    A couple of questions:
Is buying a health pack worth it? Should I get the instant type or the over time type?
How does the Light's C4 work? does it take up the same slot a health pack would?

    Seriously, opty.

They need a cross grouping function so that I can figure out where all these abilities go by slot so I dont burn the certs and find out they take up another critical ability.

Eh, only if you use it in a fight. Given that the instant one can be ok (if you remember to use it). Otherwise a friendly medic is preferable.

C4 does take up the same slot and is overall more useful as it lets LA punch well above their weight. If it hasn't changed, you right click to deploy the C4 and then left click to detonate.

Just a note though that C4 is expensive, 200 certs to unlock 1 pack, 500 for 2. Refills are 90 resources each.

Yes, especially for Light Assault. C4 does massive damage to vehicles. I think the damage was buffed slightly since beta.

Two C4 will kill a Lightning or heavily damage MBT/Sundy. I believe one C4 is enough to take out an ESF if you can manage to plant it on them.

Devs answered some questions at Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5963778/planetside-2s-art-director-is-answering-your-questions-live

Someone at reddit compiled some (but not nearly all) of the responses:
    1) Hey guys! Any plans to make Station Cash purchases account-wide, rather than character-specific?
Matt Higby : We've definitely heard this feedback from players. It's something that we're considering and discussing at present, but we haven't decided for sure if it's something we will do quite yet. Obviously taking user feedback into account is very important to us, and we will continue to do as much as possible to make the store and SC items accessible and a good value for our players.

    2) Do you have plans for outfit customisable cammo or uniforms?
Matt Higby: We are going to be doing some pretty cool stuff with Outfit customizations (uniforms, decals, etc) with a rather large update to Outfits that should be coming sometime in the next year.

    3) What kind of weapons are you making for the game now?
Tramell Isaac: Nanite Systems will be making some more weapons for the Auraxis War. The Empires will be creating SMG's pretty soon here as well

    4) Any ETA on the Squad/Platoon specific AMS for the galaxy?
Matt Higby: We will probably see the Galaxy AMS (for squads only) making a comeback early next year.

    5) Could we get the Sundy ammo holographic hidden for people that are using it as transport?
Matt Higby: We've got that on a bug list.

    6) Whats your next continent I notice on continent select screen there is a 4th landmass it looks jagged almost volcanic.
Tramell Isaac: Searhus, the Volcanic map is next

    7) When can we expect to see more vehicles and weapons?
Tramell Isaac: we have snow-mobiles and buggies coming soon.

    8) Another, a Yes or No question: Orbital Strikes in the next year or so?
Tramell Isaac: OS is coming soon, early next year

    9) When is the cell phone application coming out?
Tramell Isaac: Within the next couple of weeks I believe.

    10) Will there be an option to change up the colors some for color blind individuals? I am forced to join the TR as I cannot see the difference in VS/NC colors on maps.
Matt Higby: Better indicators for friend vs foe are going to be coming soon, with some options to allow you to switch between modes such as "Enemy / Friendly" mode where all friendly objectives, vehicles, etc would share a color and all enemies regardless of empire would be another color - this will be easier for us to make color-blind-proof. We will also have an "Empire Color" mode, where everything is strictly empire color (so for TR nearby friendly characters would have a red triangle over their head, and show up as red indicators on the minimap, friendly TR objectives would be red, enemy NC objectives would be Blue). This is similar to the "Ally color"/"player color" mode switch you can find in RTS / Moba game's minimaps.

    11) Aside from outfit-custom gear, any plans to release faction-specific cammo/ customizations?
Tramell Isaac: We have a CRAP ton of camos coming in the next month or so. Specifically, continent specific camos.

    12) How come you cannot enable ALL the add on cosmetics for your ESF, yet can for an infantry soldier (camo, armor etc)? I only get to choose one, yet have bought all 3 thinking i would have 3/4 slots for my ESF?
Matt Higby: We are working on a plan to allow you to equip more vehicle cosmetic attachments simultaneously.

    13) Are you going to introduce a shooting range so that players can experience weapons and other gear before buying it from the game, please?
Matt Higby: We will probably add a shooting range at some point in the near future, also a driving/flight course to practice with the vehicles. For now, you can "Trial" any weapon in the game for 30 minutes, once every few hours. Make sure you check that out for weapons you want to get a feel for.

    14) Any plans to do a remake of Hossin or something filled with swamps?
Matt Higby: Hossin is one of the continents on our list for 2013!

