I got sucked back into playing this again, and my old sub *still* hasn't ended (I think it expires next month)...have any of you guys done both sub and non-sub? I'm thinking there's not much reason to stay subscribed at this point since the main benefit seems to be the patron boosts and one free thing (of middling value) each day. Am I missing something? I really feel like the fact that you don't get any kind of additional credits for being subscribed each month is kinda bullshit given the price.
I must be a moron or something. I figured I'd give this game another go, so I started a new character so I don't get overwhelmed. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to acquire the gathering skills. Can someone direct me to the correct place?

I had a sub for ages, kept it for a month or two after Rift went f2p and then canceled it after it provided virtually no benefit. The extra reward once a week was forgettable and the increased exp. gains and mount speed were unnoticeable. I've gone from 50 to 57 on my Cleric without a sub and the leveling process is relatively speedy, even without doing Carnage quests.
Rift is a great game and Trion definitely deserves our money, but spend it in the cash store and not on a subscription.

Are you out of the starting area? The first village after leaving the starting area typically has trainers.
Physician looks interesting from what I played with it. Havn't actually used it to heal a dungeon or anything, but the mechanics are fairly straightforward.
Wish there was a way to just buy the new souls for a specific amount of cash, since the number of gems it requires doesn't line up easily to any of the gem packages.

Yeah, I logged in to see how much they were, and it is rather ludicrous
Playing by myself on Faeblight*. Right now with a Defiant Rogue finishing up the first non-tutorial zone, because have been trying everything and a shorter global cooldown is so much fun.
*As the RP server, the chat is more tolerable that an endless stream of LoL jokes.
Right now, I had to clean my hard drive, so won't be playing on a week or so, but I'm using the pre-made with Nightblade and 5 pts on Riftstalker. It works OK, as long as you are actually sneaky so you can burst mobs. It goes through mobs like a knive though.
Yeah, started a fresh Defiant Rogue myself on Faeblight. Went with the Skirmisher Role to begin with (Marksman/Ranger/Riftstalker) and picked up two extra Role slots so I could try the Virtuoso Support-Role (Bard/Marksman/Riftstalker) and the Phasewalker Tank-Role (Riftstalker/Ranger/Bard). Hit Lv22 at the moment as I'm working through the second Defiant zone.
Now that I've used it to actually heal a few dungeons, Physician is goddamn brilliantly designed.
It really revolves around two toggle abilities. Alternate Treatment and... Pandemic, I'd like to say the name is?
Most of their kit involves fairly bog-standard single-target heals that are CP builders, and then you have a heal/absorb/HoT finishers.
When you toggle on Alternate Treatment, though, your single-target heals heal for less, but they break into healing five players as well. The kicker is that your energy regen is halved while it's on, making it something you have to manage and turn on and off when the situation demands it, otherwise you'll be out of energy and not be able to cast the big heals your tank may need.
Pandemic, on the other hand, works off the damage abilities that Physician gets that heal themselves when they do damage. With Pandemic on, the damage goes up on those abiltiies and the heal splits like AT to heal the party instead of just yourself. The trade-off is that just like AT, while it's on your energy regen goes down. Pretty handy for those periods when incoming damage is low and you want to switch to putting out some damage on something instead.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, Physician has the greatest damn debuff ever. You toss it on a enemy, and whenever you heal a friendly target for damage the debuffed enemy takes like 2k damage.

This may be a wasted shot in the dark but anyone here in the thread who has characters on Faeblight wanna come together under a banner of a guild? Thought it'd be nice to establish a PA presence in the server, even if it's a small casual one.
So, done with the second Defiant zone. Mostly been solo'ing with the Nightstalker premade build, and doing dungeons with the tank premade.
(Rogue tanking is so much fun).
Now the option is between Scarlet Gorge and Iron Pine Peak, both neutral zones. Since Iron Pine Peak got revamped last year to be a modern quest zone, and Scarlet Gorge is painfully boring, Iron Pine Peak it is:
My PC is kind of on the lower end these days.
EDIT: For anybody that cares, is Narset@Faeblight.
Instead of just throwing more ability points at you when you level up (and so they don't have to go through and re-do all the soul tiers again so things don't get unbalanced), at every level from 61-64 you get a choice of masteries that give you passive bonuses. They seem to be more like the current WoW talent system, and each level has a specific theme. These masteries are calling-specific.
Without covering all of the Masteries (there are a lot!), here are two highlights you’ll want to note: Masteries introduce Ethereal damage, a new type that effectively ignores 100% of enemy resistances and armor. And whereas passive soul tree damage/healing bonuses are additive, Mastery bonuses are multiplicative with all other bonuses of the same type. This makes them much more effective than a similar bonus within an existing Soul would be!
Also apparently they're extending Open Beta a few more weeks, and so the launch got pushed back to October 22'nd.

Reading patch notes, man that Reaver update looks fun (basically, it became a DPS tree). Tried to level Warrior already, but Champion is just so damn boring since Chains of Life (finisher, heals you per engaged mob) means that you can't die, ever, and the best strategy is to pull as many mobs as possible and spam Chains.
So, let's get on that...tomorrow or the weekend. 6.5 GB isn't exactly a fast download from where I am and it bothers me to play while downloading since is slower. Also, Minions.
Of course, usual disclaimers of MMOs on expansion launchs apply.
Recently picked this up, and at level 8 a rift event occurred in the starter area and I participated in closing a couple, but then as a final FU the rift spawned a bunch of level 20s and I got instagibbed, respawned and instagibbed again.

I want a better, more dedicated support tree instead of the weird half assed one we have now
For some reason, most rogue specs just never really clicked with me.

Yeah, actually I really liked the "rogue" healing class in SWTOR, so I'm looking forward to this as well

On the last few updates, I LOVE the new leveling premade paths. They are really useful.
Here's some videos of the new souls:

Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)
I'm about to start and was wondering as well. Not trying archeage yet because I'm not willing to shell out money for it.
...
It's a thing. You should totally check it out.

Had a Guardian cleric up to the 40s before, but it just feels so slow. And having to macro those 30 seconds shields is the most clunky shit ever.

EDIT2: Nice trailer.
It's pretty fun, though I wish games still had at least *some* world dungeons to crawl around for funsies instead of just instances.
