My computer's touchpad has gone insane

Pipe DreamerPipe Dreamer Registered User regular
So a few hours ago this afternoon, my computer's touchpad suddenly decided that it was being permanently left-clicked. Any attempt to move the cursor would result in highlighting or click-and-dragging. I tried rebooting, reinstalling the driver, and (in a last-ditch attempt) doing a factory reset, none of which solved the problem.

My computer is an ASUS Zenbook UX31E. Is there anything else I might be able to do to salvage the situation? I've contacted ASUS support but was put on hold for half an hour and I didn't have time to wait any longer, though I would try again tomorrow. I'd also love it if somebody could give me some idea of what to expect in terms of money/time if I do end up having to send it back in, which I suspect I will. The computer is still under warranty.

(And yes, obviously the short-term solution is to use a mouse, which I'm going to get tomorrow.)

So do you mean that you have a button for left-click and it's constantly being held down? Or does it seem like it's the tapping function of the touchpad maybe? Because you could try to wedge something thin (toothpick maybe?) underneath the button to maybe pop it up enough to make it stop, or clean the touchpad in case it's somehow constantly reading a fingertip on it. I dunno, that's my thoughts.
