and each and every single one of them beat poppy

What most Poppy's do is run the Malphite rune/mastery setup with full Armor and put a point into W first. Done right, you walk into lane with about 75~90 armor depending on whether you get Cloth Armor or not. Then you lane against what you hope is a full AD top champion like Lee Sin or Riven. Sit in the creep lane and farm. When they come anywhere near you Q them in the face.
You'll start winning a couple surprising match ups.
Or you can take Poppy into the jungle, and have ganks that are just a bit worse than Alistar, but become a much better diver once you hit 6.
That's a terrifying thought. They are both perpetual submariners.
When you play in the morning things like that happen because the upper end of normal matchmaking is pretty empty. Also take it as a compliment to your normal elo that you're matched with good players you don't get put into that game if you're THAT far behind those guys in ability.
Welp, that was a routing. My Diamond Mid TF and Diamond Jungle are basically everywhere and shit on every lane. Poor Udyr couldn't even gank without Skarnar appearing out of nowhere.My Plat support Leona never misses a hook or a dead-center ult. Got spoon fed as Kog had a phatom dancer and IE at 19 minutes. Proceeded to 3 shot everyone on their team.
So they're using the stupid dubstep song from the S2 championships on college game day, and now my plans to sit here for lots of hours is ruined because I'm constantly being reminded of League and how I could be playing it.

Zekent claims that Poppy crushes Malphite because of all her magic damage, but you probably have to know what you're doing to pull that off.
So I tried Shyv Jungle the other day, because Jungle was all that was left for me with people calling shit, and I don't really like jungle. I have other jungle champs, but I decided to try Shyv.
Holy fuck that is the most fun I have ever had in the jungle.
Also I just wanted to yell out "RAWR I'M A FUCKING DRAGON" every time I ulted. That was so fun.
I pretty much do type out "/all I'm a bear, I'm a bear, I'm a bear." After every team fight. People get surprisingly obsessed with focusing you if you draw attention to yourself, even when you aren't being rude or anything.

I have several buddies that build Madred's Bloodrazor as a standard item. I've tried telling them that it's a pretty massive money sink and highly situational, but I'm lacking other good arguments. Anyone got some math to help me out?

4% of 2000 health is like... less than 100 or so damage per hit. Rounded down by the 80 odd MR that most people have late game and it'll be hitting for about fourty ish.
As a rough mathsey outline on why it sucks balls to put money into that.
So Zed actually gives Kha'Zix a bit of trouble, even after I broke even and got some ganks Zed and I were neck and neck in CS and his poke is way better.
Ehhhh, I have trouble seeing how Kha'Zix doesn't win that lane. Yeah, Zed's poke is better but thats because Kha has terrible poke, if you abuse your passive winning short trades should be easy and once your six you can probably just go on. Even if he ults you can can just stealth away while it's active then jump him once the mark pops.
I thought so too but nope that poke and E spam when you go to CS keeps Kha'Zix back and if KZ spams W in response he's out of mana soon.
That's when you go to tanky CDR W focus Khazix and just harass Zed to death. Tabi Philo Glacial. Glass Cannon Q Kahzix has some trouble, until he's 2-3 kills up.
Well MR is the biggest thing. Since you want to be shooting at people with huge health pools it's not going to make a big difference if said-person ever thinks to build a Negatrons.
If you're a primarily AD champion then magic damage is not going to be amplified by armor penetration effects (i.e. Last Whisper and runes). So yeah, it's not even all that efficient slot-wise to have a Razor.
EDIT:
To further my argument, note that resistance stats are basically 1% increase in effective health against a type of damage. So you can take red runes amounting to 10 armor reduction. This is basically a 10% increase in your effective damage against enemies. If you combine this with a single Black Cleaver proc, you're up to something like a 25% increase in effective damage (a proc is 15 armor shred).
Play Shyvana and type "RAWR I'M A DRAGON" every time you gank
I'll admit that I did actually type it once.
We had taken all of them out but Soraka, and she was trying to run away. We were in their base, all inhibs down, one turret down, so I decided to just nuke the fuck out of her and ulted into her and killed her.
All chat went something like:

Just let them build dumb items for another week or two and then the patch will hit and they will never be able to build bloodrazor again and the problem will solve itself.
%Crits also have no effect on magic damage, which is another huge source of damage multiplication for adc (e.g. Infinity Edge + Phantom Dancer).
So you can about double frontloaded physical damage and have that slashed by armor or have 4% of their health in damage per hit slashed by magic resistance to ~2% or less per hit. You have to get in a lot of Razor procs to break even.

Once is not enough. I like to try and condition the enemy team to panic when they see the announcement of an impending gank.
