Having to work during a sale sucks. I am, however, going to try to scrape something together for a giveaway or two this afternoon/evening. I hope you guys like what I choose.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

Doesn't everyone?
Except "And Yet It Moves". Because it made me ill.
Also I'm back and I want to know what I missed in terms of flash sales.
I spent my entire day down at the local food pantry cooking pies, cakes, and cookies for tomorrows community dinner they have and for delivery to anyone who can't make it out to it. I can safely say that I do not want to look at another goddamn pumpkin pie after preparing around four hundred of the fucking things today. I had my nice little assembly line of bitches helpers that I commanded as we powered through everything and pretty much did the impossible.
To anyone who in the past year was so classy as to gift me something, I added up the face (non-sale) value of all the games that were gifted to me by classholes in here, friends, and random steamgift wins and matched it and that was donated in canned goods to the food pantry. From classy folk in here I had $472 (in non-sale full price value used) gifts that were received that I rounded up to a fiver. So that was a thousand dollars worth of canned/boxed food that went to the pantry and basically filled up a large portion of their storage from just you guys in here.
I'm going to be picking and choosing games in this and the x-mas sale to do steamgift giveaways to pay forward all the class that I've been on the recieving end of this year so recommendations on what games should be put into a steamgift giveaway are welcome.
Also the payback starts now:
I want to talk about this.
This is unbelievably awesome.
It gets worse when you realize that the thousand was just from the people here after I had matched it, all the stuff I was gifted by friends and won on random steamgift giveways tacked on another eight hundred bucks when I matched it. TL:DR I have no money and I must steam.
The way I see it is the games were either on my wishlist or where steamgifts giveaways that I entered because I wanted the game(s) so at one point or another I would have bought them. This way the face value of them went to a good cause and allowed me to piss off local stores that had sales where I bought a hundred boxes of cereal because they had a cash rewards plus a coupon to be used on next purchase. Basically I ended up spent under a buck a box after I cashed in the reward points accrued from those purchases. The rest I paid a visit to my not so local big warehouse discount superstore and loaded up the warwagon with canned goods. Between the sale shopping and going in bulk things worked out to a very large large large amount of goods that were donated and many got bagged up on the spot into bag that already have started heading out with people. The past few years have been hard on the food pantries around here as more and more people are relying on them and with the holidays right on us its a safe bet that a large rush will occur and well hopefully this will help keep them stocked up through the holidays. The downside to this is that I'm going to have to gift out smaller titles and indie games back to the PA group so I can get more out there to people, I figure ten indie games instead of one big triple A title is a fair trade off though.
The big deal was that this year I got an actual industrial mixer to use so I was able to do mass batches of the pies and cakes, I was the slave driver to a large number of people and we did an assembly line production and churned out something like 380-odd pumpkin pies along with large batches of cookies, cake, and two other types of pies. All the pies we made were picked up by churches in surrounding areas that have community dinners or a food pantry/shelter dinner and they cook and serve them up. That was a ton of work and I wasn't able to use a phone because if I dropped it that sucker was gone forever and a large batch of pie filling would have been ruined.
Today now I'm spending a couple hours this afternoon loading up the warwagon with food and doing home deliveries of meals to the old folks who can't get out. The kickass thing is that it is forecasted to be 56 degrees today and I'll be doing it at peak temperature hours (noonish till two thirtyish but it may run longer if I start later). Then on friday the temperature is supposed to drop to 30 and have snow so I can have an edge on the black Friday shoppers.
So not only did iRevert export Steam thread levels of classiness into the real (and needy) world, he leveraged Steam sale tactics as well.

@DaringDirk, you will be brushing the HELL out of your unicorns in Secret of the Magic Crystals,
Unfortunately, @Sumanai noticed that I'd entered the contest, and gifted it to me about half an hour before the contest was over. I guess I'm... Too lucky? No, that can't be right... I Bad Rat'd him in return. At any rate, @baudattitude may want to rerun or spite someone else. Beh.

edit: @Big Isy Far Cry 3 preorder is only $38 at getgamesgo.com.
I don't think its steamworks from there mate, though I totally appreciate the help! Should mention its available for purchase in Australia and the US on steam, just not EU.
For those who get Dead Island ( I loved it) just a bit of friendly advice.
Play up until you get past the first two areas, then delete in and pretend you finished it. Then you can convince yourself the resort sections were the whole game. What a fantastic game that would have been. It's too late for me, but you can save yourselves!

Skyrim, $15.95 of your american dollars. Steamworks. Couldn't get it to work from the UK region, but hopefully someone will get a use out of it.
@CroakerBC, is there a coupon to get it to $16? Showing as $30 for me.
Yeah, it's also $30 for me. $16 for Skyrim is instant purchase, $30, not so much.
It is worth so much more.
I'm hoping for the DLC to appear on sale over the next couple of days - I think I'm about ready to dive back into the snow, sample some Dawnguard and Hearthfire, and maybe even make some new goodies for Cloaks of Skyrim. Or I could wait until the next DLC and throw 'em all in there together for a new character... Decisions!
People say that spec ops kind of sucks in the beginning, and I'm wondering when it's suppposed to get good. Mainly because I was having a blast from roughly 45 seconds in.
I started playing it on Tuesday and thought the same thing. Not that I'm a connoisseur of shooters, but the mechanics work well, things seem well polished, and it's fun to play from the get go.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

Man, why can't we add packs/collections to the wishlist yet? I get that some of these are sale-only things, but it still drives me nuts.
Thanks be to @Joe Blaque for his gift of Critter Crunch. I will eat and crunch many critters in your honor.

@DaringDirk heard me raging about the bullshit of expert mode Hitman: Absolution and sent me a copy of RAGE! A good id shotgun spree sounds like it should alleviate the stress. Thank you sir!
Why doesn't SEGA put on Steam the Typing of the Dead?
You know, I'd be surprised if they don't. They've been putting other Dreamcast games on Steam.
The Typing of the Dead already had a pretty solid PC port, and it doesn't have any licensed music as far as I know, so there doesn't seem to be much holding it back. There's supposed to be some sort of iOS "Tap of the Dead" or something coming out in the future.
Happy Thanksgiving and to those who don't celebrate Thanksgiving Happy Steam Sale!
Here's a fun and calm game to help the leftovers go down better.
Crayon Physics is awesome, and anyone who doesn't have it should enter this, especially if you own a tablet. If you own a tablet PC or a touchscreen device and you don't own this game than you are fucking up.
Is Orcs and Men any good? The idea behind it sounds ok but it has a distinctly middle of the road Metacritic score and I've never heard anyone talk about it.
I've been tempted by it, especially at $20, but it just kind of appeared out of nowhere one day with no fanfare or anything. It's always seemed suspicious to me.
The trailers for Orcs and Men made me laugh, the graphics look pretty in a nice gritty way, and the gameplay looked like some good simple action comboness. I will be getting it at some point.
With all that said, it was just released, so it will be much cheaper during winter, then spring, then summer sales. Wouldn't surprise me for it to be like $5 in the summer.
