I was playing Sing Party and I guess the update just downloaded in the background. I didn't even know there was going to be an update, but I when I exited to the Wii U home screen I got a screen saying the update was installing. After about 5-10 minutes, I was done. The moral of the story is: Nintendo needs to release the DLC for Sing Party... I need new songs!

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I'm having a real hard time keeping my wii-u online. I think it's mainly the fault of my wifi router. It's a new belkin model and it has a lot of inbuilt security. So much so that I usually have trouble getting devices that aren't computers or smartphones onto it, like my 3ds, and, well, the wii-u. I can't even really explain the problem, sometimes it connects, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it passes the connection test but will then give me a variety of error messages that mean I can't actually get online with it.
I've tried wifi protected setups, I've tried the workaround involving turning off auto detecting IP addresses and manually doing it all, and it's still really inconsistent.
I tried to add some PA people to friends list just before, and the internet on the wii-u keeps dropping off and back on again so much it would take me 5 tries to add someone. It would work in the end, but it was so damned tedious, and I feel like without the internet we're missing out on a lot of stuff the wii u is capable of.
I'm not even sure how to ask for help on this, but, does anyone have any ideas?
All my other wifi devices are currently able to reliably stay online, so, ugh. Why won't the Wii u!?
I think the most we could offer you are our individual theories as to why it happens, but the issue is so new we've got very little in the way of actual helpful advice. The best thing I think you can do is to hit up customer support and explain the issue, call 'em several times if you need to until you get someone who sounds like they've got a clue about what they're doing. They might not have any better answers than we can offer you, but in that case you might as well tell them you want to send the unit in for repairs to ultimately dispel any concerns. For all we know the antennas might be shoddy or something and can thus be fixed under warranty. I do believe you can back up your saves to an SD card if you wanna keep them safe when you send it in, but don't quote me on that.
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.

I bought Sing Party for my wife for Christmas. Looking forward to making a fool of myself.
Well I left on my Wii U when I left the house this morning. If it locks up mid-download hopefully being hard locked for 6 hours doesn't hurt the thing.
I tried the "Shut off console when download is done" option, but it pretty much went off right away when the internet disconnected.

I had (have?) the exact same problem. I have a list of error codes at least twenty numbers deep and I finally called Nintendo about... four days ago. They were about as helpful as you'd think with the tier one guy not actually having a complete list of what the error codes actually mean. Tier two took me through all kinds of the basic trouble shooting (When did "Power Cycling" become the term for "restart your devices" ?). Then I called my ISP the following day to much of the same.
I found that I was able to access and stay connected via a PC based repeater (I used Connectify) and used that to pull the new update, which has seemingly completely resolved my connection issues (Over the connection that would time out every other second). Or, at least I was able to watch a film on Netflix and pull down Nano Assault Neo (Thanks for the advice, thread!) last night with no hiccups.
Is bringing your console to a place where you can pull the update an option? Were you able to use the Wii U's online stuff yesterday during the E-Shop down time? Mine did, and when the maintenance was over it was back to error city for me.

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. I can sit and watch the download management screen flip from "You're Connected to the Internet" to "You're Not Connected to the Internet" every 10-20 seconds.
If I knew it was my router I'd have no problems springing for a new one as it's 8 years old, but every other device in the house, from my Xbox 360, my mom's PC, my iMac, my iPhone, and even my 3DS don't show any issues whatsoever.
Is there a list anywhere of all of the games that support off-TV play? It's one of the biggest selling points of this console for me but finding a definitive list has proven to be incredibly difficult. I know NSMBU supports it, and ZombiU does not, but beyond that, I can't find any good lists. (I apologize if this has been asked previously, I tried looking in the OP and in quite a few pages of posts but couldn't find it).
Do you get a smaller resolution on the pad compared to a full HD TV? Speaking of which - does the console come with a component or HDMI cable? I remember the Wii only had a component output, not an HDMI one.

Comes with HDMI and I'm sure it's a smaller resolution because there's no reason to display 1080p on it.

Hmm, so there's a downside to playing on the pad. Oh well, I wasn't really gonna use that feature anyways, so I'm not disappointed.

The controller screen is 480p. I could make out the individual wrinkles in Bowser's face.

To be fair, the pad is also much smaller than an HDTV. Games still look pretty good on it.

The gamepad also compresses the image quite a bit. It's pretty obvious playing something like NSMB U with crisp graphics next to an HDTV.
At least in the case of New Super Mario Bros U, it's noticeable, but not even remotely detrimental to the experience. It has been really nice to be able to take the gamepad into the bedroom when there's a show some of the other people in my house want to watch.
Some of the Nintendo Land games work fine with just the gamepad. I think it's all of the coop games, DK, and the plaza itself including the coin dropping.
They're showing some Pikmin 3 right now and had a bit about Lego City before.
Looks like you'll be able to access Lego vehicles in the game via codes you can get from purchasing real-world Lego sets.
Did you hear that? It's the sound of my wallet crying. We kept the kid out of the world of Skylanders, but Lego with codes in the boxes? I don't think we can resist.
So far it kinda looks like there's only one tie-in Lego box with two vehicles, but I'm sure there's stuff they haven't shown yet or intend to leverage the fuck out of as time goes on.

Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
So they just announced that Scribblenauts would be published by Nintendo in Europe. That explains the delay I guess, although its a little weird. Who knows what that means for the PC version though
"Oh, well, this would be one of those circumstances that people unfamiliar with the law of large numbers would call a coincidence."

I would be irritated if it wasn't for the fact that they'll be all over the internet anyway.
I don't mind too much - if anything shoving him towards City sets gets him out of Ninjago for awhile, those were getting repetitive kind of in a Power Rangers way with the same characters over and over again in new costumes.
I really hope Lego City doesn't try so hard with the narrative as Lego Batman 2 did. It's just...bad. There's a reason all previous Lego games used only VERY short cinematics with no voice acting.
I started the update an hour or so ago, and a little way in there was a server hiccup. So I quit out, played games for a while. I didn't realise that the download would continue in the background! Installing now, hope nothing goes wrong....
This is why all the griping is silly. All the updates can be run in the background ...including the initial one. You can play games the entire time.
My bricked WiiU disagrees!
And this WiiU Panorama thing... I uh.. does anyone here think it could be worth spending money on? I mean I have zero interest in it, but is there someone here who thinks to themselves "That looks cool I would buy that?"
Why can't Fire Emblem come out for WiiU as well. WHY!? It really sounds like they're going with a "Persona 4-esque" relationships means better combat type thing.
Lego City tying in with toys is something I can get behind because it's not just a hunk of molded plastic with NFC in it, it's a LEGO set that my kid can play with and make other things with and also get something in the game. That's where it wins. Plus Lego City is something I think I'd like to play.
I've never played a Pikmin game, but Pikmin 3 looks gorgeous.

Depends entirely on price. If its cheap and has a decent amount of content? Sure.
If the Panorama thing is the same thing as what was at E3, it was a cool demo, not worth spending money on, unless they added some new compelling features.
