Is anyone going the screen protector route on this guy?
I've been using 'em on all my DSes back to my original Electric Blue model and I can't imagine owning a DS without one...but I dunno how I feel about them with the Gamepad.
I'm absolutely going to be but then I have cats.

So, enjoying ZombiU a great deal so far. I never had a Wii or played anything from that console's lineup. With the backwards compatibility, can anyone recommend some good Wii titles to grab?
Xenoblade....Mario Galaxy 1 & 2....Xenoblade....Donkey Kong Country Returns....oh, and Xenoblade.
So I finally checked out all of the stuff on the WiiU. The interfaces for everything are all really good!

I have a question that someone will hopefully be able to answer.
I'm looking to transfer all of my stuff from the Wii to the Wii U. If I load all my VC games onto an SD card and delete them from the system, and THEN do the transfer, can I load them back onto the Wii U after the transfer has been completed?

Aside from Xenoblade (which is really the best game on the system by far) and those you mentioned:
-Zelda: Skyward Sword
-Metroid Prime 3
-The Last Story
-Kirby's Epic Yarn
-Probably way more I am forgetting

I'm thinking I'm gonna take my chances this time. Worst case scenario if this one happens to get really dinged up somehow, I'll purchase a new gamepad (assuming they're available for purchase by the time this one gets dinged) and sell off the original one.

It transfers your purchasing history so you can re-download them on the Wii U emulated Wii shop thingy.
You can't transfer them from the SD card to the Wii U I don't believe though. It just does one massive dump of the Wii's flash drive onto the SD card and then Wii U grabs that and unwraps it (which takes forever for some reason).

I'm not positive but I want to say it's not smart enough. I *think* it has to re-authorize everything for the Wii U console, so the old Wii saves/etc don't work. If you can transfer the saves to your Wii, they will transfer over just fine though.
I'm planning on keeping my Wii around so the wife can watch Netflix while I play games... plus it plays GC games. So I'm wondering if I should even bother doing the transfer or if I should just rearrange things and stack the two sensor bars.

My problem is that my Wii crashes when it gets to about 30% transferred and Nintendo wants $107 to repair it. I'm hoping that if there's less data to transfer (almost nothing) that it'll get through it before crashing and bypass the bad sector of it's memory.

Think about what you just said here. You're going to pass on a 7$ filter to buy a 80$+ dollar controller possibly in the future. I'm not a huge fan of filters or anything but SEVEN BUCKS.

Save games are really small. You might be ok with those.
Honestly that's probably the only thing you need to save. You can re-download everything else. You may want to clear out your Mii Plaza if you are looking for less stuff to transfer since it *will* transfer your Miis (for use in the Wii emulated thingy - so when you run Wii Sports or whatever you can see them)
Love the gamepad. I like the fact that I can enjoy my HDTV or chill out in another room with it. The complete lack of lag (that I can notice) makes it feel a little like magic.
Moving back to the Wii U menu is the slowest thing since a PlayStation 3 update. It's a little thing but I may have uttered a Gob-esque "COME ON!" once or twice.
Unless they seriously speed up the installation process I'm not sure I'll be buying downloadable titles again. A one hour install for Epic Mickey 2 was extremely disappointing. Outside of the insane day 1 patch, I wasn't expecting to wait that long for my console to do anything ever again. I was wrong.
Any word on getting the Euro Xenoblade game to work on the WiiU in the US yet? It's the only version I was able to get. I was hoping the Wii BC stuff was software based and I wouldn't have to do anything.

But if the Gamepad controller retails for $80 and I sell mine for $65, I'm out like $15.
...fine I'll see what Toys R Us has on the way home.

You'll have to use home brew again. It doesn't work yet, but it's close.
I decided against this system until I'm in a better financial state but I would just like to know something. Can you use the pro controller to play Wii games that were able to use the classic controller?
From what I've read, no.
Wii mode is essentially rebooting the system as a Wii, and it won't do anything that a Wii won't do.
I'm thinking it'll be easier for me to just keep my Wii (especially since Gamecube compatibility isn't included at all)
Well, that's just ridiculous. It basically has the same layout as the classic controller, why would they do that?

Because emulating Wii would cause all kinds of problems. It's easier to just make the system into a Wii than sorting through bugs that crop up in the thousands of titles available for the system :P

WiiU Gamepads are $140 right now, who knows what they're retail when they actually get sold in stores.
Finally tried a Wii game on the Wii U. I know I'm not the only one curious to see if there was any benefit to the games running through HDMI versus Component.
I tried Skyward Sword and, according to my reports, there is a minimal difference. Colors seem slightly more vibrant and less saturated, and a few textures looked slightly...better (I don't want to say "sharper", just better).
YMMV depending on TVs and such, but it's better than nothing. Don't know why they couldn't just run the whole thing higher than 480p though. An upscale still would have seen a noticeable difference.
I came here just to ask this. Extremely disappointing considering early on they said they would include upscaling support.

Well fuck, I don't even want to touch the goddamn thing now. I hate when I do this. I did it with the DS too. I prevented myself from playing the thing until I could find screen protectors because I didn't want to fuck it up.
As much as I love and would prefer Hori I guess I'm just settling for whatever I find tonight.

Hard on your stuff? I played with it all day yesterday and it was fine. Screen seems pretty tough.
I am totally bummed that Wii games only play on Wiimote and classic controller. Such a cumbersome setup and really kinda ruins them for me. I was looking forward to playing some Xenoblade with a real controller.

If you want to wait for a Hori (I would; I've used lots of screens and nothing is even half as good as theirs) just wrap your finger in toilet paper. The BF did that with his iPad and it worked fine. The major time it'll get dinged is when you're NOT using it so just put it back in the box in between uses.
