Trade in that Land Decimator for a Metallia, and be sure to amp her the fuck up.

I'm a little confused about land decimator. I know it taps every unit, and can trigger revenge mode on just about everything....but is it actually suppose to do damage ?

It's the weakest attack skill in the game by a large margin, and it's accuracy is hard-capped at 50%. It's supposed to be used on enemies you're way stronger than.

And double/triple/quadruple cast, just to make sure it nukes the field.

So if i gave metallia land decimator, quad cast in asagi stage while wielding a megaphone, she would get revenge shards and capture a good many of them to turn into extract as well....right?

Premise fatally flawed. Land Decimator is a unique skill to sages, but yes, that's more or less what you'd want to do with a sage if you can get their power high enough.

Metallia's awesomeness for farming extracts is because her Overload is "capture everything on map," so you don't need to deal with the enemy's boosted stats from revenge mode nor boost her nearly as high to capture 'em all. She also has very high natural magic, so is useful for finishing off the uber-Asagi.

    man.... finished main quest.

    1) the story really picks up in a nice way at the end. middle chapters kinda not so great. End was very satifying.

    2) i knew there was alot to do post game. I did not realize there is an entire new chaos dimension version of the game with a whole another tier of gear (as in 1-40 again) that dwarfs even the toppest of regular tier loot. That you pretty much have to grind to even enter (relatively small grind via martial training).... I am close to taking my first steps into the real game. 125 hours into disgaea 5. Man.....

125 is not an efficient run. i treat this game like candy crush. I do 10 item levels here. I do them there. Severely over levels for the main game, but i enjoy the item level grind.

Disgaea 2 actually had three versions of the story maps.

  • azith28azith28 Registered User regular
It could truthfully be said it has infinite versions of maps in the game because the item world is randomly generated.

So i picked up disgaea 4 again at gamestop because it was $3 and i had an urge to play it. It is a really good game. I still want to play 5 but i dont have a switch or ps4. 4 is just really fun to mess around with.

  • KlatuKlatu Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi OiRegistered User regular
Still have to go back to 4 at some point and get all the trophies. I think I burned out working on D4s version of chara world. D5s wasn't much better, but once I figured out how to consistantly get at least 3 in each stat per run, it got better, still grindy though. Only did a sage, main guy and metallia. Couldn't handle more than that, never did beat that fight that starts you in the middle of 4 super baals.

So, I recently picked up Disgaea 1 & 2 on Steam and have been playing through Disgaea PC. Last night I cleared the the second to final map of the story, and the enemies damage output on most of my characters was kind of excessive (Wind Cutter was dealing between 1/3 to 1/2 to most characters not named Laharl, more if they were squishy). And there were a lot of them.

I guess it is about the time that The Grind: The Game begins (for HL and experience), and I should collect some Statisticians to save time in the long run. The 300 cap on those is per character, right?

HL is still relatively tight, and before chapter 13 I decided to hit up the Item World to upgrade a Light Sabre. The NPC said levels 28+ (or something like that), by the time I reached the 10th floor the Item General was already 80 (Laharl was 67) and most of the enemies were around 60+. That sure escalated fast...but the upgrade put its ATK at 497, just below the rank 30 weapon and 1,380,000 HL less expensive (the shop still isn't upgraded enough to let me buy a Laevateinn). Aside from leveling up, what's the most practical way to boost my damage output as I get started?

Disgaea 5 on Switch: I'm at 80 hours and at the point where I need to level an LoC Trap, but you basically have to get 400 kill bonus by level 500 and to do that you need to run the Item World at 20 stars. But i need to max out a bunch of damned characters to do that and geoblasting to max out 49 classes is sooooooooooooooooooooooo boooooooooooooooooooooring.

I couldn't be bothered min/maxing a LoC trap. I just got one "good enough" and dived til I found a duplication bonus stage, hopefully got it and repeat.

I had intended to beat up Baal and the other LoC super boss... but by the time I had finished grinding out the squad, I just went for platinum and left it there. I love these games, but man, the grind can wear you down :)

Optimizing the grind seems like a seesaw between optimizing the stages to level up and upgrading your equipment, especially weapons. Statisticians cap at 300, but another longer term specialist to look for is armsmaster, which caps at 1900 and boosts experience points to weapon mastery. Beyond just unlocking a few new weapon type specific skills, increasing your weapon mastery increases the bonus stats you get from your weapon, at I believe 5% of weapon's stats per mastery level, with a maximum mastery level of 255. Staff mastery also boosts spells above those bonuses, giving a range bonus and I believe up to a 200% spell power bonus when casting spells using a staff.

Getting some offensive stat boosting specialists is a pretty straightforward (if slow) way of accumulating some extra stats, especially if you put them in a weapon on a character with high mastery. Gladiators boost ATK, Teachers MAG, and Marksmen HIT. Also, if you have stat specialists in an item when you kill an item boss, it'll add a boost to the specialist's particular stat to the base item, so a lot of the minmaxing on high end items has you do stuff like fill up a sword with junky gladiators when you go through its item world to maximize the ATK growth from killing the bosses. You'll want to keep a stack of low level stat specialists for whichever types you want to boost on your items.

