Anyone gotten Skylanders:Giants for Wii U? I'm not sure if I want to start that crack habit but I do is the Wii U version the one to get?
They've said somewhere that the WiiU version has extra bells and whistles but I've never been able to track down exactly what those would be. And yeah, if you start you're looking at 200+ more bucks later. You won't have a choice; it'll happen with or without you aware of it.
I read our zombieu thread and I'm more interested than I was before, but I don't see how that comparison is reasonable... it's just that it's hard right? and you'll die a lot?
It's hard, methodical, enemies will brutalize you if you let a group get too close and the death system is unique in that when you die, that character is dead and gone. When you respawn, you start as a new character and have to get to the corpse of your predecessor to get your gear.
Very rogue-like in it's death system. Similar concept to bones/bloodstain being left behind.
I'm not sure Demon Souls is really the right comparison here. The main similarities is that they both punish death and have oppressive atmospheres where you need to always be paying attention. But the actual core gameplay is much different.
Yeah. The GameSpot review I watched really focused on the gameplay. They said it was repetitive and boring. Your best bet is to lure zombies one at a time and kill them with a cricket bat. Every time.
I don't know how accurate that is, or if that's just the way they played, but it doesn't sound particularly compelling.
yes, that's your best bet and yeah it would be boring...
unless they somehow have more then one zombie come at you at once but how would they ever do that
The video made it seem like a viable tactic, but I was curious if they just kind of sucked at it or didn't really try to get good.
I lost track of it in the thread, but is it Target that's doing a buy one game get one 40% off right now? I was planning on sticking to NSMB and NintendoLand, but I'm thinking about grabbing Scribblenauts as well if the co-op is a good time.

Target is doing Buy 2 Get 1 50% off.
Toys R Us is doing Buy 1 get 1 40% off.
Edit: Sonic Racing is supposedly really good if you're up for a fourth title to do two pairs of "B1G140%" titles.
Anybody enjoying any of the individual games enough to spin out official topics for them? ZombiU, get the word out if it really is better than reviews are saying, or Scribblenauts Unlimited, or whatever?

Thanks! Any opinions out there on Scribblenauts? I'd probably wait if there wasn't a deal on, and the single player isn't especially a draw for me, but it seems like the sort of thing that would be great with the right combination of friend(s), alcohol, and absurdity.
Edit: I got the deluxe system (which still hasn't arrived!) so Nintendo Land is already a go, but Sonic Racing does have some appeal. I haven't touched a kart racer in like two generations of consoles. Sadly, think I'll have to hold off for now.

I haven't dug into it enough, but while the wife and I were racing together, I stopped for a second and realized: "Holy crap. We're doing versus mode racing, and we both have a screen to ourselves." It was a revelation.

Just to play it safe I'll wait for a Gametrailers review...
Gametrailers review is playing it safe? I've found them oddly lacking recently especially towards Nintendo. I was surprised they gave Mario such a high score. Wasn't surprised by Nintendo Land's low score. Constant contradictions across their review. One thing they like in one game gets completely slammed in another. I get it's different reviewers and that but you'd think they'd have some consistency.

ZombiU is a day one pick up at the girlfriend's request. I was going to go with mario but she reckons it's too cool to pass up.

If the "Two Gamepad" mode pans out well I can imagine 2v2 team-based games being nice with one team sharing the TV and the other team each with gamepads, assumedly in another room or in an area out of the line of the sight of the TV.
I need to get out of hype mode lest I destroy my bank account. It would help if the Wii U didn't have so many games I wanted right off the bat. Gamecube was probably the last time it felt like I needed more than a single game or two.
It also doesn't help that my parents continue to enable my infantilism as I approach my thirties by giving me video games for Christmas, so I could save myself some cash with even the tiniest amount of restraint.
For anyone in Canada looking to find one in the wild, a good spot to check is Shopper's Drug Mart. I called around and while they only got a couple that sold out fully on launch day, they didn't fly right off the shelves in 5 minutes like everywhere else I called.
If you have an Optimum Card you could potentially save a whackload off it.
I've never played Demon Souls but I may just have to now.
it's fantastic
on top of the awesomeness of the difficulty, the entire feel of the game is just brilliant.
my nintendoland doesn't have a code in it to register w/ club nintendo. and I'm just 70 coins away from gold! eeeep.
I'm fairly certain the game will be registered as part of the bundle and you get the coins for it.
Ok, here's the scoop I got from the Nintendo support line yesterday when I called about this. Apparently Nintendo is doing bundle registrations differently going forward.
I was told that the Nintendo Land bundled code is triggered by the system registration. Once you've registered your system and linked your account to the console it will register the game to your purchases on the back-end for your points.
I told the guy I was a but leary of this process and he indicated that if for some reason I don't get the product registration for Nintendo Land, I can cut the UPC symbol off the package (really not happy about this idea) and physically mail it into them explaining that I'm missing my registration code. They will then register it for me on the back-end. Ultimately he said wait 7-10 days after I register my system to see if everything is ok and if it doesn't show up to call them back first.
For the record, I think this is a bogus story. Nobody there seemed to have a clue about the game not having a registration code included and at first he was treating it like an anomolly. He had to put me on hold twice to do some checking. I politely told him that given the fact that they are showing a +70 point registration bonus for this title on the site and it's clear nobody got a registration code, they better be working fast on a contengency plan or this is going to be lots of complaints coming there way.
I recommend that everyone call the Nintendo support line and politely ask why they didn't get a registration code and ask what the fix is going to be. If they get enough phone calls (AGAIN BE POLITE) we may get some kind of formal statement here on the issue.
Right now I'm just trying to get past hours of connection errors to even get my system to pull down the initial update so I can link my account, then it's a wait and see matter.

