So Spartan Assault pops up in my Xbox Games app. Or at least I could buy credits if I wanted to now, but not the game on my Surface! Clicking on the link inside the Xbox Games app dumps you to nowhere in the store... because Verizon timed-exclusivity?
just... /boggle
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
yeah nope, too little too late with these maps/skins. the season pass maps were almost universally bad... and I sold the game a while ago. plus how easy it was to hit the level cap and do the commendations when compared to reach... halo 4 really was a let down despite me sinking in a lot of time on multiplayer.

think you just saw an early listing. its not showing up for me right now, though is apparently due to release on the 18th(so today/tomorrow depending where you are). also the Verizon exclusive just applies to the phone version and will only last 30 days, so not to bad as far as timed exclusives go.
EDIT: ok, am seeing the same listing you are now but the actual game still isn't available.
Anybody else grab Spartan Assault? I've been playing it on my Surface Pro and its a real solid arcadey experience. Levels are a bit short, but I should try higher difficulty levels soon. Touch controls felt a little oversensitive at first, but I got used to them. I just hope it gets controller support sooner than later.
Yea, I like it. The game slightly of reminds me of Cannon Fodder. Only had a chance to play the first few missions, how do you adjust the difficulty level? I just put on skulls. Pacifist + Hollow = good times!
It's definitely a game that I would hook my surface pro up to a TV and connect a controller for too.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
I guess I was crazy. I started a couple other mobile games that day, so I'm probably crossing some wires in my head.
I really hope there's some kind of content update down the pipe. I like the game a lot, but its really lacking on the score attack front, even if it seems built for it. I just want an "arcade mode."

Hmmm...very tempting. I've got $12.50 in my Live account, and I could always use a game intended for Surface. How does it handle with controllers?

Apparently Palmer was handpicked by Jun to be one of the first Spartan-IVs.

Nobody knows. It doesn't support controllers... yet (it's supposed to be added via patch at a later date)
The game is still fun though.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
Back in November when the Wii U launched I unhooked my Xbox 360 and haven't really played it since, but I finally got around to finishing Halo 4 last night.
What an...underwhelming game.
Also, while I'm here...if I have the Halo Anniversary release, there's no need for me to keep around my Xbox copy of Halo I assume?

I hope so--that could be a lot of fun with two sticks. I picked it up and am struggling with the game, but it's a lot of fun in touchscreen.
So ah is this the right thread to geek out about Halo lore? Because I've never played any of the games besides the first one but I am consuming Eric Nylund's Halo novels (plus Contact Harvest) at a voracious pace. They're really quite enjoyable, and I am tempted to pick up a secondhand 360 just to play the main games...
Office makes something like 1200% more than Halo a year and was only brought to other mobile platforms recently. You may be holding out for a few decades.

Keep in mind that The Flood is a novelization of the first game. It's probably still worth playing if you haven't (though be prepared to do some backtracking).
Greg Bear's novels are absolutely worth it as well.

I played H:CE ages ago, but I am tempted to borrow a friend's 360 and replay it before moving on to the other games in the main series. (Pluse ODST, because hey, Firefly cast. My friend says the Forerunner books (i.e. those buy Greg Bear) aren't worth it, but hey opinions are opinions. Are there any books or comics about Rtas or Thel?
I read the first Greg Bear book. It's okay if you pretend it's a standalone story and not part of Halo canon. A lot of the backstory it provides is silly or underwhelming.
Book spoilers:
The Flood infestation started out with pet cosmetics. Really?

This is what happened to me a few years back.
I had bought a 360, and was interesting in picking up Halo 3. I hadn't played a Halo game before, so I figured I may as well start from the beginning, so I bought Halo. After playing through it, the Flood interested me enough that I bought the original trilogy of novels. (This was back before things exploded as far as expanded universe works go.) Then I bought Halo 2...and then Halo 3...and so on from there.
The Operation Hydra expansion adds five new missions to Halo: Spartan Assault, as well as new achievements. Players will rejoin Spartan Sarah Palmer in the content, as they embark on a mission to the core of planet Draetheus V's moon to discover the source of an alien signal.
The expansion also adds support for wired Xbox 360 controllers, allowing players to control the Spartan-IV soldiers through the familiar input on Windows 8 PCs and tablets. On top of this, power weapons previously only available through in-app purchase can now be acquired through using XP.
Somebody goofed. Company that did the CGI Halo Xbox One trailer uploaded it to their portfolio.. except it has Halo 5 at the end, and 2014 release date.
On that, we're in agreement.
-ish.
There's lots of variables, so depending on what the person likes I guess you might want to go with some of the other ones.
Isn't rambling on about semantics fun?
So pissed. My friend was screwing around while I was trying to save a match and now I can't watch the game past a certain point. I want to clip out me sticking a banshee.
I have a clip of me on a game of Invasion: Spire. It's the third phase, I grab the snipes, and the enemy Banshee all of a sudden somes around the corner, hugging the ground for some reason. I sprint into a man cannon, and the Banshee follows me up. I drop three rounds into it on the way up, and when I land, I figure I need to keep moving because the banshee is right behind me, so I jump off the edge, dropping my last round into the banshee on the way down, killing it. And I hadn't really looked before I leaped, so I figure I'm a goner, but then I get lucky and hit one of the lifts. It was awesome.

EDIT: God damnit, that's classic Mk V armor complete with the fanny pack. 343i, you know my weakness.
Is this DLC included in the season pass? Didn't see anything in the trailer saying it was.
EDIT: Just read somewhere else that it will not be included in the Season Pass.
edit of all edits: I thought the throwback armor sets looked good. Then I saw them in-game:
They look like the goddamn Halo Mega Bloks.
and there will be more stances too... hm..

Anniversary is actually based off Halo PC, and isn't 1:1 with the original even in Classic mode.

Fucking hell Microsoft!
Way to narrow your market down to a needle for your smartphone game. Requires Verizon and a Windows phone.
I mean, I have Verizon. But jeez. I would happily give you money for your game.
But nope!

its only a timed exclusive on Verizon*, it'll come to other handlers soon enough. still going to be WP8 only though.
*and it seems its only in the US that they went this route. everywhere else it was available to everyone day one.
I was about to say, blame Verizon. Everywhere else, it was available from the get-go.

Correcting here that Scott wasn't Lead Designer, but Lead Game Designer. Brad Welch was the overall Lead Designer.
According to Halo 3, you can still pre-order it.
That's not fair.
You seen the ODST microfigs? Those guys are badass. This? Not so much.
On a related note, I'd say if you only played one Halo game ODST would be a good pick. Just a brilliant, atmospheric little number.
