Wow. So, I did a 1-month membership, and then used the 500 SC points to buy a 50% 7-day boost. So, that gives me +75% while on offense, and +90% on defense.
Repairing a max? 20xp. Repairing a Sunderer? 11xp. Ammo drop? 18xp. Shit is crazy. Totally glad I spent the SC on the boost, as most of what I currently want are cert upgrades.
You should see what happens with the 6 month Prepaid. If you prebuy the sub you instantly get the 6 month bonus. I am just using that with the Alpha Squad bonus is it's about that. If you combined 6 month with a +50% amp, that would just get crazy.
My plan is that if I'm still playing after Christmas, to buy the 6-month Prepaid. But I don't always stick with games for that long, so I'm giving it a test run first. :P
Yeah I broke down and subbed for a month last night. The bonus XP is real tasty. Will probably slot a boost when I get home for MOAR CERTZ.

Its crazy awesome. Took a tech plant right before the server went down for 1750 xp. Boom 7 certs. Then ran around and started repairing turrets for 10-12xp per pulse.
I need to find someone who wants to go MAX and team up with me tonight, because that's where the real money is. 20 xp per repair pulse, +17 xp per ammo reload. Talk about ridiculous. That's basically 1+ certs a minute, easy.

I did the 6 month just for the hell of it. Since the game is F2P a six month sub is basically box copy + 1 month. I probably won't extend my sub beyond that regardless of how much I'm playing then.

I'm down sometime for sure. I rocked a MAX on base defense a couple days ago, and killed so many baddies it was silly. Granted, the scrubs just kept coming through one open doorway, five or six at a time. Glorious!

It was weird. Basically everyone was running around shooting the stationary bodies of everyone else. Snipers had a field day.

I have gotten the pop-in a few times in some larger fights, but saying that "it also progressively makes combat impossible at any range other than point blank" is just silly. The scrubs over at the official forums have no understanding what they are talking about. They are just parroting back what others have said. I have almost no issues getting killed by someone near me that had not rendered in. The only time I ever really see it is when I take a jump pad from one really crowded area to one that is covered in baddies. They usually pop in just after I land.
Other than that, it's really not an issue. The pop-in issue is being blown totally out of proportion.

Last night an NC sunderer deployed right next to our base while most of us were leaving, thinking we had defended it. I kid you not when I say that about twenty enemy infantry popped into existence when I was no more than 30 feet away from them, and my tank was quickly annihilated.
1) Will exp be continent based instead of server? Probably going to change it to be continent based.
2) Will resources gained go back to being global? No.
3) What classes need the most love and have the most features coming? All of them, but especially the Light Assault and close second the MAX.
4) Sticky grenades for Light Assault? Probably not. We are thinking of designing the Light Assault to be more of a lone wolf player/1v1 assassin. We are thinking of making them have ammo scavenging tools. Like gaining ammo after each kill.
5) Will the Light Assault get recon tools like real light infantry? We've thought about that a lot, but right now, all the new recon tools are going to go to the infiltrator, like spotting for artillery (he might be referring to orbital strike).
6) Will Maxes be able to spec to be tankier but lower DPS? Probably, or other interesting customization options.
7) Will the other factions' tanks be brought down to match the prowler's weak level? No. We are going to buff the prowler.
8) What faction's guns are the weakest? NC, by a considerable amount (there was a chance he was being sarcastic).
9) Will there be camo bundles so we can just buy one camo and apply it to everything? In the future, yes.
10) Will the mission system allow for specific missions like "overload this generator." Yes. It will have broad and specific mission capabilities. There will be rewards for completing missions, but not necessarily cert rewards.
11) Will mission system objectives have distance and direction markers on the screen to guide new players? Higby didn't actually answer this one, but someone else in the room (not affiliated with SOE) laughed it off saying it is a noobie idea and a clone of Halo UI. Higby didn't respond.
12) Will Auraxium be coming back? Maybe. Or maybe something similar. There will be big changes coming to resources in the future. No ETA.
13) Will other classes besides HA and MAXes be able to deal with vehicles? Yes. We will add tools so that more classes can deal with vehicles.
14) Will infantry be able to deal with liberators? Yes. Right now only air can kill liberators effectively. We want to add tools to allow infantry to stay infantry and still be able to combat libs.
15) Will there be larger group units than the platoon? Yes. No ETA.
16) Will commanders be able to draw on the map? That feature was built into the game, but not ready.
I can't wait to see orbital strikes in PS2. Those things were great fun in Planetside 1, and with the fancy new graphics you know they will be intense. Also, they are going to be empire-specific this time around, I believe.
I want to clarify #14 because I think it missed the point of what I was trying to say.
We want ground to have effective deterrence for aircraft, and especially so for enemy fighters, but we don't want ground to necessarily be THE hard counter to any aircraft. Our goal is to make it so that ground can feel like they can ward off enemy aircraft and be extremely dangerous to risk taking pilots. However, maintaining air superiority is still going to be the most effective and fool proof way to be safe from flying threats. Therefore we want ground based AA to be effective vs. strafing fighters and high flying bombers alike, but not necessarily the best way to counter those threats. The best counter for Liberators should be friendly fighters.

Not really. Its frequency might be, but during extremely large battles the pop in is unbearable. It can get to the point where an area looks clear, but you run 20 feet closer and a platoon of enemies pops into existence. It happens a lot in tech plants, since the way most people assault that base is through those tiny doors at the back, causing so many people to squish into a tiny space and thus forcing the servers to cull how many of those players you're allowed to see.

