it's still important at a large base fight when there's lots of ground to cover. "Enemy AMS at the southwest outpost" is how I normally phrase it, and then if people wanna go kill it we can get more specific.
It's also really helpful to refer to yourself by your squad number, since that's what everybody sees on the maps. Ex: "Enemy AMS south of bravo squad #4." Then everybody can just check the map and see exactly where you are.
I still can hardly tell the difference between bravo and delta squads on the map. They both look brown to me.

I'm getting seriously pissed at Vent. My apologies for being one of the Deltas to just go AWOL last night, but I got fed up with my setup, and rage quit.
I just cannot transmit in Vent while playing PS2. I do not have this problem in other games. Yes, I'm running Vent as admin. What's pissing me off is my inability to give timely input that could make the difference. Take last night. I had helped take the tower on the Delta op, and while counter sniping, was witness to a massive NC drop right on top of the tower. While I had been alt tabbing out of the game from time to time to give critical updates, and I press q like doing so will dispense crack at random intervals, in this situation, I simply could not fight and alt tab out. I dropped a couple of NCs, but was dismayed that the others took down some of our guys that might have been able to fight them off if I could have gotten a warning off...
At another point, I could see the spawn beacon everyone was looking for, and of course forgot that I could not transmit, and was pissed when I realized that the reason I was watching tons of NC continue to drop in was nobody could hear me...
And earlier, when we thought we had cleared the roof, but a couple mans were still on top, and I couldn't give timely warning...
While I know I'm playing a part in simply killing more mans than kill me (I had a good k/d night last night, many cents were had), I also know my contribution to Zenu...er Vanu is hampered by my inability to communicate effectively.
Well, have you tried the in-game voice chat? Maybe it can work as a stop gap until Vent works.

do you have Q bound to vent's PTT? Cause that's default bound to spot in PS2. I have noticed that sometimes, even with vent in admin mode, it's PTT won't work right if something else is using the bind.
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
the stuff about the vent channel also reinforces the need for people to be able to restrain their desire to repeat memes or other stupid shit while we're fighting over something.
I realize it sounds to you like the funniest goddamn thing ever when you're doing it and I know I've done it in the past too, but it became incredibly annoying the other night when we were fighting over amerish.

Ah ha! I have it bound to l-ctrl, as it's easy to reach but hard to hit accidentally. That's also the temp-crouch in game. I'll swap it out in game and see if that fixes things. Thanks!

I bound my vent PTT to one of my mouse side buttons. That way I can still do everything in game and still transmit without any crazy hand contortions or breaks in the man face shootans.
As far as Vent goes, I can't remember who it was, but they know some arcane black magic that will let us do some awesome shit in Vent for better organization without it being all srs faec. I dunno if @SniperGuy has tried it out yet, but it'll involve some key binding shenanigans and a little trial and error.
I bind talk to Caps Lock because its usually unused.
Makes things awkward sometimes when I need to type real quick though.

It took me way too long to realize why my scythe's flares were always on cooldown.
Boy we're getting killed tonight Whoever wrath is, I'm sorry I tk'd you, I was in the bushes and surrounded on three sides. You came over the hill right after I reloaded and I got skeerd.
I love how predictable zerg behavior is. After Sniperguy logged off, we kept steamrolling TR on Indar. They were busy fighting NC at Crown so they totally ignored us. It was really obvious that as long as we didn't touch any zones directly touching the Crown or wherever else they were fighting the NC, they'd ignore us and let us do whatever. So we carved a nice thin slice off to let TR/NC have at it, and took the majority of the continent without any opposition. So much exp.
I had a lot of fun with you guys tonight. It is a shame that we fell just a few areas short of the entire continent, but I guess that gives me a new goal for tomorrow!
It was nice playing with people who communicate; thanks for the invite!
Also, now I have 210 certs and I dont know what to spend them on. Please help me.
It depends on the class you like to play. I'd recommend upgrading your favorite class' special ability (medic gun, repair tool, cloaking, etc) first since that will help you get more experience in the long run.
I'm sitting on 400 certs myself and I'm highly tempted to get the revive grenade even though I know it's very situational and likely will be frustrating to use (though apparently it does give you exp for revives according an official forum thread I found). I'll probably just get the final medic gun upgrade.
I play too many classes I was thinking of upgrading the medic gun but I think the more health on revive thing would actually cut into point gain a little since I wont get as many points healing them back to full.
I wish you could respec for a cost, everything seems so permanent.
I'm pretty sure that the amount of XP gained scales as you upgrade.

