Rage is good?
Also, the indie game section doesn't look like it has a time limit? Does that mean they will last the whole sale?
Rock of Ages is cheap, but is it fun?
So with some glowing reviews now out, I'm Far Cry 3 curious all of a sudden. Do we know if the Steam version will require any Uplay nonesense? The store page doesn't seem to say.
I guess there's no rush. Who buys video games for $50? :P
Max Payne 3 you are tempting but I probably wouldn't play you til after Christmas when I (hopefully) have a proper HDD again instead of just an SSD. Tis just too big and I have other games that come first.
If Dishonored hits 66% off though or if that coupon works with the GMG price cut tomorrow (and maybe even if it doesn't) I want to grab that.
@Iolo Far Cry 3 will have uPlay, it seems all new Ubisoft releases do. I've been dealing with it with AC3 but it isn't too bad. Has an offline mode, lets you unlock a couple extra bonuses, has a cloud sync (which can be turned off) so basically an annoyance but not too bad. Far Cry 3 wasn't on my radar at all but that super positive RPS review has piqued my interest.
Quick, someone tell me the best RPG that can be played on Steam with a gamepad. I want a jrpg but the only one of those I can think of on Steam is that Square Enix atrocity.

The Last Remnant? I've heard it isn't too bad.
The ones I know of: Dungeon Siege 3, Alpha Protocol, Costume Quest, Fallout: NV, Fable 3 (I liked it), Jade Empire
I recommend AP or Costume Quest out of those. (Fallout: NV is actually my favorite but it's better with M+KB)

Last Remnant is great if you are going to use a gamepad, about the only failing of the game is the terrible kbm controls.

Aside from the Borderlandsy kind of way the game ends everything about it is pretty solid. Don't go in expecting an open world or whatever. Despite all the stuff that id put in the game, it's still very much at its heart an id style FPS. With racing. And gambling. And some other stuff. And the other stuff in the game is solid and all but you've seen it elsewhere. Go for the shotting of mutates and those old punk rocker dudes. It's also a big plus if you like racing, the racing is pretty fun. The only thing that annoys me about it sometimes is that I wish it were more of an id style shooter, like sometimes I feel like there's too much of all this stuff put in around the shooting. I enjoy the type of shooter that id makes so much I get irritated when I have to actually drive to the place I gotta make shooting. Just let me shooting mutates plz.
Slightly off topic, but anyone seen a sale for a wired 360 controller so I can play some of these controller enabled Steam games?
Even if you can't find one on Sale, it's worth picking one up. It's incredibly useful for a ton of games. I can't imagine playing They Bleed Pixels or Meat Boy without it

I heard Last Remnant has some kind of terrible action system where you can't directly pick the actions of your party and you tend to die a lot because of it. I could be misremembering, or it was misrepresented.

You give general orders/commands, but each member of your party does its thing based on that. You can see beforehand what each one of them will do for a given order.
It's not terrible, and I don't think I ever died "because of it." (As in: it's not like they went crazy against my will or anything like that.)
I guess I should continue playing it, it's nice.
If you can, try to find the tweaks to make it look nicer: it's quite a bit of difference and I didn't notice much performance impact.

If you can't find an official one, you could also get one of the gamestop ones; I have two of those and have worked great on windows (not so much on mac) and an official xbox wired controller. They are way cheaper than the official ones.
Every time I try to come into the thread to thank people for gifts there are 200 unread posts and by the time I read them all I forget what I was coming here to do until a few hours later, when there are a few hundred more posts, and the cycle continues. UNTIL NOW
Thanks @Elin for the ninja gift of Sol Exodus! I was trying to stay low profile this sale, and that lasted, what, 3 hours?
Public announcement for those who are thinking about picking up Dark Souls when it goes on sale: it's awesome, so awesome, but you need a gamepad because the KBAM controls kill a puppy every time you try to use them.

It's got intensely obscure game mechanics. Seriously, I 100% promise you that if you don't consult guides you will create characters that cannot finish all the quests, and you will miss stuff.
Amazing game, but it practically requires study to excel at.

So is Max Payne 3 really as demanding as they said it was. Before it came out I heard it was pretty crazy. I just got a new computer and even more recently a new graphics card, but it still worries me. How's it play? And is it a crappy port?

I found it ran great and my machine isn't massively high end (i5, 8G ram, GTX 560ti)
The game goes on a bit but I think it's worth getting.
So is Steam's Risen 2 sale price of 14.99 too steep? If so, go to Amazon here, scroll to the bottom where they have Risen 1, Risen 2 and Risen 2 DLC on sale for 66% off, which brings Risen 2 to about 7 bucks and the DLC to about 3.33 each.

Nice - thanks, @DoctorArch. Fortunately the reviews of Risen 2 are just bad enough to keep me away and for Risen I have the well-worn, "It's not a Steam code" defense to keep me from purchasing. Whew.

And I'm content with that making my sale, Newell.

The price isn't bothering me, it's just that I'd never even really considered actually playing it before.
This is the best advice.
It's funny because the non-steam person would have no idea what the heck you're talking about. But we all do.

@iolo : Nope, not sure what's going on - shows up as £9.99 for me, and then can be switched to $15.95 in USD. Maybe a UK region lock?
