Credit Card - Someone charged 2 WoW subs!

..as the title says: Someone (not sure who) charged 2 WoW subscriptions to my credit card. Is there anyway I can a) get that money back or b) find out what the account names are and try to determine if they belong to shady people I know?

This is saddening/scary, and I was hoping this wouldn't ever happen (unknown charges to my credit card).

What would you do in this case? :<

Contact your credit card company immediately to cancel the card, and look over your last few statements about five billion times to make sure every single charge is something you made, and not something someone else made. The procedure for filing claims will vary depending on the company, so talk to them about it.

Once you've canceled the card and started the process of fraud investigation, send Blizzard an email about this. I don't know if they can do anything or not to help you track them down, but at the very least, they can shut the accounts down.

What if it's my brother? I have a feeling it might be for various reasons (I will be poking around his room/comp to find out if he even has the game installed, etc.). I don't want to press charges or do anything that might permanently damage/hamper him.

If by not doing anything that permanently damages him you rule out a serious beating, you are a better man than I.

If it turns out to be your brother, get the account info and cancel the sub. You'll be out the money, but will not have to deal with cancelling your card and getting a new one. You just have to make your bro pay you back.

You can get your money back and you should.

Just call the Credit Card company. Report the fraudulent charges on your card and cancel it. They will most likely refund you the money unless they find out that the charges made weren't really fraudulent.. then that's a different story.

    Look here for more info
    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/atmcard.htm

    specifically here:
Credit Card Loss or Fraudulent Charges (FCBA). Your maximum liability under federal law for unauthorized use of your credit card is $50. If you report the loss before your credit cards are used, the FCBA says the card issuer cannot hold you responsible for any unauthorized charges. If a thief uses your cards before you report them missing, the most you will owe for unauthorized charges is $50 per card. Also, if the loss involves your credit card number, but not the card itself, you have no liability for unauthorized use.

The first bolded part is for future reference. The second bolded part applies to you (even if it was your brother). I persionally wouldn't worry about getting your brother arrested, but if it does bother you, just tell him what you're intending to do.

    Hope this helps

If all that doesn't work you can also try issueing a chargeback on the two transactions. You have up to 6 months to issue the chargeback so I would say try the other routes people mentioned first. Where it is Blizzard who charged the card I find it more likely that someone you know snagged your card and used it as i'm pretty sure blizzard has some solid checks in their system so that they need more then just a credit card number and a name.

Just as a quick aside -- I had an old WoW account reactivated by a mystery person, using an apparently stolen credit card, so it does happen.

OKay. Small update, and I'd like to thank you guys for all the infos thus far.

Seems like it was two people in my household who's accounts got reactivated, on the 7th and 14th of this month. However, it isn't likely that these two people (my brother and uncle) did this themselves. I poked around on their computers and WoW isn't installed for the first thing. Second thing is that their last login times were months and months ago. If I was going to go through the trouble of stealing someone's credit card to activate my WoW sub, I'd probably be playing it within the first week of doing so, at least. Or have it installed.

Sooooo.. I doubt it was them.

I think it's an error on Blizz's part and I will be calling them as soon as we reach business hours. Especially if they haven't logged in (and won't) since "resubscribing" it will be an open-shut case of giving me my money back.

    I'll let you guys know.
    Thanks again.