Good playing with everyone as always.
Sorry about the hot mic issue, my stupid mouse button that I normally use for PTT broke, so I had disable it. Now I have to get used to hitting another PTT key...good thing my mouse has 7 buttons!
Made another 200 certs tonight, probably going to blow it on thermal vision for my Scythe. Death from above, anytime!
Wow tech plants are fucking awful. Who thought that was a good idea?
There are a multitude of ways to take a tech plant. It's usually the hardest and longest base fight, but it's also the most rewarding when you do finally break the defense.
I actually think amp stations are tougher to crack than tech plants. To start with, the retaining walls create choke points that turn into infantry meatgrinders, especially since some idiot always parks a sunderer right outside every one and prohibits one from ever deploying inside. Even moving the assault into the courtyard means taking down pairs of redundant generators.
Then, the defenders can park an AMS directly on top of the control point and the shield generator for the SCU. The attackers have to overcome a relatively-defensible spawn position using essentially only infantry weapons. They really need to change the layout of the amp station garage such that if nothing else, it's impossible to drive a sunderer up the stairs.
At least at tech plants, coordinated attackers can get in via air. Even just parking an AMS at the back doors will usually break a tech plant eventually.

This game has reinforced my dislike of twitchy FPSs, so I'm dedicating myself to piloting a Lib as well as possible so I don't have to step foot on the ground. Anyone else joining the Arcadian 8th Air Force?

We have several people that fly in the outfit. I usually start out in a Scythe and fly it until I get shot down, then switch to infantry for a while. I really need an airframe upgrade for it, though.

Amp stations are super open though, which gives for more angles of attack. With Tech plants theres really only 1 way in. You can use a Shield Defusser, but any competent defense force will have the vehicle bays strewn with landmines. We've managed to wedge 4 vanguards and an AMS sundy by the tech plant's back doors. Pimp those with HE rounds and no one is getting through those doors. Hell, no one has really gotten through unless we got bored and decided to push out and overextend ourselves.

Well last night, we took our tech plant (Vanuwrich bitches!) in what I believe was a new record time for us. Got the third level of squad beacon last night as well, and from the looks of things, level 4 is where it might start becoming really good at dispensing mans fast. Sneak in as Infiltrator, pop bacon, receive squad. Though it was a shame that our leapfrogging didn't pan out on pushing the NC back to their gate, but with some more coordination, I'm sure we can do it.
Oddly I am really liking the tanks in this game, I've never been a tank guy before, always preferring aircraft. I think I know why, every time I get in a Magrider I feel like I'm in TRON...
Also, I can take more than a mosquito sneezing on me, unlike when I get in a scythe, which typical flight/fight time is about 30 seconds.

Do vehicles have trunks? Totally bull crap that you can't hack enemy vehicles, btw. I get that it would be a problem with certs and all that, but still.

I like tanks a lot in PS simply because of the scale, both in terms of the world (rolling across open ground or in the narrow canyons of Indar, etc) and in terms of the population (armor columns, tank squads, etc).
Edit: Of course, Magriders being pure awesome doesn't hurt.
We had an armor column last night that stretched from base in the Impact crater, all the way up that long ass road to the top of the crater, and into the next base. It was some crazy shit.
Last night was sooooo good. Discovered a way to roll my tank around the side wall into a small outpost that our whole team was crushing and proceeded to get about 20 kills. I was 22/2 at one point, and one of those deaths was because I flipped my liberator on takeoff :P
Also had a great time playing gunner for Fire. He is a great pilot when he isn't ramming tanks head-on.
Speaking of ramming, I need someone to do some Science with me at some point. I'm pretty sure the other night I managed to kill a friendly magrider by "accidentally" magburning into the back of his tank. I swear I was not in any way attempting to use him as a "sweet jump" and that my finger totally just slipped. I took no damage and got no kill notification, but I heard an explosion and turned around and he was busy exploding with nary an enemy to be found.
So yea, I want to see if I can replicate this experience with a science buddy before I go try it on someone who might want to kill me back.
I'm on right now. Someone shoot me an invite! WraithXt1

Protip: If you want ALL the points, grab a Magrider with a VPC and post up on the east hill overlooking Crimson Bluff Tower on Indar while it's being sieged. It puts you slightly above the air vehicle pads, and there's plenty of room to strafe back and forth to avoid getting hit by rockets. It's like a giant tower-shaped barrel full of fish!

Turns out my PTT key was also the flare button.
Have you all considered taking tomorrow off work?
Do it. The numbers are smaller so a real platoon could make a huge difference!
Not on friendly sunderers though. Reported it again but it just seems really strange!
Not sure when you were on last, but the other two factions have owned 99% of the map for at least the last two hours. We got pushed back to homebase.
