Elites were the old HDD style, slims have smaller HDDs casings.
WRONG!
You can crack open the old HDD case and pull out the actual HD and then just plug it into the slim. Granted you really should get a "sled" that houses the HD but you can do it without one if you don't move your xbox that often.
Same HD used for both, only difference is housing.
Not wrong at all. All I said was the casings are different.
Most people don't feel like fussing with that shit and, more importantly, potentially voiding the warranty of their new xbox.
Plus why the heck would I want to keep my old 250 HDD instead of the included 320?
in case you already have a big HD from a old style xbox and only got the 4gig slim since you can just use your old HD?
edit - didn't realize you were the original poster who started this chain, i see what's going on now
Your ability to track me down and try to get into arguements is as impressive as it is frightening. :-P
Just got through the fourth mission, so far each mission was better than the last.
Was never too big on Halo multiplayer so I don't know how it stacks up against past games but so far I've had a go at a few Slayer matches with the PA group and it's been a blast.
Mission 4 spoilers:
Driving the scorpion towards the elevator, I didn't think they'd let you board the ship but I guess there's no better way to show the scale of the Infinity than letting you drive a goddamn tank through it. And then Del Rio tells you to take the Mantis...
Also, a question to people who read Greg Bear's books:
Apparently there are two Didacts? Which one is it in the game? Is he the same Didact from the terminals in 3 or a different one?

Only one, and the same from the Terminals in 3 and Anniversary. This is made very clear in The Thursday War, a Huragok explains there was THE Didact. It wasn't a title. Same with Librarian.
Oh, and not a spoiler, but if you found all ten Terminals in Anniversary, and put all those codes into Waypoint, you unlock a new eleventh Terminal that's really awesome.

So what's this about an Ur-Didact I'm reading about in the wikis? Or am I getting myself into spoiler territory?
Heyyy. Still has a boobs option for multi. I can recreate my Reach toon. Also, does having waypoint and saves for previous titles unlock anything?

Late to the bandwagon because I'm an on the fence person with this series. Last Halo I bought was Combat Evolved. Now that I know that I want it, who's got a link to discounts? If there are any...
so, quick question.
while in line to grab my copy last night some dude cancelled his LE purchase and got regular instead so I decided what the heck and got the LE. I had 50 bucks in credit and the LE already contains the 30 dollar season pass I was gonna get anyways so it was only a 10 dollar premium.
I got home and entered in all the codes (2 EB pre-order codes and 5 or 6 codes from the LE, freaking insane, can't they jut have 1 code?) but I can't actually tell if I got the future map packs, there doesn't seem to be any sort of indication. Is there a way I can tell that it's credited to my account properly?
(Your math is a bit off. The season pass is 2000 points, which is $25 and not $30. So the LE is Game + Season Pass + $15 for the extra stuff). I bought it too... probably not worth it all things considered (unless the extended Forward Unto Dawn is substantially new).
If you look at the first code on the code sheet from the LE, you'll note it's "Skins + Specializations + Map packs + {something else I forget}). So while the game gives no indication of anything (which is dumb and is going to have their customer service destroyed over the next couple of days) entering that code SHOULD have us ready to go for whenever that first map pack comes out. If it's anything like Gears 3 or LA Noire, starting the game will prompt a free download of the map packs when they come out.
So honest opinion time from folks: Is it worth it if you aren't all that interested in competitive multiplayer?
I know it has that Spartan Ops co-op, but I'm curious if it's enough to justify the $60 for the game, because the campaign would have to be really good to justify the price by itself.
Honestly, I liked it a lot. The skirmishes were consistently fun and challenging (though the damn Crawlers can get cheap as fuck in groups) and the story did a good job of really making the Haloverse feel like it's got some bigger stuff going on in it.
(Ending spoilers)
I am a little surprised that they killed off Didact (apparently?) right off the bat; I liked the idea that they were apparently setting up a singular baddie to set against Chief to carry through the entirety of the so-called Reclaimer trilogy, but now I have no idea what exactly they've got planned.
I was also surprised at how subtle but effective the Chief and Cortana characterization was handled-- while Chief has never really had that much of a character or been that expressive, I probably wouldn't have taken it seriously if they'd tried to pull a Ninja Gaiden 3 with him, i.e. suddenly try to go for DEEP DRAMATIC CHARACTER SHIFT and fail miserably. Chief feels like a bit more of a person, without completely going out of character. And for not really caring about Cortana before, she was really nicely handled here.
I'm not sure if I would say this is 'the best Halo ever'-- I'm probably gonna need to replay it a few times and really think on that-- but it plays great (and is a welcome shift from 5 years of military shooters), has a really strong sense of atmosphere, and I actually managed to get emotionally invested on some level, which is rare for me. Overall I feel like 343 did a great job, and I'm very interested to see where things go from here, and what else they decide to do with the series.
Is anyone else having weird trouble with spartan ops not working right, or the matchmaking claiming the servers are down? I'm assuming it's because the servers are hammered.

