One gripe: the sound mix. The game can't seem to put enemy sounds in the right spot, in-game dialogue getting drowned out by music/explosions with no option for individual volumes, and the reload noises. I'm obviously holding the pistol in front of me, so why does it sound like it's right next to my ear?
I love the new weapon sounds, though, except the FRC. It sounds like someone serving a ping pong ball. It may have always had that sound, but I also didn't play the past titles with a 5.1 setup.
And Heroic is beating my ass worse than any of the Legendary difficulties did. Yes, Vacorsis, I JUST finished that mission. Now I have no time for multi and probably won't even get to it by next Tuesday.

You had me worried, actually. You yelled, "That's it, I'm returning this!" and stormed off. I spent labored hours wondering if you were leaving me! I can't lose you, spider! Not again!

I'd be down. I've ran through the first two missions already, so if you don't mind starting on the third one that world be cool
Thanks, but I got it done shortly after my post. Had a friend available, so we took down one of the missions on Heroic. It was...well, a pain in the ass, but I got the achievement just like I wanted.
Hopefully it will apply by the time the Wii U launch hits.
As a Battlefield guy, I find the auto-aim jarring. Is there a way to disable it?
Teach me your ways! I haven't played a console shooter in a long time, and i'm having a very hard time getting the rounds on target. Wondering if the Call of Duty games had a stronger autoaim.
sigh. Halo 4 won't recognize i have a gold membership, "requires an xbox live gold membership with permission to play multiplayer on xbox live" WELL IT's A GOOD THING I HAVE THAT THEN YOU SON OF A BITCH! /rage woe is me.

Try downloading your profile again. As long as your sub is valid that usually fixes it.

What's with some of the lower level (less than 10) people in wargames already having some of the crazier armor sets? Is there some kind of custom games exploit for most of them or ?
Let me add my voice to the 'holy shit this game looks amazing' crowd.
I think I'm about halfway through the campaign and so far, on Heroic, Knights are tough. Haven't really figured out the best way fight them so far beside dumping ammo in to them.

Isolate/annihilate watchers first, clear out crawlers, that will leave the battlefield open to you. Knights are brought down very quickly by super close range stuff. Suppressor does decent here, scattershot WILL two shot them at point blank.

Finally got to dig in. And either I'm awesome at games (probably) or I haven't gotten to whatever mission is so hard because I started on Heroic as per usual and I'm just dominating. Certain sections cause a handful of deaths, but nothing too bad.
I am currently on
the Mammoth level, yay sort of Halo Wars references (I know it was in 3, but it actually does stuff in Wars).
So the good, the bad, and the weird:
Good:
-Controls real fine. The feel was just instantly very comfortable and exciting.
-Shield only health (I did like ODST and Reach's system), but it doesn't feel shitty like Halo 2.
-Purty cutscene graphics
-New guns are cool as is the mech... oh the mech is so fun. But they threw in the tank too, which was a highlight as always
-Covenant role is good, I was worried about them and it feeling like a rehash
-Challenge level on Heroic feels good. More ODST than Reach.
Bad:
-The sound seems... confused. Like punching stuff often produces no sound at all (quite noticeable when I have to destroy the three things in the mission I mentioned earlier)
-Music isn't real concerned with being noticed. The tank part would have been a good time to impress us, but the music hid even further down. See also,
the part where Chief FINALLY meets other humans.
-Dialogue mix is odd. The "transmissions" from the beginning of the game were completely inaudible, not just hard to understand like I assume was their intention.
-Achievement names for beating the levels aren't exactly interesting. Unless the rest are more fun, Bungie kicked the shit out of them in this area.
-Terminals aren't visually distinctive enough, I only have one so far and have NO IDEA what they look like even still. This is strange since they were quite noticeable in Anniversary.
-Finding skulls is more fun than just having them guys. I don't care who told you the opposite, they were WRONG.
Weird:
-Okay I know we love rifles, but seriously you guys. WTF. Battle Rifle, DMR, Carbine, Magnum (still performing like a tiny rifle), and Forerunner rifle? And we haven't even talked about snipes yet.
-Does that weird assault plasma rifle type thing replace the plasma rifle? If so, no me gusta, the plasma rifle was a NATIONAL TREASURE.
-The concussion rifle continues to suck monkey nuts, why they brought this POS back I'll never know
-The Forerunner guns have TONS of ammo, but stuff like the sword has one swing left in it. Balance?
-Are the Forerunner guns supposed to be a straight upgrade to everything else? Because with a few exceptions, they totally are. I mean, technologically that makes sense obviously, but Halo games usually balance the primitive shit right alongside the pinnacle of technology.
-About some of the Covvies:
Brutes weren't fanatical enough to join the crazy town group? I guess the Elites would just kill 'em on sight, religious nut group or no, huh? What about Drones? I did read that the Engineers fled in Glasslands, so I wasn't expecting them.
-About the big bad:
he's just straight up weird looking, amirite?
-About the other humans:
what crawled up commander grouchy pants' ass and died? Is he worried Chief's immense skills and popularity will cause a coup or something? And I wish Chief would stop referring to things matter of factly before he knows what they are. At one point, he's like "we've gotta do that thing with Infinity!" Next conversation with Cortana: "so... what is Infinity again? I literally have NO idea." Ditto with Spartan Jennifer Hale, he was far too casual there. He or Cortana should have been like "whaaa?"
Like ODST and Reach I decided to try Legendary on the first pass. What the fuck.
I can't kill the first Knight. Support dead, multiple clips and grenades dumped into it. No idea how many tries before I quit. I think it's immune to damage. Maybe I need to shoot the heel or something.
I don't know whether I need to spoil this or not, but I'm onto the 2nd or 3rd campaign level and I really feel like I'm missing something.
Cortana keeps talking about some Infinity thing like I'm supposed to know what it is, and Master Chief just goes along with it, so apparently I'm supposed to know what it is.
But I don't know what it is, so I'm really confused.

