Hi 3DS thread. My wife just gave me one of these bad boys as a gift with New Super Mario Bros. 2. Really enjoying it, and the hardware seems really slick. But what is up with the Netflix app? I can't link it to my account, and no text shows through. When I start it up I just have yes/no buttons which I assume are asking if I am already a member. I click yes, get a code, and put it in at netflix.com/activate. Then I wait while nothing happens. I have tried deleting the app and trying again with the same results.
Also, how do I link my 3DS account to my Wii account? I've got some points there, and I really don't want 2 accounts if I can help it. Thanks all!
Can't help you with the Netflix stuff. As for your question about the 3DS and Wii accounts, you can't transfer points between them. Sorry. You can link them both to the same Club Nintendo account but there's no real interaction between systems.

So, I bit the bullet and pulled the trigger on a red 3DS XL. My friend code is 4227-0737-7846. I don't have a ton of games yet, but you should still add me!
I believe the plan is for the 3DS to get hooked up to the new Nintendo Network at some point, so hopefully within the year we'll be able to use one account for both devices... and maybe even share friends lists!
Nah, that'd be too awesome.
Want to find me on a gaming service? I'm SwashbucklerXX everywhere.
So I finally got off (on?) my ass and 100%'ed Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.
If you're anything like me, you beat the campaign, thought, "Damn that was a good game," and then put it down because 35-40 hours was quite enough content to keep me from immediately jumping into the skirmish mode.
Anyway, I'm just throwing it out there that if you haven't beaten the skirmish missions, you definitely should check them out when you start getting that Shadow Wars itch again. Treat them as a second campaign, if you like, and beat them in chronological order as I did.
I mention this specifically because:
--Most of the skirmish missions have completely different rule-sets that are unlike anything you completed in the campaign. The objectives are varied, and losing a ghost seldom means game over.
--Some of these rule sets are incredibly fun and offer in-mission character progression. E.g., Killing enemies on this mission allows you to select better upgrades for your units. E.g. 2., Survive each wave. Between waves, select a new unit to add to your squad to bolster your defense
--Some missions have a tower defense-feel to them. Another is quite literally a variant of DOTA (Your AI-controlled engineers take the left lane, their engineers take the right lane. The first team to have 4 engineers reach the command room wins the game. This mission alone took me over an hour).
--Some missions make the hardest missions in campaign look like a piece of cake, and will seriously test your skill level. There are two in particular that are hour+ missions that are INCREDIBLY difficult. We're talking 'save between every single turn difficult' amidst a mission that can literally take 40+ turns to complete.
i was thinking about picking that up after the holidays since amazon's normal price for it is in the $10 range. the images i've seen kind of remind me of frozen synapse.
Wow, that was both crass and stupid. And pointless, must not forget pointless.
I would explain to this idiot the thousand and one reasons he's wrong, but I wager he'd just put his fngers in his ears and hum "La-dee-da I can't hear youuuuuuu."
I'm not sure the "Mickey's now politically correct and safe and thus boring" angle is particularly pertinent to the legitimate issues Power of Illusion has.
As a matter of fact, the most egregious issue seems to be the fact that the game tries to emulate the spirit of the old "Illusion" games so faithfully that it brought back the slow, plodding movement that not a whole lot of people like. If anything, Power of Illusion is undone by its orthodox adherence to gameplay mechanics from way, way back when, mechanics that weren't particularly enjoyable then and aren't now. I'm not sure where the "Politically Safe Soulless Abomination" angle fits into this.
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
So how's the actual game? And what's the chance it will get Japanese localization?
It's not bad, though I only had a chance to play for about a half hour yesterday. It plays almost exactly like Zelda 2. Can't give a really full review yet though, but I will say that it does have some pretty charming writing, but it's pretty obvious that it's a DS up-port (which is pretty evident given that there's a DS version). It's a pretty low budget game, but it has some nice sprite work but would've loved some voice acting.
Edit: And I have no idea about a Japanese localization. My guess is no at this point.

Is it just me or is the most disturbing thing you have ever seen in a video game, the scene in world 4-1 when birdo arrives singing 'the love of woman, the love of man` then gives you a goat?
Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan is hitting North America on February 26, 2013. The initial production batch will come will a limited edition art book and music CD.
A sample of the art book can be found here. The book will feature imagery from the game, as well as a brand new piece of art for the North American audience crafted by illustrator Alexandra Douglass.
The “Rough Drafts & Outtakes” CD is made up of early arrangements composed by Yuzo Koshiro along with tracks that did not make it into the final game.
Atlus has also confirmed that Etrian Odyssey IV will be available on the eShop when it launches next year.
I'm getting a 3DS XL from my brother who is spoiled with a rent-free arrangement and gets all kinds of fun gadgets and then tires of them. I am very excited. Such a wonderous backlog of excellent games to work through between 3DS and DS games. I have a list. It currently has 55 items. My Adventure Time Collector's Edition should arrive in the mail any time now. Joy!

I don't know why it should, but it absolutely delights me that the little text noise blips are from the game of whoever is talking. Maybe I'm just weird like that.
Exploration and puzzles look to be straight out of Layton... I guess we're up to 5 now?
Should be a hoot to see if there are classic PW courtroom bits as well.

Amazon finally delivered Paper Mario. The number of 3DS games I have is really starting to get out of control...
Anyone else on here buy Zelda II from the VC today? I did and it isn't showing up on my Club Nintendo account like it normally does. Wondering if it is just because it's Thanksgiving or something.
So Target has the 3DS XL for $175.... This seems like a decent deal, but not great. (for example you can get an AssCreed Vita bundle for $178, that I would consider a great deal) I'm wondering if we'll see better by the time Monster Hunter comes out. (I'm looking for a $200 or less 3DSXL with a game bundle such has NSMB2 or MonsterHunter itself.) Should I buy or wait? Keep in mind I already have a 3DS, I just don't play it much due to ergonomic issues and batter life.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

The Target and I think... Best Buy? 3DS deals were great. So there was actually a second line, separate from the regular Black Friday line to go for one of those at my stores. It was near twice the length. I did not get one, suffice to say...
So I got my 3DS last year with the sweet looking Zelda bundle, didn't do much with it. Even got Super Mario 3D Land for Christmas last year. I didn't start playing it till yesterday... Holy shit this game is tits. It singlehandedly justifies the 3D mode and gameplay wise is like the perfect cross between Super Mario 64 and New Super Mario Bros. The shorter linear levels also make it the perfect format for a portable Mario as well.

Yeah, it's pretty damn awesome. Designed to bridge the gap between the 2D and 3D Mario games.

In that case, make it 3.

The 3DS is region locked. You would need to buy PAL region games.
