AC3 America-hate

I'll disclose that I am, in fact, American, but I think my point still stands. When AC3 was announced, I heard one or two people say, "Cool! That's a great period in history and will make the game really unique!" The vast majority of the response I saw in forums was "they're just pandering to Americans, everyone is all 'america, f-yeah', everyone will love this game just because it's in america". So basically the majority is complaining about how much the majority is obsessed with America. To me, especially within the gaming community blind hate for America is wayyy more common than blind love for America.

This is especially seen when people complain that the American Revolution is so historically insignificant (I actually saw a British person post that it had not even been covered in his history classes) so they should have done the French Revolution. Besides the fact that the French Revolution never would have happened without ours, do that many people honestly think the American Revolution wasn't important? Especially in a game series about Templars. The entire conspiracy-theory theme of AC is about the Templars, ie the Illuminati, Freemason, National-Treasure sort of thing. We had to have something in colonial America eventually, just to get some Freemasons involved!

I guess my point/question is, does anyone else feel like it's a bit hypocritical for so many people to hate on a game *just* because it's set in America, while criticizing anyone who likes a game that is set in the US?

P.S. It makes perfect sense for a Native American to side with the rebels. Plenty did, and the British weren't any better to the Native Americans than "we" were. Most of the real persecution was done by the colonizers, (ie, Europeans), and many (not all, but many) of the actual settlers and newly formed Americans got along fine with the indigenous people. I'm tired of people acting like a freaking Holocaust happened when it's just not true.

I haven't seen any of this anywhere. I think you're hanging out with the wrong circle.

Also did they just selectively forget that AC1 was set in the Middle East and AC2 + the spin-offs were set in Italy?

I'm American. Frankly I find the setting boring thus far. Besides, all the NPCs in the game are probably Red Sox fans so fuck 'em. Yankees 4 lyfe.

I should note that I also found Constantinople boring. Or maybe that was just the story in AssRev. Hard to say.

    No, I didn't know.

I guess it's fine then. Boston can have its little teabag parties if it wishes... I guess I have to play a little more.

Wow, you should really read some anthropology/history books. Between disease, the white man's burden, and manifest destiny, Europeans and "Americans" decimated the indigenous population. This is one of the most ignorant and goosey things I've ever read on the forums.

Yeah what America did to the natives in the period immediately following the revolution is as close to a holocaust as was technologically achievable at the time

If anything I love how AC3 pokes fun at how ignorant most people really are about history and how much propaganda colors our interpretation of it.

    I'm also American.

We have a thread for AC3, but honestly I don't see this as a fruitful line of discussion.
