Title's kind of blunt but that's the truth of it.
I'm a freshman in college, live at home, and want to get a job this summer. I'm going to be taking one class which is only offered online in the summer session. I'll only have to physically be on campus one day a week for an hour, leaving a bunch of time I'll just waste otherwise.
I've always thought
"Hey, I like computers and video games! Therefore, I should work somewhere they sell that stuff. Like a Best Buy or Gamestop! Yeah..."
Over the years though I've heard many a horror story about most places like this. Do any of these chains not suck to work for? i.e. horrible corporate policy (like how Gamestop employee's have to ask if you have an EGM subscription every time and try to sell you a membership to their worthless club card)
For those of you familiar with Fry's Electronics, I've been considering them. When I go in there the employee's are so fucking terrible. Just last week I go in, looking for Guitar Hero II. I walk over to the PS2 area and find none. I see the nearest employee, he's watching some kid play an 360 demo unit along with a few other customers. It's fucking Fight Night Round 3 and they stare in awe like it's the next coming of the messiah. So I say to the guy "Hi, I'm trying to find Guitar Hero II...do you guys have any or am I looking in the wrong place?". No acknowledgment, he just keeps watching this kid play Fight Night. Then a few seconds later he just goes "uhm...we're sold out". Let's just say I asked somebody else before I left.
I figure if that guy can get hired all I need to do is make sure to tie my shoes or something before I go to the interview and I'll get the job. The question is do I want to work with these people?
I'm just looking for a job to do over the summer full time and probably drop at the end of the summer. I might keep it on part time depending on my schedule next year but more than likely not.
tl;dr Looking for a summer job, 18, preferably at a place that sells electronics or video games.

Is it at least above minimum wage?
I can deal with the promotions issue, trust me, at this store if I'm just awake I will be a shining star compared to anyone else.
edit:
It's the Burbank store if anyone has worked there in particular. I saw a thread about getting help passing a drug test so I think this is a legal question here. Does Fry's do drug testing? Specifically do they do after hire testing? I know that's illegal in some states.
But yeah basically starting out its shit pay, it can take from 2months(usually only girls can move up this fast) to 8 months to move to actual sales in any department, I've been here about 4 months still trying to claw my way in but we just have way too many salesmen right now.
Once you make sales though, easy sailing, you make $7.50 + commission, and commission comes eassyyy from what i've seen, even the worst salesmen tend to walk away with $300/paycheck(weekly) working 30-40 hrs, the best make anywhere between 600-1000(weekly!).
Only go for Audio/Video or Computer Accessories. Rest of the departments(software, -you have first hand experience with them- Appliance/Telecom, and Custmer Service) are usually full of retards and the job is way boring.
Wear a shirt/tie/slacks for your interview.
