Evil corrupts one of the main characters. The other main characters have to kill them.

I don't remember that happening like at all outside d2 and 3

Starcraft 1: kerrigan, 2 also if you count the hivemind. Warcraft 3, arthas. WoW: everything (technically still arthas, I don't know I stopped paying attention to the wow story)

Yeah man, I hate it when movies are just like other movies.

Like Avengers. It was so dumb, because it was about superheroes saving the day.
Oh wait that was actually awesome.

when exactly do you kill kerrigan or arthus in either of those games?

the final campaigns are zerg and undead

    Well they try to.

Video game characters can't die, then you can't make sequels.

Heroes saving the day have been the basis of many good movies
    Also many more bad movies

The stuff inside is usually more important

if anything 'main character gets corrupted then kills everyone else' is a bigger theme

well until they revive people like illidan and kaelthas

    twice

Yeah, Metzen has an incomprehensible hard-on for power corrupting people.
It happens every. single. fucking. time.
I get it, it's a useful metaphor, but its so overused arg.

As far as whether or Blizzard is making a Warcraft/Diablo/Starcraft movie... who says they're not?
You won't know until they're far enough along; they always play those cards close to their chest.

(I'm not saying they are, either, I'm just saying really there's no way to know)

In my time at Valve, there was talk bandied about now and then about making some sort of movie. If there is a game company that I think could make a decent movie, it'd be them.

I think Blizzard is quite capable of making a good movie.
Their cinematics are pretty much the best in the business.

And even when they hire others, the quality they produce is great.
Case in point the animated short for D3:

And I'll punch @tugga in the goddamn exhaust port for that jab.

they'd have to hire someone from outside to do the writing if they wanted to make a good movie

No, they have plenty of good writers.
They need to just let someone else besides Metzen oversee it.

And as awesome as Blizzard is, I'd bet they don't have anywhere near the cash reserves that Valve does.

I'm quite sure that Blizzard has higher gross revenue, but they also probably have substantially higher operating costs than Valve does.

I could be wrong, I'll admit. But I I think some of you may be severely underestimating how much scratch Valve has just laying around.

Estimating at where they were at the end of my time there along with the average pace of growth that I saw, I would not be surprised if the sheer volume of cash they have right now is in the 10-figure range.

I was really looking forward to the story of a rowdy team of baseball players who discover the true meaning of Christmas from a robot cowboy angel.

I remembered Gore Verbinski was in talks to direct it, so I went and looked it up to see if it was still dead

It appears to be, but I uncovered something more important that I didn't know

Gore Verbinski is responsible for the Budweiser frog ads

Game studios don't make movies for the same reason that movie studios don't make games. They just aren't set up for it. Unless you're Disney-Pixar or Dreamworks, CG movies are a supermassive blackhole of financial risk. And whether it's CG or (especially) live action, it makes way more sense financially to go to a company that actually knows what they're doing and work with them to make something that has any chance of turning a profit.
