In FFT, you work for it. I feel like I could solo this game seeing as how I'm on fight 8 or 9 and haven't taken a hit yet =p
I noticed a pretty hard wall around level 30. But that's about when you have all the tools unlocked to break the game, so I think it's just the sign that I need to break things.
I'm currently holding off on reincarnating my Killia because I don't have quite enough mana to reincarnate him at Genius level. I can't figure out if the Genius level reincarnate matters or not.

I matters a little, but this time won't matter in the long run.
Just got into the item world for the first time as part of the story. Is there a logical stopping point? For the last 20 floors all of the enemies have been one shots that do zero damage. I'm assuming this changes at some point? Is there any benefit to leveling up this key thing I had to use to get in here?
Also have been disappointed that none of the innocents I put into the key are appearing in the item world. Is that normal?
there's no reason to keep leveling the key as it's not very strong. you want to level your good items, and you can continue to get better items off the bonuses/stealing which you then level for better items.. and that's the cycle of how to break the game.
I got around to recruiting priere and her aptitudes are ridiculous. I always like that they made her becoming an overlord the canon ending.

Enemy levels increase based from the starting level on the item (determined by the rank/rarity). So clearing 50 floors of a rank 1 item that begins at level 2 may get you only up to level 20 enemies. But the same thing for a rank 5 item that begins on level 20 will have you up against level 200 enemies. Those numbers are entirely pulled out of my ass, but that's the general gist. Item growth for clearing levels is similar. Growth is percentage based going from the initial stats.
Does anyone know how emblem growth compares to growth for other types of items? Is it reduced for each individual stat, or do you get the same for everything and emblems are particularly awesome?
In either case, I strongly suggest taking an emblem through the item world if you're starting off.

Emblems aren't penalised for growths, but they start with lower numbers compared to an equivalent-rank armour piece so it's not necessarily better.

Yeah. But they're still pretty good, especially for units like mage knights that want all the stats.

Or if you just want something that can feed easy stats to any recently reincarnated character, regardless of what they are. They're going to need a ton of everything to not be one-shot, whiff every attack, or run out of SP after a few attacks.
After making some progress this weekend (just unlocked item world) i read some of the thread now that it has more context.
Now that i unlocked the bootcamp squad I have no issue reincarnation, and oh god I've been subclassing everyone and I should go and undo them because i'm not unlocking any other classes.
I have about 25 members on my team. I think that is too many right now, because i can't leave anyone behind and i am compulsed to level everyone. I really should just pick, like, 12 of my favorites or whatever and stick to them.
Do only the Overlords get to have Overload skills or will I eventually get to make a generic that can somehow acquire a skill via the character portal or whatever other in-game system they have?

When you beat the game, a bill in the senate unlocks for teaching a generic an overload, but you can only choose an overload from the quasi-generics you pick up along the way who have overload skills (eg Geese, Hedler, Izuna, etc), and there's only one that's passable.
Man why does everyone keep going on about the "ultimate demon technique." What a dumb name...I mean, they're demons. It'd be like if we had the "ultimate human technique." People name their stuff after things unlike themselves, we got monkey style and tiger style and stuff like that. Someone's probably even got a demon technique. It doesn't sound cool when you're just talking about yourself.
urge to buy a switch literally only for disgaea 5 growing....
It's a really good time. I mean it's not like the Switch is going anywhere either, it's something you can wait on, but you could do worse than a multi-hundred hour game to begin with.

Emphasis is supposed to be on the Ultimate, I assume, not the Demon.

Yeah. The name is implying the user stands above all over demons.
I take it I need to get witches/skulls up if I'm going to get good elemental skills on the uber mages. not really sure what good shamans are for, and the dlc classes in general. all 3 look super weak
Well its stupid to say Ultimate Human technique, when humans basically are the only sentient being they know of. Demons know that angels and humans exist as well...so they have to specify.
Alright I'm just not going to bother using the latter three overlords and only roll with the first three plus generics. Maybe some of the dlc characters if I get around to it. The armor knight is also treating me incredibly well now that I know she has a global cover skill.
Yeah, it's probably the style for cool demons. Super demon school.
Plot spoilers
The key to the technique is basically the contradiction of a virtuous demon. So, it's very much a philosophy too.
Ultimate Demon Technique, Final Skill, Avidya Holy Water. Literally killing with kindness. Also dammit it's such a cheesy name.
It does occur to me that more or less the same thing is responsible for the protagonists of 1, 2, and 4 beating the shit out of the final boss (Disgaea is not subtle about good and evil), they just don't rub it into your face for half the game.
I don't remember exactly what the move was called in japanese, but I think it was Star Trek-style buddhism-babble.
Oh, I think it's a lot of busywork, but if you combine evilities from shamans, sea angels, and like, dragons? Moths? You can get something pretty solid.
I have a question about Disgaea stories in general. At what point in the series did it become a story about various planets in a netherworld multiverse?
I've only played 1 and 5, didn't finish the first game but I played a lot of it. It seemed a lot closer to a goofy twist on Christian theology - there is one netherworld (hell), one celestia (heaven), and a human world. Sinners get sent to hell to be tortured/pay for their sins (prinnies). There's at least one part of the game where humans somehow make their way into the netherworld by traveling space/dimensions, but it seems handwavey and still doesn't indicate multiple netherworlds floating in space IIRC.
But right from the start, 5 shows pictures of weird planets in space, presumably different netherworlds. And it's not like each one is a different sort of "hell" either, like Dante's circles of hell or anything, some are just pleasant places to live. Often created/explored/founded by demons somehow, like Toto Bunny. And they have names like Brutall Beast, not just "the netherworld" like in the first game.
Did 2 start this concept? 3 or 4? Or was 5 the one to hit the ground running with this.
Also, was it ever retconned that Laharl's netherworld had a specific name? What about the locations in the other games?
Can someone ELI5 expeditions for me? Is it bad to send an expedition that isn't full? Do you always want to let the expedition run its course, or does it make sense to bring teams back early?
Even in the first game, there were multiple netherworlds and overlords, notably Krichevskoy's rival, with Baal styled as the supreme overlord above the rest.
It seems to be one of the things that make Celestia an actually different kind of thing.
I don't remember if La Pucelle went into that level of detail, since most demons and plot was outside of any form of hellworld.
Yeah, there's a location where Laharl's netherworld sort of connects to Celestia. Or I guess an elevator, basically. The Seraph and other people more or less acts as if that's the only netherworld that matters, and the other one is like actually called "the other one, I guess, whatever".

Edit fuuuuuuck it also didn't save all the character work I did before that. Shit that was like 2 hours
This happened on my PS4 copy too. I normally duck out every 10 levels because I'm too nervous about it happening.

Shamans are for Curse Storm, is the answer.
Well, it's more of a style than a single move, so...
