I mean in the sense of "These 3DS titles are so good that buying a DSLite just for GBA games would be a silly move"

DSLite gets GBA/DS and 3DS gets 3DS/DS - which is the overall stronger library, in your opinions?

You can get an SP for like $30 on Amazon. Do that and then buy a 3DS for new stuff.

Oh another question, is the XL region locked?

I can only seem to find Adventure Time and Monster Tale in the US.

Hmmm, so I can't play DS imports either. That's kind of crappy.

So I plan to get all the Professor Layton games I can get as these games are the main reason I want the 3DS (Yes I know most are DS games). I am ambivalent to JRPGs. What other games, 3DS or DS, should I look into adding to my list of games to own?
My absolute favorite DS game is Picross DS. And my favorite GameBoy game, Mario's Picross, is available on the eShop.

No DS games are fine. It can't magically enforce a region lock on games that previously didn't have one!

Well, I suppose they technically probably could, but that would just be being a dick for the sake of it.

All DS games are playable, regardless of the region of your 3DS. There appear to be no region-free 3DS games, though, so make sure the games you want are available (or will become available) in your region. If you're in Europe, I imagine that most English games will eventually make their way over to you.

Out of curiosity, how many Phoenix Wright games are there in the US? I have the one on my iPhone but I don't know how that relates to DS ones since I guess its not the full game?

There are 4 main games, 2 spin offs (though we only got 1 outside Japan) and a 5th main game in the works.

So far I have a list of 18 DS and 3DS games I would like to play if I buy that 3DSXL bundle. That is more games than I have for my PS3. I think we might be good to go.

An aside, has anyone played the DS games, Hotel Dusk, and Last Window? I saw them while looking up Phoenix Wright on Amazon and they looked like neat detective games.

I don't think so. Even if she did I had no idea I could buy games with anything other than money. What are club coins, and how do I get them?

Hotel Dusk is cool, the detective could be less of a wuss though. Last Window isn't available in the US, but with region free I suppose you could still get it. I do think Time Hollow and 999 are vastly superior games in a similar style though.

make an account then there should be a paper that came with your system and all nintendo games and a lot of 3rd party ones with a big mario hat on them and a code. you get coins for registering everything and more coins for taking a followup survey.

then they have rewards you can "buy" with those coins. it seems like they have 1 wiishop game and 1 3ds shop game available at any given time for about a month or so before changing them.

I dug Hotel Dusk quite a bit. It's kinda draggy, but I thought it did some original things with the adventure genre.

I would also strongly recommend 999.

Last Window had me scratching my head for a long-ass time. It had some pretty sweet twists too!

Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.

I got a little excited when I saw your ship.

Seconding the 999 recommendation. Really great game.

I bought VLR but haven't had the time to try it yet.

Oh nice. Last time I was there was before I had a 3DS so I bought a set of LoZ posters. I'll have to go register my stuff and see what I can afford. Thanks!

Hotel Dusk was pretty cool. Nothing spectacular but solid adventure material.

    Other adventure goodness:

Trace Memory ('Another Code' in the US) - Short but sweet and nice DS hardware based puzzles.
999 - Visual novel style with room escape sequences. Very, very good.
Time Hollow - Animoo out the wazoo but a nice adventure.
Touch Detective - Cute and very odd. Has a sequel.
Flower Sun and Rain - Suda 51 mindfuck. I absolutley loved it, many people won't, do your research first!
Layton - I hopefully need not say more.

A friend of mine had me play Hotel Dusk which I found fun. A few weeks later he got a different guy to play it. That guy's comment after playing it was, "Man, this game is pretty cool. I can't wait until I get my gun!"