All I know is I'm watching the campaign on Youtube because I don't have an Ekesbawkes 730 and it sucks. I want to play campaign!
I did feel a little out of the loop with regards to the story though, like I played 3 and the one with the firefly crew as voices, but this game seems to assume I know characters I never met.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Goddamn I got to play one, count it one full game of Multiplayer and went 25/5 just wrecking kids. If only the fucking servers worked and matchmaking wasn't borked horribly I'd be enjoying things.
Okay, I just looked at multiplayer for the first time. Uh.... Where the fuck are all the options? They drastically neutered the number of things you can do with game modes compared to Halo 3. From what I can tell there is not a single mode that supports more than 2 teams. The option for Teams is simply Enabled or Disabled. I really don't see the multiplayer on this holding my attention as long when I can't do crazy awesome just for fun shit like Rocket Race. Unless its possible to add multiple team spawn points in Forge or something, the list of options under Custom Games is disappointing to say the least.
edit: Okay, looks like you can set up multiple team spawn points in Forge, but how exactly do you determine how many teams you want in any given game mode? Things were much easier to set up in previous games and didn't require using Forge.
edit#2: I have to give this some credit, it does support one thing I liked on Halo 2 that I could not do on Halo 3. 4 team CTF. Extraction also supports 4 teams, Dominion and Grifball are limited to two teams, and Slayer, Oddball, King of the Hill, and Regicide support 8 teams.
Did they get rid of single-flag CTF though? I can't find that anywhere.

I live in canada and 2000 points costs 30 bucks up here
War Games Haven theme (yes, I nabbed one of these off the thread earlier because I am a big dork and didn't realize I would get one as a preorder bonus):

It also appears that the 360 slim I rented for the express purpose of playing Halo 4 won't actually connect to the Comcast-provided Arris TG862G router I have in this place. I guess I can play ...and then re-play again once I'm in my house. :firstworldproblems:
I have never halo'd much before other than a few old campaigns but a work mate convinced me to pick it up and shoot mans. I've friended the meta tag and hopefully get to play with you guys too.

You can add me on XBL and twitter (handles are the same: s314der). I JUST finished Costume Quest not too long ago, and anyone rocking a Robo-Reynold avatar/sig combo gets major points.
Am I always going to be scavenging for ammo for the entire game or just the first couple levels? Cus its kinda annoying.
Only during some of the early sections was I ever really hurting for ammo, though you have to use the weapons of your enemies, never enough human weapons around.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I am really enjoying the campaign so far. My sister is a pretty big playstation fangirl, and she watched a few of the cut scenes and said "man this looks good". One cut scene later comes "I wish i had an xbox"... Haha that was fun.
On the game play side of things i am really enjoying this. Thank you thread for hyping this enough for me to pick it up. Each weapon i pick up seems cooler than the last. Sprinting is nice. I haven't played much multiplayer yet, but i will tonight.

But when I plug that in it says I'm not authorized to unlock it yet???
You need to beat the first Spartan Ops mission, IIRC.
