Not like "wow that's hot" more like "it's FUCKED UP ... And kinda cool." still though wow.

For someone to read that book and come away with the impression that she was raped and for that to be the only notable occurrence. It really made me think about what the standard comic audience is like

You can go hang out at forums for Injustice for plenty of more gems like that (not the Injustice threads at this forum, but like actual forums dedicated to Injustice).

It almost makes me think DC might have been on to something with their 90s revival after seeing how some of these people think ("EXTREME" and "Badass" are the words of the day). Well, except I don't think a lot of these people have any intention of buying a comic book.

Although I was surprised at the amount of people who seem to at least have a rough idea as to who Cassandra Cain and Power Girl are, considering their limited exposure outside of comics. Also the amount of people claiming Barbara was better as Oracle than as Batgirl (though admittedly, some of them are probably only saying that because they didn't want Barbara taking one of the DLC slots).

More importantly, Cass and Steph were both leagues better as Batgirl.

HERE is an article that highlights some of the better Steph-Batgirl scenes.

Though it's not in the article itself, it also links to THIS image which was Steph catching Proxy up on what was going on with the Bat-family.

Ya it was always my hope growing up when the internet was fresh, that over time, real life standards would slowly overtake the horribleness being anonymous brought...

Nope it went the other way, and the horrible spilled out into the real world.

Since the internet has always been oddly backwards tho, maybe it's finally the storm before the calm?

Thanks for posting that. I've ready very little of Steph as Batgirl. I remember her as Spoiler (and as Tim's girlfriend) back in the 90's, but haven't read anything about her other than when she crossed over into Batman trades over the last decade. That article makes me want to go get some trades and read more, those were all pretty awesome moments and I wish she was still Batgirl in the New 52. I followed Barbara's new series for a while, but I honestly feel like she was a stronger character as Oracle.

Any suggested reading (in the form of trades, preferably,) for Steph?

  • Merlin the TunaMerlin the Tuna Registered User regular
Miller's (excellent) run is in 3 trades - Batgirl Rising, The Flood, and The Lesson. For tie-in stuff with Tim Drake, she's in both Red Robin: The Grail and Red Robin: Collision. I really enjoyed RR, but you can safely skip it for the time being with the following summary. "Before Tim leaves Gotham, he's kind of a complete dick to Steph." Ta-da~.

Yeah, I'm going to have to pick up some pre-52 Steph as Batgirl trades.

Are those scans pretty descriptive of the series? Cause they just look FUN,which is something lacking in the 52.

I was looking through the CBR forums and found that Brett Booth is drawing the next two issues of JLA. Anyway, while looking through the forum I saw this one guy saying that he's not going to pick up the issue because Booth posts a lot of militant atheist cartoons on his blog and once insulted him for complaining about them. Wanting to see if he was exaggerating I checked out Booth's blog myself, and the guy is an asshole. Every Sunday he posts about religion in the most ass way possible:
    http://demonpuppy.blogspot.com/search/label/Sunday Blasphemy?updated-max=2012-05-13T10:22:00-06:00&max-results=20&start=20&by-date=false

And I found the insult that guy was talking about:

Brett im a christian but have no Problem that you are a Atheist, im a artist and i respect you as one, i loved your new 52 wonder girl redesign by the way.

what i have a problem with is that you choose to come on here every sunday and bash religon of all types. yes you are absolutly free to do as you wish, but WHY would you choose to do this, to bash, mock, and degrade things that millions of people hold truly dear to there hearts. it shows exactly what kind of Inconsiderate, cruel, sad and despicable Personality you have deep down.
you can call me a troll if you wish but that doesnt change the truth.
you bash the religious for being intolerant of the non religious.
But now your the non religious choosing to be intolerant of the religious.

As a fellow Artist i Really truly am sadened that you wont choose to be better than this.

    MOVIEARTMAN,

I bash for several reasons. The main reason is to point out to you that there are people who don't think as you do. By mocking and making fun I'm trying to get you to THINK that maybe some of the stuff you believe IS silly or disgusting or bad. By mocking and poking fun we embare-ass you, we make you think twice. Or that's the hope.

Honestly if you religious people (and yes you are all being lumped together usually, but I do single out Christians for this very specific reason) would remember that not EVERYONE follows your faith and so your faiths RULES should not apply to them. Unfortunately you Christians keep trying to ram your rules down everyone else's throats. You complain about Shira law but you are no better, forcing your crazy ideas on me when I want NOTHING to do with them. If you would keep these religious rules to yourself we wouldn't make fun. We wouldn't care. Do you hear me bitching about wiccan's? Not usually, they keep their religion to themselves.

So my cruel personality that wants EVERYONE to have equal rights, that wants everyone to have things like health care and food, things the rulers of you religion keep telling you to vote against, that's cruel to you? We're not trying to stone people or kill them for being gay. We just want you uber religious people to leave others the fuck alone. That's cruel? A few jokes and a billboards are offensive to you and make us evil? All the religious crap I have to hear on a daily basis is just something I have to put up with so YOU can feel better about yourself? Wow, I'm a total bully, you have shown me the way!

You don't understand what tolerance is. I tolerate your religion, I just ask that you don't force it on others. But you can't do that. You pass laws to force me to follow it. THAT is intolerant. I wish you religious people would actually learn what that word means.

I don't care if you're an artist or a fricken dog walker, and 'you're better than this' crap is yet another way of trying to get people to shut up so you can keep imposing your will on others. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Oh and thanks for the compliment before you decided to take me to task. I feel horrible letting you down like that;)

I've been a little lax with my bullying and mocking, I guess I'll have to do better next week!

    Bestest!

    Brett

I guess it comes down to the ultimate intention here. If this is all about cultivating a group of people that will hate him for doing pointedly atheist comics online, that's the dark side of promotion on the internet, and I'd be bothered by that. But if this is just about him expressing his views on his personal blog, I'm having a hard time finding fault with how he spends his time. I would suppose his disabling of comments on the site points to the later possibility, and within a week, everyone involved will likely be back to whatever they were doing beforehand.

I don't even read anything DC and the ending to Justice League OF AMERICA!!! issue 4 pissed me off.
Not just because it's a woman getting "friged" for really no reason but most of the scans daily commenters pointed out that she'll more than likely be resurrected in like a month due to previous hints. So it's a "shocking" death that will be undone pretty much right after it happened. Only Thor's death in Fear Itself annoyed me as much and at least it was forshadowed and intregal to the story being told, plus they waited half a year before bringing him back.

“If investments in the banks fail, ‘Oh, it’s a tragedy,’ ” he said, speaking extemporaneously for more than 40 minutes at a Pentecost vigil last weekend. “But if people die of hunger or don’t have food or health, nothing happens. This is our crisis today.”

The Bible repeatedly commands us to help the needy, and condemns those who take advantage of the poor. God told His people in the Old Testament, "I command you to be openhanded toward ... the poor and needy in your land" (Deuteronomy 15:11). Jesus told His disciples to "Sell your possessions and give to the poor" (Luke 12:33).

I think you'll find the vast majority of people who call themselves Christians will cite either the Pope or Billy Graham as an unimpeachable authority on the meaning of the religion.