Is it just me or are the Marines generic and their armour butt-ugly in Halo 4? I haven't heard a single memorable quip from any of them. I don't know why, but the marines just seemed to have so much more character in the other games. Whatever happened to these mofos:
I cannot get over how good this game is. It has lived up to my hype and exceeded it. Dominion is so good. Thus far, all I'm playing is Dominion and I've never loved Halo MP as much as I do right now. Played through 4-5 levels of the campaign too. Can't wait to try out Spartan Ops later.
How do I take advantage of the specializations I unlock with my Limited Edition purchase btw? I redeemed the code, but they are all still locked, so there's something I'm still missing.

Chief asks Cortana what she knows about the Infinity in the second mission, after finding the Cartographer
I'm thinking this has the most powerful needler since CE. It's like kryptonite to Knights.

Hmm, I either completely missed that conversation, or I saved and quit right before it happened, because I'm at that point in the game.

The game seems to assume you've watched Forward Unto Dawn:
It's never explained how the Chief and Lasky know each other. It was a little odd when you spend that 15 or so minutes searching IFF tags and dismissing any dead marine who isn't Lasky. Also, the Chief and Cortana don't seem too fazed by all the Spartan-IVs popping up. IIRC there weren't any in Halo 3?
EDIT: Just wanted to reiterate I'm really enjoying the campaign otherwise! Hate to nitpick on little story bits.

Also, heroic difficulty is kicking my ass. Had to take a break before I started mashing the controller into my face.
I'll throw my 14 day trial key up here when I'm at my pc next. Weeeee

Normal had some aggravating fights, I can't imagine heroic makes those easier.

Also, I have my copy, but my wife won't let me play on account of the election.
Clearly we need to have a talk about priorities.

I'll probably play all night and power through the campaign. Tomorrow if anyone's up for it I was thinking of running some Spartan Ops co-op.
Any tips for someone who's last console FPS experience was 2 hours of CoD about a year ago.

if you join up with me, let me know! I had someone join my party in between matches and I had no idea they were there until I was quitting.
I'm ArchSilversmith on XBL. I am so gonna use Forge.

I mean I'm pretty early on..but I'm definitely getting that vibe. We'll see if it keeps going, but so far I'm very happy.
The art alone is amazing in this game. It's just beautiful to look at.
thanks, that seems to have done it.
But this. Holy shit does it look nice. Probably one of the prettiest games I have seen in a long time.
Also haven't played a console shooter since, Modern Warefare 2. I'm sucking so much right now. PC's have neutered me
I think I'm about halfway through the campaign and so far, on Heroic, Knights are tough. Haven't really figured out the best way fight them so far beside dumping ammo in to them.
I loved the look of Halo 3 and ODST, thought they had a fantastic art style and direction
I found Reach pretty ugly though, so I'm glad they moved away from the grimy brown that made up a lot of that game

3 could be called beautiful for being bright, colorful, and vibrant while everyone was bitching about Call of Brown: Modern Bloom alone.
It had 300% more purple and green than its rivals.
Microsoft's gonna nickel and dime this shit to death on the maps department isn't it? Here's hoping what's on the disc is decent and substantial.
