My decision to financially support this game is starting to feel less and less sound.
Yes and no. I'm hoping that if even if PGI completely tanks it, someone else will look at the numbers and interest they initially had and go "let's do that, only without fucking it up like they did." Much like with Star Citizen, half the reason I bought in was just to show that yes, this franchise needs to come back.
Well yes, stompy mechs and space sims are two genres that need a resurgence. And it's slowly starting to happen through these alternate business means. But I could easily see other developers getting soured if MW:O tanks hard well short of their goals. I could also see another developer trying their luck without the BT IP, only to end up going the WoT P2W route.
I specifically want MW:O to succeed because it's Battletech. If this fails, seeing another game set in this universe any time soon seems far less likely.
That said, I'll still take stompy mechs wherever I can get them :rotate:
I'm speaking strictly about what's in the game right now in 3049. I know in years to come a bunch of other mechs will get it like the Jenner, Hunchback, and the Cataphract, but right now in 3049 it's only the Raven as far as in game mechs go.
Yes, we have an awesome mechlab, but if they don't severely limit the ECM suite then the Raven will forever be the worst mech in the game. Half the selling point for this game was role warfare. It seems incredibly silly to not limit certain toys just because "lol mechlab."
So last night after patching up, my game performance seemed to take a big hit. Specifically, my FPS was chugging down into the teens when just walking about, and dipping into single-digits in firefights. I restarted the client after a particularly bad slideshow.
Also, it seems like I lost heatsinks. I checked to make sure my previous setup had saved (LaserHunch packed w/ Med. Lasers and heatsinks on an Endo core) and it was all there, but my heat built up *super* quick and took much, much longer to dissipate. A couple times, I'd go into heat shutdown and when the mech came back up, I'd still be lacking a working HUD and have the Heat Shutdown graphics flashing at the top.
I played the same mech for a couple hours the night before, so I doubt it's a case of "Learn to use LAZORS n00b" - even on the frozen maps, I'd cycle through the lasers once and be at 90+ % heat.
I was more commenting on TOG's comment on how ECM is supposed to be limited to lights/medium mechs cause "That's how ECM is suppose to work you fucking clods." when it wasn't that way. Not the actual implementation.
I worded it kinda shittily tbh, sometimes my bouts of "I mad" inhibit my ability to communicate effectively. I was fixating more on the "maybe limiting" comment. If they let every mech have access to ECM that would be beyond retarded. Not even Mechwarrior 4 made that horrible mistake. The fact that they're even potentially entertaining the idea of not limiting it is just "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUU" inducing.

To be fair, it depends on what it does. If, for instance, it was something as simple as a reverse of what BAP does, that wouldn't be nearly as bad, since BAP would perfectly counteract it.
However, they're clearing planning on doing a lot more with it than just that.

ECM
Target Date: December 4th - 60%
Status: Play Testing, Additional Feature Work
Notes: Working on balancing. Most likely will limit to specific Light/Medium Chassis for now (similar to how jump jets work).
Most likely? That's how ECM is suppose to work you fucking clods. That's the entire reason you added the Raven in the first fucking place. Remember? Role warfare? If I remember correctly, the Raven should be the only mech in this game that can even field an ECM Jammer in 3049.
You do know certain heavy and assault mechs had it in battletech right? Also with a mech lab and customization the thought would be anyone could put it on instead of just stock mechs? Limiting it is a good choice, but saying so with a mechlab present is a smart thing to do.
In fact a quick look at sarna says there was a specific variant of the Cataphract that had the ECM. It was a "hero" mech but nonetheless. CTF-5MOC.
Initially, the Raven was a test bed platform for ECM. The CTF-4L line variant has ECM, too - the reason is that any unit with Capellan-built stealth armor has to have an ECM for stealth armor to work. Stealth armor makes it harder to acquire a lock at range, so it gives a
17% penalty to hit at medium range and a 34% penalty to hit at long range.
And Stealth Armor doesn't exist until the 3060's which is when the other ECM capable Cataphract, the 4L, becomes a thing.
To be fair, it depends on what it does. If, for instance, it was something as simple as a reverse of what BAP does, that wouldn't be nearly as bad, since BAP would perfectly counteract it.
I'm not terribly worried about ECM balance, but more just that they're going to end up severely diluting the game by making any mech do any thing. Why bother adding the Raven in the first place if they aren't going to limit ECM? The entire reason for the existence of that mech was that it was an EWAR platform. It's completely shit at doing anything other than that.