Good stuff! Can't wait to roll out in buggies, and I bet Searhus will be impressive in the new engine 8-)

I really hope they make station cash unlocks account-wide. I would be wayyyy happier spending money on station cash if that were the case.

I have not heard good things about the burst fire weapons. Apparently they do not have a full-auto mode. You can do a trial to see if you like it.

As far as the carbines go, VX6-7 is best at close-medium range. I haven't figured out which carbine I like for long range yet. Possibly Pulsar C because of higher damage per bullet and high velocity ammo.

yeah the burst fire ones are junk. The solstice SF isn't that though; it's the same as the default except that it can fit the underbarrel rail attachments and custom ammo and so on.

the vx6 is cool, but I dunno if I can live without a 2x reflex sight

I've been using the Pulsar C to good effect, but I can't really compare it to anything outside the default carbine.

I stay out of the really big infantry battles for the most part. I prefer to fight in the outskirts of the large bases or in vehicles. The pop-in problem rarely occurs for me under those conditions, even in battles that have piles of people in them.

Last night during Tawrich, the pop-in wasn't really bothering me. I mean, chances are if you can't see them they can't see you, and if you can't see them, there are tons of other people nearby you need to be worried about shooting anyway.

Light Assault needs some love. They feel a bit lacking without C4.

If you're interested in an alternative kind of melee mad bomber, try tank mines on the engineer. Two mines will kill any vehicle without anti-mine armor (who uses anti-mine armor, anyways?). You get two to start with (one in hand and one in stock), one is 75 Infantry resources to resupply, and the unlock only costs 100 certs. Getting to the vehicle to mine them is kind of tricky, especially since engineers don't have jetpacks, but I very much recommend it for making enemy AMS sunderers disassemble.

Is there a faster way to invite people to a squad? The only thing I've found is "/squad invite <name>"; I don't see anything in the keybindings. Ideally, I'd like to be able to point at a person and invite them to a squad. This would be particularly useful when flying around, allowing me to use squad voice chat with other friendly aircraft.

if they're in the outfit they can join up on their own, but other than that you have to type their name in. Autojoin seems to try to match you with nearby people, but obviously that's only helpful if you don't already have a squad.

I think heavy assault is pretty forgiving for new people (like me). You're a threat to enemy infantry and tanks plus you can get away from walking into bad areas better than other classes which you'll tend to do a lot.

I think the biggest thing total newbies should do is auto join a squad via the social menu and stick with your squad mates, this has made learning the game a lot more fun for me and I'm not sure why the game doesn't automatically do this for new players.

Not sure about the Infiltrator, but all classes can be played okay with no unlocks (though I'd recommend the 1 cert unlocks for each class). Just try them all out and find one you like. Engineer and Medic are good for starting out since you can be useful and get xp without having to shoot mans. Heavy Assault would probably be good for trying out combat since they're the most survivable. I personally play Engineer if I'm in a vehicle or helping to support, HA if I'm in the fray, and occasionally Light Assault if I want to try something different. I also plan to mess around with Infiltrator once I unlock a better rifle.

As of right now, I'm planning to only grind out weapons and upgrades. I primarily play engineer. Should I aim for getting one of the shotguns or a carbine (I think the VX6-7 is universally loved by people in the CoA)? The 30 minute trial every 8 hrs is nice but tough to make direct comparisons. Also, a list of "must have" upgrades (besides the 1 cert wonders) would be great. Thanks for doing all my research in this game for me :D

The 20 round rifles and carbines are usually the best all around. They hit the hardest at point blank, but still maintain stopping power at range. As for things to cert into early game, I would spent your first 1k-ish cert points as follows.

    Sundie AMS
2x Scope on all 20 rounders and the stock LMG.
Compensator on all 20 rounders and stock LMG
Foregrip on all 20s and LMG.
Advanced Foregrip on all 20s and LMG.

Once you get all of that, start thinking about what you find yourself doing the most or what you like the most. By this time you should already have mastered he basics of combat, so deciding where you want to take your soldier should not be too hard. I am almost finished with this list myself. All I really need now is the adv foregrip on my LMG.

I would recommend using SC to unlock the G2A lockon for Heavy Assault. I like to call it "my little fly-swatter."

Yep, pretty much what I've done on my BR20 guy. I put two bars worth of blockade armor on my Sundie to go along with AMS, plus one Bulldog turret. The G2A launcher may not do much damage but you can seriously get aircraft to back off just by locking onto them, plus you can still dumb fire it at ground targets. The scopes and grips are must-haves if you want to reliably hit anything beyond 10 feet.
