What exactly happened with the Doc? Massive piracty issues?
I think it's more the problem of, who is going to be purchasing it after release? I'd imagine most of the people online who wanted to purchase it were aware of the kickstarter, and did it then.
So, for someone to purchase it after release, they would need to be aware of it, and want to purchase it, but not have been aware of it or wanted to purchase it during the kickstarter. That last part is the problem, knowledge of the kickstarter seemed to spread rather fast and wide online. which means in order to get much in the way of sales after release, they essentially have to find people outside of the online communities who would want to purchase it, which is much harder to do.
And they didn't really have much of a chance of stopping it from being uploaded, since all it takes is a single person sharing it, 99.9% compliance isn't good enough. You can try to persuade people on the download end not to pirate it, and you can get some of those to do so, but you're never going to prevent it from being available, and it's sort of absurd if that was the expectation. And it still doesn't help to stop the piracy if you don't have people to purchase it. I didn't pirate it, but I didn't buy it either, and if I had intended to, I would have done so during the kickstarter, so that doesn't help them at all.
I think that the only people who expected substantial post-kickstarter sales were the people making the documentary. All the sponsors were assuming that their sponsorship was the entire budget for everything being offered, and were surprised to be told after the fact that it wasn't, and that the shortfalls were going to come out of features that they thought they had already purchased.
I went to that Nightmare Nights site, huh, it doesn't sound like any of those brony things and in fact they don't even type that word there.

We welcome collectors, animation fans, and cosplayers of all generations, and hope to provide a fun & safe event for everyone and help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to boot."

Sadly spot on. I don't download content as I like to own it, as in having a box, putting it in my collection and having it instantally available in the best quality. People at my place of work watch downloads on their lunch break and whatnot, and when I see the quality I can't believe it. It's nowhere near DVD quality (let alone Blu Ray) there is some dodgy green water mark in the bottom left, the audio sounds compressed... all for the sake of saving $20? I just can't understand that mentality as all those people huddled around a tiny laptop screen (that's another thing) all earn good money.
I also don't understand the mentality of the uploaders of content. They get nothing out of it, so are they really that bored? Do they not have a gf or a friend to turn round to them and suggest they do something more constructive with their time than wreck somebody else's hard work and cause problems for people? I know a guy on another forum (well, some Indian chap who just posts there) who uploads a truck load of footage, and he claims he has people working for him. He can barely speak English and I think it's disgusting he brags about uploading independent productions - just a jackass mentality if you ask me. What is there to be proud about taking food off somebody else's table to enable a bunch of thieves to get a free low rent copy of a film? This particular guy says he makes money from uploading - I can't see how this is possible either?
On the piracy front, I understand governments and industry leaders are working to stamp it out as much as possible - but I honestly can't see why they can't do more. Are the Pirate Bay people still in jail? You know, the people who think they were some sort of saviours?

Considering it's only one month after both DragonCon AND AWA I think I'll be the only person there. I really want to know what the hell the organizers were thinking.
For those who need the context here, I've never been to AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) but I know it's huge. But Dragon*Con is literally THE largest popculture/nerd/geek/etc. event in the American Southeast. I think it was 50,000 people last year, covering four days of Labor Day weekend. The organizers have a standing contract with five hotels in Midtown Atlanta-FIVE. HOTELS. To host the events. The hotels sold out this year fifteen minutes after they opened up. I will repeat: five hotels. Dragon*Con sells lifetime admission passes for $1,500 and people buy them.
There was a HUGE Brony presence at Dragon*Con last year and there will be one again this year, I'm sure. And that is the con that people are going to be flying in for from across the country, etc. Absolutely no one who isn't local is going to come to a specialized Pony event a few weeks later, except maybe the folks who... REALLY ARE INTO My Little Pony, a.k.a. the part of the fandom everyone else wants to avoid.

Looking more closely at the date it seems it's farther away from DragonCon than I originally thought but it's still really close to AWA which draws 15,000 a year. Hope they aren't expecting a big turnout.
So Andy Price (the current artist for the pony comics) was at Unicon and drew a couple of neat pictures.
Fire Alarms went off, so he drew a Fire Alarm pony.

Family friendly? This might actually work out...
The significance is that he's probably kidding about the goons.
Or you're talking about context. I'm guessing he's at the Vegas con.
What on earth is going on with this con....
I think this might have been an early red flag as to how organized @Las_Pegasus_Uni was #voiceactor pic.twitter.com/HKyXYiaoW5
@chalupatime @Las_Pegasus_Uni It would seem that the actual staff bailed; they're not even the ones handling the donations.
@Cat_Whitney
To the folks who weren't even here who are trying to blame @EverfreeNetwork for the @Las_Pegasus_Uni issues - they actually SAVED THE DAY.