My Laserback seems to be about where it was before the patch. On Forest Colony Snow, 4 back-to-back bursts (7 MLas) put me at ~85%, with dissipation appearing to be normal. Also, FWIW, you'll get more mileage with DHS than with ES on that mech. You'll want to reduce the weapons load a bit, too, to avoid heat problems. I just took two MLas out of the lunchbox since it let me fit another DHS, but swapping for SLas works alright.
And yeah, performance definitely took a hit. I would even go so far as to say that it's responsible for most of the additional shittiness we've been experience in the latency/netcode department. If everybody's machine is chugging to keep up, it's going to affect latency.

The Heat Shutdown sticking around on restart is a bug that's been around for a while. It happens to me on occasion as well. Normally shutting down again will get rid of it, although that's often not practical and I end up running around eyeballing shots instead.
I've heard that a lot of the post patch framerate issues (especially if you haven't had problems before) can be caused by the shader files getting corrupted during the patch download. Try deleting everything in MechWarrior Online\USER\Shaders. That'll force the cache to rebuild itself (your first run on a map will be slow while it rebuilds) which may solve your FPS issue.
So, Piranha Hunt tonight and the reward is a cockpit decoration somewhere down the line? I'm up for it
Gonna be a pain though, because you have to: a) get a match with them b) get a match with them on the other team and c) be the one to kill them when they're on the other team
So after several rounds of being the highest damage on a losing pug team (400+ on average) I decided that if I switched to my Atlas there would be a much higher chance of being match AGAINST instead of WITH crappy trial Atlas pilots who have no idea what they're doing.
And I just got three rounds in a row against premades with Reapers. Awesome.
So I just got the yellow screen bug, used Shift-F11 to turn off HUD and got a kill before I died while pulling focus away from my teammates. Our guys got pretty torn up but edged out the win.
Fartacus - I've been wanting to upgrade to DHS, just hadn't spent the time in the Mechlab before playing yesterday. I did so today and upgraded my engine to the 260 so now I'm a relatively fast laser-back.
Shdwcaster - thanks for the tip on the cache folder. I tried it out before launching the game today. FPS seemed to be more stable than last night.

I tried this, and it didn't seem to help. I'm going to just turn everything to the absolute minimum and see if I can at least get rid of the 10ms extra latency I picked up with the patch.
I chose the 4X because I feel it has a superior hardpoint distribution, save for the missile in the head, but it can't mount AC20's and is silly slow. You can max out it's armor and mount some great weaponry though.
I think people are having more success with the 3D, so that is definitely my next purchase. Note that you will not be able to mount an AC20 in the torso without changing the XL engine to a standard, but JUMP JETS.
Either way, I've seen people do great work with dual AC10's or dual Gauss on either variant.
Almost forgot, the 4X can mount 4 ballistic weapons, 2 per arm. So Quad AC5s or 2s are doable there.

Apparently the PGI guys that were streaming this event ended up solo dropping into matches instead of grouping because they got fed up trying to use the Social UI.

I can taste the irony.
Maybe now they'll have an idea of how completely terrible their priorities have been?
And then immediately lost fights to Streak Cats 3 games in a row. It's getting ridiculous. With the cockpit shake, the sound, the flash, the smoke, the pinpoint accuracy. I mean, fucking seriously. It's getting so old.
The blinding effect streaks have is pretty absurd, and they are definitely not hitting side torsos as much as center torso. Makes aiming to clip an ear off damn near impossible once they start hitting you.
So much crash to desktop since this patch hit... yeesh.

I was thinking about popping on for a bit... and then remembered the streaks. And then remembered the plethora of other problems. And then remembered that, after something like 2 months of this nonsense, I don't have a shred of patience for any of it any longer.
For the first time since I got into the game, I just don't want to play and it's entirely due to a stack of long-standing issues which have seen zero improvement (and most things have gotten worse) over the last several weeks. Pretty depressing, considering how much fun I used to have with it. There's such a great game here, but PGI just won't give use the shit back we need for it to actually be good again.

It really is. I bought a 3D and had basically no money left, changed the LB10X to an AC5, added heat sinks. That's it.
Then proceeded to wreck face. I mean, the 4X is fun because dakka. But the 3D is good people too.
