're now on pace to release 3 maps a YEAR.
This does not feel like a game that is in full production, or even one that has a full production team working on it.
and if my prodding and nagging to my wife about what to get me for christmas goes well, i should be rocking and 8 core system in a little over a month. goodbye CPU Limitations!

I'm far from an avid PGI defender, but (even with their current track record) you'd think that stuff like maps and mechs would start getting churned out faster once (if) they get past the gameplay coding phase.

You may want to stop by the Computer Build thread over in the Moe's subforum. If it's at all possible to get off the AMD platform (and the build thread will definitely help spell out your options), you should.

Yes and no. I'm hoping that if even if PGI completely tanks it, someone else will look at the numbers and interest they initially had and go "let's do that, only without fucking it up like they did." Much like with Star Citizen, half the reason I bought in was just to show that yes, this franchise needs to come back.
ECM
Target Date: December 4th - 60%
Status: Play Testing, Additional Feature Work
Notes: Working on balancing. Most likely will limit to specific Light/Medium Chassis for now (similar to how jump jets work).
Most likely? That's how ECM is suppose to work you fucking clods. That's the entire reason you added the Raven in the first fucking place. Remember? Role warfare? If I remember correctly, the Raven should be the only mech in this game that can even field an ECM Jammer in 3049.

You do know certain heavy and assault mechs had it in battletech right? Also with a mech lab and customization the thought would be anyone could put it on instead of just stock mechs? Limiting it is a good choice, but saying so with a mechlab present is a smart thing to do.
In fact a quick look at sarna says there was a specific variant of the Cataphract that had the ECM. It was a "hero" mech but nonetheless. CTF-5MOC.

They also have Artemis as all-the-time accuracy benefits.
I mean, just as a reminder of things they thought were good ideas.

they updated the "Content Roadmap"
98% of the content is skins and bobbleheads
http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/75704-content-roadmap/page__pid__1465299#entry1465299
Dec 18th is Stalker Chassis and "30%" chance of a new map (ie: no new map)
The Feature Roadmap is equally depressing. Conquest only 50% done
http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/75695-feature-roadmap/
I think the 50% for Conquest is the likelihood that it'll be done on the 4th, not its current state of readiness.
Invariably it's the atlas who does 13 fucking dmg the entire match.