I think the biggest culprit is probably the Eisa Tech Plant on Esamir. Tying MBT spawns to Tech Plants, and then placing only one of them on an entire continent, you're bound to test the limits of what the server can handle.
Where the pop in is annoying:
Infantry base fights. It can get pretty bad, but at least it's fair. If you can only see 20ft, then the guys you are fighting are in the same boat. You never really get shot by someone who is invisible.
Flying a Liberator. You can fly at 1000m and bomb the hell out of vehicles, the game seems to load them at at a great distance.... but if someone is repairing that vehicle, you have no way to kill the engineer.
Where the pop in is really bad:
Liberator vs AA MAX. I'm ok with having to fly lower to kill infantry (risk vs reward and all), but it really sucks when you are above the infantry render distance and get hit by a completely invisible/invincible AA MAX. I would have rated this higher than "really bad" except AA MAXes don't do that much damage. =D
Why didn't anyone ask when they were going to add BFRs!?
We don't make those sort of jokes around here.
Anyone know if the Colossus Easter Egg on Indar is still there? Or did they take it out for retail?
Should still be there, though the facility (Defunct Solar Hub) is different; the building it's housed in is still around, but the rest of the place has changed. Can't remember what it was changed to, though.
EDIT for clarification: the Colossus used to be housed in a building at a facility called Defunct Solar Hub during beta. In the last major update of beta, that facility was removed and replaced with a different one (i.e. both the name and layout of the main area where the points are is different, but the location on the map remains the same) but the Colossus remained.
The implementation of big mechs in PS1 sucked but I'm always going to be for BIG MECHS in games. I hope they do it right if they attempt it again
big mechs are only fun when everyone is stomping around in one. Im a BIG mech fan, but it detracts so much from the core theme of Planetside of working together because "LOL Im da Juggernaut!"
Especially how it played in PS1. That expansion was almost *required* to be purchased in order to engage the enemy frames. Tanks were candy to a BFR and it had so much shields that air power and artillary had to shell it constantly for a least a minute to have a shot at killing it. Even then, the Frame pilot would engage for 30seconds or so, then fall back inside the Amp Super Shield to repair and have absolutely ZERO risk in engaging.
The only thing the frames were weak against was some psychotically suicidal MAX unit that knew how to time his cruise control to stop inside the enemy frame's shield, then shoot the shit out of a glowing widget on the frame's back that would kill the shield and allow all the vehicles on your team to try to get it killed before it hid behind the Super Shield. But wait... that enemy frame just needed 4 or 5 guys hanging around it's legs and it's ok to fight again. Im not even gonna talk about BRF zergs...
they required practically a platoon to deal with ONE. GUY.
*********************
If you have to have mechs in PS2, they should be roughly the size and survivability of a Lightning, but vertical. Give it low top speed, but high torque so it's advantage is in fighting on hugely undulating terrain or the side of a mountain. If a tank or sunderer can't drive up that cliff, neither should the mech.
I thought BFRs were ok in the state they finally ended up in; nerfed to buggery to the point that the two-man version was just about as effective as 1.5 tanks.
In the state they were released in they were 1-man deathmobiles and pretty much killed the game when previously its population was the highest it had been since launch.
I asked over in SE++ but I also wanted to ask you guys: does anyone know of a video that shows off how huge and insane the battles in this can get? Trying to show the game off to some non-PC gaming friends and I'm not turning up anything good.
I think mechs would work fine if they had survivability similar to tanks; slower moving, but better fields of fire by dint of being taller. The problem with the PS1 ones wans't that they were mechs, it was that their survivability was so out of proportion to everything else.
also I haven't noticed much trouble with pop-ins; is this the kind of thing that's probably a result of lower-end setups?
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

I think it has more to do with how the client and server communicate rather than an individual's rig. If my admittedly scarce knowledge of what everyone else was talking about is correct.

Oh god, the Eidolon rifle is so fucking awful. Slowish projectile speed makes actual long range work a giant pain in the ass since the shots do so little damage. The gun also has the sort of kick you'd expect from a battle rifle, shame it doesn't do an appropriate amount of damage.
It looks fucking amazing. I get around 40 fps though.
I get about that as well. You can tinker with Ultra settings without much of an FPS drop as well if you're getting a steady 40FPS in big fights. 40+ is perfectly playable for me. I've run with crappy specs for so long that poor FPS doesn't phase me that much. I remember the first time I hit 60FPS in WoW (long ago) the smoothness freaked me out because it felt so alien.
I wish they would take Esamir back to the drawing board. The warpgate placement was proven to be horrible back in beta. Basically the NW gate is completely shafted. The two other gates battle lines push directly into the NW gate, boxing them in. On top of that, the NW gate has very unfriendly terrain for vehicles. But the SW gate has very flat, open terrain that extends all the way east for fast deployment for ground vehicles. The NE gate also has this, but it doesn't extend as far south, giving those in the SW the edge over the SE corner of the map. Before they switched ownership of the gates around in beta, the NC had the SW, the VS had the NE and the TR had the NW. NC held the entire continent until Auraxium was taken out, and even after that the TR never had a fighting chance. It was always a battle between the NC and the Vanu.

EDIT: Never mind. The answer is yes. Some sort of short downtime due to a server configuration problem, apparently.
They had an issue with a new configuration with the servers. Its currently being corrected according to Planetside 2's Twitter.
You can check server status in the launchpad by clicking on the little wrench icon. All servers do appear to be down currently.
