But if that's not the case that means someone's on a trusted list that shouldn't be trusted.
Hypothetical: shalmelo is not the final obstacle to village victory. So what happens tomorrow? The cult votes out anybody not in their group (which they have the votes to control). Past that, they have to turn an eye inward to find the converted cultist that wasn't actually converted.
For both our sake, I hope that doesn't happen.
I'd have preferred to answer some of these in private, but I don't think it can hurt much anymore.
So here are a few things that don't rest well with me:
1. Saber laid out to the people on his trusted list everyone who claimed to be MM and who was targeting who. The following night after the MM's were confirmed .. they were killed by mafia.
INANTP also left victorious. I have a feeling he revealed information to the mafia that allowed him to win. There are other possibilities, but that one is simplest.
He may have been. One of the people I guarded that night was killed, despite my guard. When I asked for clarification, the host confirmed that my guard target's death was not in error.
Incidentally, if we want to go down the insane seer path, Erich Zahn is the only other person who I am aware of that has seered as village.
Because the night SOE died, he had asked that EZ be killed. The cult has vouched for EZ's would-be killer, so I voted to remove someone Saber didn't trust and wanted dead anyway.
Most people in the Underground know that the Presidential Limosine has an engine which runs on diesel and a ward to deflect magical attacks which runs on human blood. What most people don't know is where the magical attacks get redirected.
You heard that the Freak got taken down last night? Don't believe what you hear. The Freak is actually a hive monstrosity that spits out new bodies whenever one dies. That's how he keeps changing what he looks like.
The writing duo responsible for The Communist Manifesto are in fact the same people who wrote Malleus Malifacorum. What capitalism and witchcraft have to do with each other is beyond me . . .
Despite the rumors about the Freak still being around, the Occult Underground dropped out of a war footing, and The Cult of the Naked Goddess ran the city now.

Shal you really shouldn't have killed me and Saber. Because Saber missed a PM from INANTP telling Maximus was a seer and INANTP told me that Saber knew Maximus was a seer when he died, so I went nuts. I thought Saber was cleaning up loose ends that could discover him as the serial killer, inevitably when the mafia was eliminated I probably would have tried to have him killed and then we'd both go anyway, because either I'd get voted out for being an idiot or I'd get him voted out and then the other of us would as winners.
Plus, killing me is mean.
Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.

I came very close to killing someone else that night, honestly, but I wasn't sure how reliable your guard was and I could only go through guards once in the game, hence you and Saber on the same night.
My biggest regret is that I hit mafia a little TOO efficiently. One more night with the mafia in-game for their kills and I think I could have pulled it off.
Mine ended up being the nearly unlimited Undergroundmonorail. Mostly because I wasn't sure when Ebum was going to decide that I was actually mafia, tell jdark to not actually guard me, and get all three of us killed (because I was using my deal power on the deals I was making through him).
Truthfully though, I figured Ebum would action seer me before he actually killed me. He really needed to be sure and had the ability to do it. Since I knew I WASN'T the SK, I figured I'd just wait for it and let him get his proof.
Thanks for running this Capfalcon! I had a bunch of fun.

I literally spent like five days trying to seer you without spending my own action seer.
And never ended up using either that or the one time guard... which is how I use mana in every RPG ever.

Yeah, ebum kept fretting to me via PM that you were actually the SK.
I actually had at least 3 different people theorize to me via PM that they knew who the SK was, it was pretty funny.
Killing the mafia TOO well is the oldest of serial killer woes.
Seriously. I wish I was half that accurate as the village vig. Of the three (THREE!) mafia that I hit, the only one that I actually thought was mafia was Stever. The other two came as total surprises to me.
Anyway, I should get to bed but first a big thank you to @capfalcon for running the game. I love this setting, and this was my first crack at being a SK in a main game in years, so I had a blast. SO CLOSE.
thanks for hosting cap. definitely fun, and a good return to my phalla-ing.
can't wait to see the village/mafia boards.
Err, about those village boards.....
Just post your PM logs...that'll basically do it, right? :P
If I had any photoshoping skills, this would be a "Let me tell you about Saber PM logs" meme.
Ours is only 195... and me and jdark is like 200.
I sent and received nearly 2000 messages this game.

Woo! I'm not sure I've actually survived to the end as a village-aligned player before. I was a pornomancer who got converted to the cult last night. jdark would have been converted tonight if the game hadn't ended, leaving us with 5 out of 7 remaining players in the cult.
Grats to Shal on a game well played; you evaded detection well and really did a number on the mafia. Like you said though, that last part probably backfired. We were starting to worry that one of us was actually the SK despite the conversion.
On the night ebum and Saber died I was on the verge of busdriving the two of them, which I found amusing since it would have ended with both of them still dying to the serial killer.
The New Inquisition shall rise again! Though one of us was killed on day 2, and despite a string of failed conversions (seriously, every single day) mostly due to trying to convert soon-to-be-dead people, we shall return!
Yeah, on the night Shalmelo killed us, I was actually going through all the role claims trying to figure out who the SK might be. At about 11 it finally dawned on me that Mundane Dukes were odd/even and yet there was 5 of them.
Then I realized that Shalmelo had been giving me money everyday. Which seemed sort of weird. But I was tired, guarded and had already set up all the vigs, so I figured I'd just look at it again the next day once I got results.

My suspicion of you finally got me to half assedly get claims from everyone. But I didn't push hard enough, so didn't figure it out and I didn't have the case info you did.

Yup. Unfortunately, with the cults around I didn't want to give out role info in the Network PM. If they got it in their heads, it would make it easy for them to eliminate their competition. So I figured I'd built up enough cred that if I just said "Trust these people" you'd at least give them the benefit of the doubt if they didn't tell you who they were.
The case info was tough because I had money coming in from so many different places (the factions, the dukes and the merchants). Capfalcon and I had to go through the accoutning twice on a couple of nights.

Haha, I think I'd sort of forgotten by then I had tried to kill you.
It wasn't that I distrusted you in particular at that point as much as the whole situation (you casting doubt on Saber via PMs, and the combination of Saber having so much information via networking and the SK being so successful suggesting it might be him) leading me to suspect one of the two of you was evil.
I figured there was a good chance one or both of you were guarded, but I didn't have much else to do with my charges (vigging being kind of a PITA and ascending being boring) so I was about to give it a shot. My hope was that if one of you was the SK I'd get them to kill themself.
I ended up not doing it to save the charges since I figured busdriving might be more productive later on.

Funnily enough, I never got attacked or seered all game (and I DESPERATELY wanted to be seered, what with my thrall ability). It wasn't even until Gizzy on the final day that anyone even came out and asked me what my role was.
I even had my cover story picked out from the beginning, but by the time I had cause to use it it was too late.
Also, you got your guard up and running quick, Saber - I actually took a swing at you on day 2 to no avail once I realized how effectively you were gathering info. At that point I decided that as soon as you confirmed yourself I would use my one night of guard-busting to take you out. I just wish there had still been a mafia member or two standing after I did.

If so, lolololololol. I mean, nothing much at this point I can do if I convert the SK to the village and he still kills people.
I voted for Shalmelo because he wasn't on Saber's list of upstanding individuals.
For both our sake, I hope that doesn't happen.