My girlfriend's favorite game on the system. The primary gameplay doesn't particularly justify it being on the Wii U, but it has a fun little multiplayer mode where Wii Remote users can take control of created objects.
If that doesn't float your boat, you can pick up the same game on Steam for $29.99 tomorrow.
Others have said it appears at the end of your to-do list.
I have it at the end of my To Do list, but I believe that's actually the Intend to Buy, not the actual game. It's right next to a bunch of other stuff I did "Intend to Buy" on that I never bought.

That sounds perfect actually. I was also looking for a girlfriend game. Low-stakes and high goofiness are the usual requirements, so I imagine it'll work well.
UPS showed up right as I was walking out the door, so I just threw the system on and started the update before I head out. I already had a bit of a magic moment when I realized I didn't know what kind of security I was using on my wi-fi, but was annoyed by the prospect of bringing my laptop into my crowded with packaging living room with me while I checked. Then I realized I should just carry the gamepad with me. And finish setup from my kitchen. And then I was delighted.
Can anyone explain to me how the Nintendo Network ID and User Accounts work? I thought the NNID was like a system ID and then the user accounts were separate. Am I wrong in that thinking?
Whenever I create an account it asks me to create a NNID. I have one I've created and my personal account, but I'd like to make an account for my wife, son and daughter but I just want them as part of my NNID. I thought that's how it worked anyways. Am I way off base here? Can someone explain this to me like I'm 5 and maybe the process to do it, I feel like this should not be so hard.
Also, is there a place to give Nintendo suggestions for things to add? If I could add remote functionality to control a reciever (even just to switch sources and control the volume) it would change my livingroom for all time.

I'm not really sure why Nintendo just didn't go full on universal remote with the remote function. Having it limited to a few actions seems really stupid.

The way I understand it (and this may totally be wrong) is that NNID is like a system-wide account, and the user accounts (which are the various Mii portraits) are profiles for individual settings and stuff (and probably saves, etc). So what I think it means is, you buy an eShop game on the NNID account and everyone who plays on that console can use it. But individual stuff is tied to the individual profiles, so like save games, MiiVerse comments, etc.
That may be totally wrong but that's the way I'm understanding it.

I would assume that's because the TVii functions aren't in yet. They will prob do more with it later.

I was shocked that it actually has the "Guide" button for my cable box. I honestly don't know what other buttons I'd need.

Menu for my TV is what I need most, so I can go in and turn settings on and off. The WiiU is the only thing that I don't have plugged into my home theater (no HDMI) so I need to turn on the TV's speakers when I switch to WiiU, and I still need my regular remote to do that.

BTW, anyone with a Tivo get the TV remote function to work right? I can only sync it with my specific TV, not my Tivo. So I can do power/volume/input, but the channel selection is completely useless to me.
Granted this thing is supposed to have specific Tivo connectivity at some point so maybe I shouldn't care and just wait :P
For anybody with Black Ops 2, have you used the Wii Classic Controller or Pro? I know it's supposed to support them, and that's likely what I'll be playing with, but I'm curious how it handles the lack of the sticks pressing in, which the new pro controller and gamepad have. If I remember from previous games, one of them sprints, and the other does a melee attack.

Oh fun:

Wii U owners, please do not power down or unplug your system while downloading updates. Doing so may cause damage to your Wii U.
So, don't have a power outage during an update or you could brick your console -_-
