I think he pretty clearly established why he likes LoZ: it was designed to encourage exploring.
Mario is a platformer with most levels designed to be completed in a few minutes by jumping and spraying things. LoZ has you adventuring and searching the land for Tri-Foce pieces. Yet Mario has the more obtuse puzzles (the most complicated thing in LoZ is probably using the whistle on the lake based off a badly translated hint, unless I'm forgetting something).
Now if you want to talk obtuse puzzles from the NES era, you need to talk about Castlevania 2...which I believe he's stated he doesn't like.
And yet Arin was perfectly happy with extremely obtuse puzzles back in Zelda 1.
I think it's just his incompetent nostalgiawhoreing that makes itself shown yet again.
It's a bit different for a game from 1987 to have really obscure puzzles made more confusing by badly written dialogue than for a game from 2002 to do the same thing. The fun part of Mario is not figuring out which toilet stall you're supposed to jump on. It is solving difficult obstacles with the abilities given. There's a LOT too much "lol figure out what the eff the designers were thinking with this Shine" in Sunshine. More of it than there was in 64 or in Galaxy or Galaxy 2.
Seriously? Damn, it HAS been a while since I played.
It was one of the biggest flaws of the game in my eyes. I would long jump everywhere in SM64 to save time, just like how I would constantly be rolling with Link in OoT because I thought it was quicker.

Um... you could either spray water and slide, which ramped up to some pretty impressive speed if you stayed on a constant trajectory, or mash the B button to do a continual belly-flop, or alternate between B and A (doing the belly-slide, then flipping back to the neutral position, then belly-sliding again ad nauseam). Those all got you around basically as fast as you could want to go.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
have you guys used the shotgun blast with the water cannon? it was like a quick one-two mash with the jump button and the water cannon button. not sure if it was intended or not, but the water output was tremendous and would clear a sizable area of slime in front of you.

That is definitely intended, and it seems to come in handy a lot in speedruns!

So did anyone else notice that the Kirby in the preview image for the Kirby's Epic Yarn videos has been gradually getting bigger with every episode? I only noticed it just now because Kirby is now taking up at least 1/3 of the available real estate, and now I feel stupid for not spotting it sooner.

If it helps, they didn't start doing it until episode 11, so you probably got used to the preview image and stopped looking.

It's my favorite game of all time. I don't think I will touch a Grump walkthrough ... it's too near and dear to me to watch them biff it endlessly. They aren't going to grind at all and the moving wall will be impossible for them without decent Earth and that'll be the end of their playthrough.

Remember, they didn't even get to a second party member last time they tried. How much of that was Arin and how much was Jon is tough to discern, but I don't have high hopes for a full playthrough.

Danny seems really passionate about it and I don't think they wanna abandon another playthrough, so I think they'll tough it out.
Might require some offscreen grinding though, yeah.

It takes, what, an hour to get to where the girl joins you, right? Danny's euphoria will carry them till then and with two actually competent (well, semi-competent :P) players instead of the braindead AI, they should be able to make it quite far. They're not above using an FAQ or looking stuff up when their stuck, as the recent Sunshine episodes have shown.
Secret of Mana is a masterpiece. I wish Seiken Densetsu 3 could've gotten a translation, as that lends itself way easier to multiplayer bashing RPG fun especially if you choose a hitter heavy party like Kevin, Duran and Lise. Honestly, I really wish they would just translate SD3 and release it here in America. It's a better RPG than a lot of the things they've put out recently and more people need to appreciate its majesty.
Don't miss today's exciting episode of Danny & Arin in Secret of Mana, in which:
- Mantis sticks it in dabutt.
- Mantis eats out dabutt.
- Dabutt is compelled by a talking sword to pull it out.
- Tavern Girl shares a moment with dabutt.

It occurs to me that Arin doesn't know how to long jump.

I'm not pissed, just surprised. I would think Arin of all people would get that reference.

I hope they bring in Ross to play the Sprite.
Want to play co-op games? Feel free to hit me up!
Acceptable if he never speaks.
Making Ross the dopey looking tiny 'it' creature, that they can make fun of and boss around the entire time, sounds perfect for him.
Considering they originally gave up on it pretty quick, I didn't really see the problem.
If it was something memorable that they actually finished like Goof Troop or something, then I could see it.
There are some games from the Jon-era I'd love to see them tackle with Danny though.
I stand by my statement that its a dick move to pull on friends.
Guys please let's not do this.
Instead we hope for them to release the rest of sonic 06

I got a little excited when I saw your ship.
Somebody said at some point that they'd actually finished Sonic 06 and they just hadn't released the footage yet. This was probably not true.
Yes, this is true. But nobody is your friend during vs. games.
