I'm going to be traveling too much to get in on the winter sale madness this year, so instead I'm throwing down an 8 day Hanukkah giveaway. In honor of this sacred time, I've rewritten the Hanerot Halalu in a way that my girlfriend and her Jewish family would undoubtedly frown upon:
We play these games for the miracles and the wonders, for the redemption and the battles that you made for our monochrome ancestors, in those days at this season, through your holy sales. During all eight days of Steam-Hanukkah these games are sacred, and we are not permitted to make ordinary use of them except for to gift them in order to express thanks and praise to Your great Name for Your miracles, Your amazing values and Your tremendous discounts.
I can't make enough giveaways for everything just now, so I can only cover the first three days and I'll put the remaining few up as the previous ones end. I'll go ahead and open up the current listings for entries, but they'll expire a day at a time. And because this is a community thing, if you're not at least a moderately active forum poster I reserve the right to re-raffle the gifts, in the spirit of the holidays. That said, Happy Hanukkah, and lets do this:
As much as I love steam, this is a great price for these games (of which, amazingly I own none). Any suggestions which one I should dig into first?
Do they activate via UPlay?
You know, I thought they would but I can't figure out any way to do it. Of course I've never used Uplay before, but it seems that there isn't a way to input game keys into it.
Weird, so are the games just a downloadable file you install?
You cant just add games to your uplay account, what you have to do is download the files, install the game, launch the game. It then asks you for your uplay login. You log in, then it will ask you for the cd key. Once you enter the cd key the game is linked to your uplay account. Its a real bitch to gift games this way. (Thanks again @Big Isy)
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Why is today's deal called, "Tryst?" I'm obviously sleep deprived because this is really bugging me. It's a Starcraft knock-off. Does the game give some ostensible reason to call it "Tryst" or did the developers just pick a word they liked the sound of?
Or does "Tryst" in Indian English not have the huge, nearly exclusive romantic/sexual connotations that it does in American English?
(This is bothering me way more than it should. I should get off the internet and go take a nap...)
this thq bundle seems like a ridiculously (hilariously?) good deal
I mean I guess all those properties are sort of old at this point, but still. I never did play SR3 so I suppose I'll snag it
If you don't have SR3, then once you get it and play it you will punch your past self in the face for not having gotten it sooner.
It really is one of the absolute most fun games ever made. It's like someone took GTA, excised all the shitty boring missions, added in more insane fun ones, and surgically removed the stick from its ass.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
Last repost - this ends in a few hours when I get home. I've gotten some really good entries but keep 'em coming. More people need to enter the bad specs contest because if I am the only poor person in the Steam thread it'll make me depressed.
I have three contests. You may enter as many of them as you please, but you can only win one of them.
Contest Number 1- Look Into Your Past
Like many of you, I have an ancient email account that I created in highschool that I still hold on to to this day. I use it when I need to give my email address for something so that I can keep my main email account spam free.
The winner of this contest will be the person who PMs me an image of the date on the oldest email they still have saved. Feel free to obscure the subject and/or body of the email, I just need something showing the date you sent or received the email, and that it is in fact an email. Here is an example:
The winner of this contest will receive the $5 Steam game of their choice.
Contest Number 2 - Spread Some Knowledge:
I love TED talks. Sure, there is some controversy over the selection of speakers and occasional hubbubs over speakers with provocative topics, but for the most part they are a series of interesting pieces detailing thoughts and ideas that are available freely on the net. Everything from discounting the system of "Copyright Math" to Bill Gates releasing mosquitoes into a crowd full of people while talking about Malaria treatment to Mike Rowe speaking about the value of hard work and hard workers while describing the sensation of removing sheep testicles with his teeth are included in their lineup.
The winner of this contest will be the person who PMs me a link to the most interesting or novel TED talk. No subjects are off limits.
The winner of this contest will receive the $5 Steam game of their choice.
Contest Number 3 - Being Poor Sucks:
Plenty of people in this thread have quad core machines with 8GB of RAM and GPUs overclocked so high their heat output rivals that of our sun, but I figure there have got to be some of us that don't. So, if you're like me and are stuck gaming on a PC out of the stone age than now is your time to shine. Do you have a woeful dual (or even single) core? Are you stuck with integrated video? Steam hardware stats clearly show that there are some of you out there somewhere.
The winner of this contest will be the person who PMs me an image from Speccy or PC Wizard or some other program (or both of their PC's System and Display tabs in dxdiag) clearly detailing the weakest system specs. The CPU type and speed, the amount of RAM, and the GPU must be included. The machine HAS to be the primary machine that you use for Steam gaming (we're on the honor system here). In terms of weighing CPU and GPU power, the overall weakest system will be determined by me using a completely unscientific scale.
The winner of this contest will receive the $10 Steam game of their choice.
Contest limited to active forum members only, and will run until Saturday night. Good luck!
Wikipedia says there's a bunch of characters as DLC for the PC version of Street Fighter X Tekken, but I don't see them anywhere on Steam or GFWL. Where are they?
And they never released the Gold Edition or w/e of RE5 right? I fucking love Mercenaries mode and I would like to be able to play that on my PC, but I already played the hell out of it on Xbox and really would want the new guys for that.

I'm going to laugh if the winner of the bad specs contest has an i7 with a 660, but was the only one who entered.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.
Xbox - PearlBlueS0ul, Steam

If no one else enters it is not outside the realm of possibility for something similar to what you have described to occur.

If my big computer hadn't died at the beginning of this year I may have won. It was a six year old machine with an Athlon X2 3800 processor.
Randomly chose a game out of my backlog and got to Saira from the Swedish combo. Didn't think much of it until I left the first planet, now I'm excited.
You know what I don't like? Steam comments on stuff like recommendations or videos or screenshots or whatever are ordered so that the newest is on top. I think it should be the reverse order.
Finally making some good headway through Bastion. I've been told that the ending is supposed to be of note, and the game's tone has just gotten decidedly darker, so i'd like to see how it wraps up.
Reading that interview makes me think that Valve won't try and release their own exclusive "Steambox" hardware but instead perhaps take a page from Intel's "Ultrabook" campaign and license Steam branding and software to some PC hardware makers as long as they release PCs that fall under whatever hardware, size, and price specifications qualify as a "Steambox".

Also tryst doesn't mean three of something.
It's like calling a random Call of Duty clone, "Cuddle."

You should print that out as a massive poster and put it on your wall, cross them off as you go etc.
