Graaaaaagh, and Dishonored shows up on sale. This is exactly what I was afraid of when I bought it.
Ah, whatever. It's Ice Cream Day and I've got ice cream
Edit: DA: Origins is a Baldur's Gate homage in a modern engine. Never quite surpasses BG, but it comes damn close to pacing it at times. Dungeons got repetitive and some of the romance stuff felt tacked on (as it so often does), but it's vastly eclipsed by plot and character flexibility. I could spend hours just dicking around in camp, poking random party members for their responses.
And it has Barkspawn. Games with good dog party members are mathematically superior to games without them. Get it. Get it now, before there's still time.
Someone tell me something about Dragon Age: Origins? Is this the one people like/dislike?
Origins is a big (very big) fantasy RPG in the vein of Baldur's Gate. But without AD&D mechanics. Graphically it's decent, and the sound design is pretty solid. The plot is a sprawling behemoth, across some stereotypical (and some not so much) but beautifully crafted environments. It's pretty, it's fun to play, it makes you want to know "what happens next", and it will quite easily eat 40 hours of your life on one run.
The expansion is more of the same really; it's not quite as sprawling, but it's not a bad little RPG.
The rest of the DLC in the Ultimate varies between "Meh" "Cool" and "Ohmygodwhyisthissohard" - it includes a few extra quests in the main game, including a companion (Shale) and a couple that take place independently, but you can import your character into (Golems of Amgarak).
At the sale price, if you like epic, fantasy, western RPG's, and you haven't played it before...do it now.
As always, I'm pondering witching to a digital copy, but it's one game I would recommend unreservedly to RPG fans.
ETA: Switching, not witching. But the typo was too amusing to remove.
Dragon Age 2 is a superior game. that's right I said it.
I agree, in this case the sequel is superior, just like in the Hitman series.
I was going to say that, while I disagree with the quoted sentiment, I do feel that DA2 was somewhat unfairly maligned and it was ultimately a decent RPG that nonetheless took a few steps back from its predecessor. Plot was spotty, but good characters (except Anders, no I'm not letting that one go) shored it up.
But after this, I'm just going to back away slowly and come back when the fire dies down.
So is the concensus that the DLC in the Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate edition worth it if you already have the base game? I've got Origins sitting unopened in my PS3 queue, is this worth upgrading?

Nearly all of DA2's problems can be explained with EA rushing it out of the door way too early. It's still a pretty good game and anyone going "worst game evaaaar" clearly hasn't played it themself.

I played it. I wanted all the characters to die in a fire. Idiots all. It is like they had writers incapable of writing more than one note characters.

Where did the WTF button go it is needed for exactly these situations.
Admittedly I actually liked a lot of the characters in DA2 more.

If you like shmups Satazius and Ether Vapor Remaster are cheap as dirt and lots of fun. They are both indie shmups from Japan that Capcom has published and localized as DD games. I think this is the coolest thing Capcom has done in recent memory.
These shmups are also less bullet hell than stuff like the Gundemonium Collection or the eXceed Pack. Lots and lots of arcadey pew pew fun to be had with thses.
Dragon Age: Origins is marred by some drawn-out portions and a combat system that is, to put it mildly, much easier the more mages you bring along with you.
Dragon Age 2 is marred by a rather blatant re-use of the same art assets and some plot contrivances and leaps of logic that are, to put it mildly, rather silly.
But yeah, $9 for the whole DA: O kit and kaboodle is a heck of deal if you're into RPGs.
Shoot, @Fig-D tried to give me Psychonauts while I was sleeping, but I already have two copies!
BTW, how do you send a message through Steam. I feel very dumb.
You should take it off your wishlist then :P . I thought you were committing the Steam's cardinal sin. Its right there at the bottom: wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, gluttony, and not owning Psychonauts.
Fig-D turned me around in regards to this cardinal sin.

Hmm. I'd say yes. "Wardens Keep" is a nice piece of additive story DLC, and not too overpowering. Very atmospheric, too.
Return to Ostagar is a fairly short piece of bumph that largely serves to dump some fairly nice armour on your character. Still, it's an interestign enough wander.
The Darkspawn Chronicles allows you to play a short campaign as a Darkspawn (er..bad guy) , generally murderising the goodies and causing havoc. But it's short, and there's no characterisation, so...it's pretty meh.
Leliana's Song is a bit of backstory for one of the main party NPC's, and plays a bit like a fantasy James Bond RPG. It doesn't relate to the main story very much, but it's interesting, quirky, and entertaining.
Golem's of Amgarak is one to play at/near the end of the game, as it relies on some story elements from that stage in the narrative. It's..OK, nothing special, but I do like the suppressed horror atmosphere. Some of the puzzles are annoying, and the final boss can be frustratingly difficult. Still, a middling bit of fun.
The Feastday Pranks/Gifts pack lets you mess around with companion approval - it's amusing, but I wouldn't pay for it.
Honestly, Wardens+Leliana+Ostagar is probably worth the sale price alone
Note: From memory, you get Blood Dragon Armor+Stone prisoner DLC with your copy of Origin.
Note again: Ultimate contains the "Awakening" expansion, which you didn't mention having in your PS3 queue; if you don't have that, then it is, no question, worth the price.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Time to trade up then. I'm betting I can unload my unopened PS3 copy on Amazon/Ebay for more than this will cost anyway.

If you pick up Dragon Age Origins today, go over and nab the Advanced Tactics Mod, it fixes some silly issues with party logic, and adds in a ton of awesome conditions to set for tactics.
Dishonored is on sale right now on Greenman. There's a code (GMG25-G4VDR-0ZL4Q) that will cut an additional 25% off the price as well. It activates on Steam.
its not letting me buy it. There is litterally no buy button on the page.
I noticed that too. Maybe they ran out of keys?
According to Total Biscuit, they did indeed run out of keys.
That DA:O pack is interesting. If I could import the 360 character I finished the base game with, I'd take it in a second. As is, I don't know if I want to play through the game again just to get to the new bits.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

If it had been a new IP, I think it would have been better received. As it was, I enjoyed it (except for the end), but it didn't feel like Dragon Age to me.

It's the good one, I never played the expansion but quite liked the game, and I hear it's even better on PC than consoles.
nvm got it, thanks for the offers though

DA:Origins dominates. Highly recommended.

Go for the first, you will (statiscally) like it more than the second.
For the record, I have played neither of them. Please dont hold me responsible in case of a regretable purchase

guess I'll just buy Torchlight 2 instead to sooth the pain

Decently probable, but really it's the GOTY edition for 7.50, that's a goddamn steal.
Also I am thankful that the daily deals run 48 hours, because I'm tapped out with Civ5 G&K and Torchlight II mocking me.
According to Total Biscuit, they did indeed run out of keys.
43hrs to decide ...
