Has anyone heard of Ambery.com? Was poking around online last night, and I ran into this: http://www.ambery.com/2hddodtsdihd.html. Little pricey, but splitting the HDMI to have optical audio out would be worth it for me if this is a legit site.
If your games run out of stock, put that shit up digitally.

I've been hoping really hard that Xenoblade becomes one of the first Wii games to be put up digitally. Not only does it forever solve the problem of finding a copy, it gives the game some extra exposure for early Wii U adopters looking to try it out on the e-Shop.
Assassins creed also runs very well. I have two annoyances though: when playing, the pad has all of your UI elements so you can keep the tv clean. This is awesome, but the control display shows the wrong buttons frequently. Just as one example, when you need to reload a musket, it says to hold the R button, but you need to hold X.
This is an AC3 issue actually. You have to tap the R button to begin reloading. Pressing the shoot button will also start the reload, which is the behaviour you are noticing.
This annoyed me a lot when I began the game.
And it says to hold R to reload but that opens the weapon menu.
This has literally been the only commentary I've read about the Wii U version. Would you happen to know how it performs compared to the PS3/360 versions? Does the touchscreen take care of the equipment-swapping problem (a long menu transition)?

Really curious about this version.
According to 1UP it's not really better or worse. It solves some of the control/interface issues but not completely enough to make it much better. It has all of the same bugs as the other versions for the most part, which a patch addresses at least a chunk of.
I haven't beaten Xenoblade yet but what I've played so far is stellar. If I were to compare it to The Last Story I'd say that Xenoblade doesn't necessarily flow as well (although it has an interesting story) but The Last Story misses out on some innovations with regards to questing, tutorials, etc. To me they are both Must Play.
You know what I do when a game is fucking great but doesn't end? I keep playing it until it ends.
Eventually I just get bored and don't want to play anymore. I'm level 72, but everything around me is levels 74-75, so there is no way I'm going to be able to beat any boss that comes my way and I just really don't like the battle system nearly enough to go grind out another 4+ levels.
Can someone sell me on why I need to buy a Wii U? Cause I have the feeling that at some point later in this holiday season I'm going to feel the urge to buy the system at which point it won't be easily available to purchase. But I currently don't see what would drive me to buy the system right now.
Black Ops has a pretty convenient feature that lets you change your controller setting using the touchscreen anytime during gameplay. It's much nicer than having to go into the menu to make some minor adjustments over and over again. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Nano Assault Neo is a good deal of fun, too. The difficulty ramps up pretty fast in area 3, so if it seems too easy at first just give it some time.
Finally tried a Wii game on the Wii U. I know I'm not the only one curious to see if there was any benefit to the games running through HDMI versus Component.
I tried Skyward Sword and, according to my reports, there is a minimal difference. Colors seem slightly more vibrant and less saturated, and a few textures looked slightly...better (I don't want to say "sharper", just better).
YMMV depending on TVs and such, but it's better than nothing. Don't know why they couldn't just run the whole thing higher than 480p though. An upscale still would have seen a noticeable difference.
I came here just to ask this. Extremely disappointing considering early on they said they would include upscaling support.
From what I read, it actually does upscale to 1080p. It's not doing it prior to the image being rendered internally, but it is doing it as it outputs to the TV.
Or a simpler way to put it, it won't look like it does in an emulator, basically it's like putting the 480p screen in Photoshop and resizing it there.
This is actually better than nothing and should be noticeably smoother.
This. Zombie U is what will make or break the Wii U deal for me. Is it really demon souls and so much more? Im waiting on more internet reviews but after hearing the magic words: Demon Souls with zombies. My interest on buying the console early has peaked, by a lot.
Ok sorry wasn't specific enough... I need a reason that I can convince my wife with. And with kids 6 and 4 yo ZombiU doesn't pass that test. lol.
My wife was a little irked that I bought one. But then I set it up and started playing NSMBU. Next thing I know she's on her laptop looking up other games and begging me for a turn to play.

It's basically Resident Evil (old school) + Demon Souls mixed into a game.
I'm not sure Demon Souls is really the right comparison here. The main similarities is that they both punish death and have oppressive atmospheres where you need to always be paying attention. But the actual core gameplay is much different.

Yeah. The GameSpot review I watched really focused on the gameplay. They said it was repetitive and boring. Your best bet is to lure zombies one at a time and kill them with a cricket bat. Every time.
I don't know how accurate that is, or if that's just the way they played, but it doesn't sound particularly compelling.

I don't understand the demon souls comparison
I read our zombieu thread and I'm more interested than I was before, but I don't see how that comparison is reasonable... it's just that it's hard right? and you'll die a lot?

You gain levels when you kill shit with weapons (other than the cricket bat). You also find upgrade items to upgrade your weapons (Faster Attack Speed/Reload/etc). You can carry a limited amount of stuff. When you die you spawn back again but you can go and kill your old zombie self to get your stuff back that was in your bag. Taking one zombie at a time is the best way to survive but you can also shoot them if you have the ammo to spare. You can use flares to distract zombies and run by them. You can barricade doors if you have wood and a hammer. You can move some bookcases in front of doors to block them as well.
@Renzo you know not to listen to GameSpot. They are filled with lies.
Well both games also kind of have that whole "you can never truly pause the game, you have to watch your back at all times and be completely sure it is safe before messing around with inventory or whatever, or the monsters will fucking murder you" thing going for them.
Basically the comparison has a lot to do with how careful you have to be and how you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times.
There is a score that shows up when you beat the game and that score goes up on a leaderboard. Keeps track of how long you played and how many times you died (I believe).

Not accurate at all. I haven't found it repetitive at all. And while I have used the cricket bat a fair amount to conserve ammor or not make noise I have also used guns, grenades etc plenty of times. It does totally remind me of dark souls/demon souls. Not just the hard difficulty but also the sense of exploration and opening of short cuts etc.

ah okay, that's more reasonable than I thought, thanks to you both.

I just bought that, plus the MotionPlus controller. Got Skyward Sword and Last Story off of Amazon.

Also just look around your local gamestops. I bought mine just a couple weeks ago and a half dozen stores within 30 minutes of me had a copy.
P.S. I love RPGs, but I did not like Xenoblade chronicles at all. I know that makes me a heather, but so be it.

Oh just kidding it keeps going for another ten hours. Then it ends.
Oh wait, nope another 10 hours. Then it ends.
Nope, just kidding!
Eventually I just gave up on it and read the Wiki.

If you're okay with the Basic Unit I don't think you'll have much trouble at all tracking one down.
Deluxe might be a bit more difficult.

yeah, I want a deluxe. I only really need it for MH, so I can wait. Id like to play ZombieU though.
You are a terrible person.
You know what I do when a game is fucking great but doesn't end? I keep playing it until it ends.
If you'll forgive my rampant pimping of this, I've only given one other RPG a perfect score this gen.

I honestly have no clue how close I am to the end...but I'm clocking in at seventy hours so far.

I really like Xenoblade! It just needed to fucking end! It was just way too long.

Both multiplayer and good family fun.

I wonder if I can finally buy Megaman 10 and not have to worry about input lag of scaling 480i to 1080p