Ugh, long post written up then discarded, because I realised I was giving @Barrakketh advice for D5 instead of the games he's playing. Instead I'll just say... If you're playing the one I think you may be. Look in to doing world 7-1 over and over. I think that's the world with the succubus and invincibility panels. Just dispatch your 10 units, toss the succubi on top of each other to create a powerful succubus. Throw her around the map until she lands in the only normal spot up at the end. Crowd your units around the succubus and start to hit her. Use your heaviest hitters last to get the most out of the chain attack that you're building up, they'll need all the help they can get as you'll only do minimal damage per hit. It will take a while, but your people get to work on their weapon skills and the guy that gets the killing blow (hopefully you got a group attack when the killing blow landed) will get a nice little xp boost. Do that until you can open up Cave of Ordeals 3 (again, I think) and then use the sword skill that hits 3x3 to powerlevel yourself.

I just beat the game, and have started the post-game.

-I think i'm at around 100 hours? I took my time going through all of the stuff.
-Generic Pirate was my mvp, because Nether Buccaneer is such a ridiculous skill. He ended up being my XP squad leader and also getting my 900 statistician stack.
-This game was so fucking good. First Disgaea i have run through and it so far is my game of the year. Didn't expect it to beat out BoW but man do i love everything about what i've seen so far.
-I haven't touched much of post-game yet. I don't think I want to run everything, once i set out on a specific goal ill go deeper into it.
-Next time a steam sale comes around ill probably pick up one of the previous iterations.

Weird question, but... if I get D5 PS4 from Amazon, do I have any chance of getting the launch artbook? I went all the way to Sawgrass(who had nine 'new copies') only to find they gutted theirs and tossed all the artbooks. :/ That feels like it should be illegal.

What you're talking about is 5-3 (Jotunheim - Terrible Cold). I know the trick for that map, though that isn't the way I'd tackle it...it also isn't time efficient (IMO) except for getting mages access to strong spells.

If you pass four Stronger Enemies bills the monsters on that map are all level 33. Due to some weirdness with how the game calculates experience, a level 99 enemy gives as much experience as one in their 300s. There are enough enemies to give you 2x99 and one 66.

Either stay near the beginning and start stacking (diagonal throws help a lot), or get a tower going and start throwing (I use diagonal throwing for this):

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=970521618
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=970521690
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=970521763

They were all in position on the first turn. The last brawler near the Geo Symbol will throw it one square above the tile at the end and move to the vulnerable tile below it the following turn. The brawler at the end of the bridge can move down one tile so the enemy corral is three tiles long. Any enemies that try to get to get either brawler at the top section get tossed to the end of the bridge where the brawler tosses it into the corral. I'd recommend keeping the Felynes if you can't one-shot them since the Succubus heal their selves with Hip Attack and prolong the process.

You remember the brawler you moved to the green square? Have her lift (no throw, only lift!) the geo symbol so invincibility is removed, lay the hurt on, then cancel her action so she drops the symbol before you end the turn. Repeat as needed.

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=970521859

If you can make it to the final map and have 3x3 attacks Valgipus IV is significantly faster leveling (Corriedale only got one level from all that work, Valgipus IV lets me walk up and Winged Slayer for more experience in less time). Pass Stronger Enemies bills as needed.

The Dark Assembly isn't cooperating with CoO and I'm not trying to undo all the bribing I did yet until I'm ready for some of the bonus bosses that I'll definitely have to pass by force (mainly for convenience of passing Stronger/Weaker enemy bills) :P If they keep stonewalling me though I'll be bringing the hurt soon...

  • KlatuKlatu Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi OiRegistered User regular
Oh, it's not time efficient at all, but it'll get the job done til something better comes along. I actually forgot all about the Felynes on that level, but it's all coming back now. If you stack one of them first, their level advantage means they overwrite the succubus, so they won't heal. I had it down to a science when I played it back in the day, and could get it set up in a few turns.

I just did a tiny bit of google research, seems they fixed the foresight glitch as well, unlucky for you :/

I'm at 120 hours. I have a maxed LoC Trap now (soft capped, and HP isn't maxed out yet, to be fair). It's not "perfect" yet - I'm working on running to floor ~5000 to grab all the unique innocents. Note: If your item is full of innocents when you kill an Item God, you will not even unlock a unique innocent. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm starting to think my Disgaea 5 obsession needs to be put aside because when I close my eyes, all I see are geo panels. Fields upon fields of geo panels, stretching as far as the eye can see...into the far horizon.

I finally bought and am starting to play disgaea 5

only on like the second or third mission but I am inclined to recruit as much as I can afford and never use prinnies... is there a reason I should? and I don't mean something like 'you can grind them to 9999 and then reset them', I'm talking more pressing stuff. not gonna throw my starting prinnies in the trash or anything but I don't enjoy using them, I find them super boring.

(I realize I can do whatever I want I just don't wanna be somehow hurting my game)

also any other general advice will be gladly taken. I started by playing handheld which I'm super happy about because it made me appreciate how beautiful the game is on a bigger screen. the colors are really quite nice! and wow have I missed this game and genre.

Not much reason to use anything in particular. Except some ranged option, but you can just duct-tape some spells to somebody in a pinch.

  • Zombie HeroZombie Hero Registered User regular
You'll eventually get a use for all of the characters you never send on missions, so if you decide to bench your prinnies, keep them around at least. I'm pretty sure i reincarnated my starting prinnies when i unlocked some classes i liked.

There really isn't anything you can do to hurt your game. Play the way you want and don't worry about optimization until you open up the post-game.

edit - I'm a bit confused by the quests that have class level requirements. I guess a male mage isn't really a mage? not sure exactly how the class names function. but I'm not even at sub-classes yet so I am not stressing, just curious.
