I don't even read anything DC and the ending to Justice League OF AMERICA!!! issue 4 pissed me off.
Not just because it's a woman getting "friged" for really no reason but most of the scans daily commenters pointed out that she'll more than likely be resurrected in like a month due to previous hints. So it's a "shocking" death that will be undone pretty much right after it happened. Only Thor's death in Fear Itself annoyed me as much and at least it was forshadowed and intregal to the story being told, plus they waited half a year before bringing him back.
Yeah, pretty much. It's a no win situation, so I have no idea why they did it.
You either kill one of the few prominent female characters (in a really, really bad way) or rob any suspense and impact by bringing her back next month
It's pretty obvious that it's a fake out. I'm not really bothered by it though. I rather be robbed of suspense than have a character killed for the sake of a event. DC has surprisingly been keeping good on its promise not to kill characters and I hope they keep it that way. Minus whatever Morrison is doing.

Have a character take over the mantle and the series temporarily after she's killed.
I picked up a new Batman comic and the Joker has cut off his own face. I think the CCA was invented decades ago to censor gory comic books but did they ever get that violent?
I wonder why horror comics never managed to come back even after companies stopped using the CCA? I guess so many decades without them that they lost their market.
I vaguely remember Tales from the Crypt relaunching a few years ago but I don't think it lasted very long. I have the first issue of that relaunch somewhere but I seem to recall it being rather tame.
I know they did a Sabrina re-launch a few years back with her in a shojo manga style, but they really should try that approach with her again as a full-on black magic bitch straight outta Tales from the Crypt.

Normally, I'd be in total agreement about not using bitches as a blanket term for women. However, Sabrina did just turn some asshole into a melting zombie and told the reader "well that ended well. What, did that bother you? Can't see why."
Can the word bitch be empowering? I'd like to see them totally go with this. She damns some ignorant jerk's soul and is all ice cold about it, maybe gets a little snarky.
I'm tempted to turn this into a tangent. Is "bitch" not cool but can women, or even men, be "bitchy"? Isn't stone-cold bitch an apt descriptor for certain characters like Amanda "the Wall" Waller? Is it gendered pejoratives that are problematic? Is this any more egregious than calling some male jerk a "hardon" "jagoff" or "total dick"?

Just to be clear: It's not Sabrina who turns the guy into a melting zombie, it's the kindly white-haired old teacher on that last page.

There is a lot of baggage attached to the word Bitch.
Those second set of scans make it much clearer that Sabrina really is just playing the Tales from the Crypt narrator role. That makes more sense. Still, I'd love to see a reboot where she just completely steals the souls of people who deserve it.
I do think conversations about the role of loaded terms, offensive pejoratives, and hateful language in popular culture is an important one. Not just in how they're used in the medium itself, but how we understand and shape their meaning for the larger culture. But I understand that this thread is for expressing the problems that we have with comics and not the problems we have with how people talk about comics, so I'll move on.

I was going to make a post in here the other day asking if Tom Brevoort was a well-known asshole after reading some comment he made on that "Golden Age of Marvel" blog he runs, but hey, now I know!

What?
Brevoort was fine there. He was snarking at an anonymous asshole questioning Kelly Sue's credentials, though I don't know about the prior response the anonymous ass was referring to. Based on what is in the quoted post, Brevoort gave the guys insinuations exactly the respect they deserved.

Hey Tom, why isn't there more diversity in Marvel's writing staff? Do all minority writers suck too bad to work for your company? Are there really only 2 female writers capable of producing Marvel-quality work? (Amazing coincidence: Of the two females, one of them is married to one of your favorite company writers! What are the odds of something like???) Guess women and non-whites just need to keep writing and hope to one day maybe be good enough.
We hire writers not based on their ethnicity or background, but based on their writing. And possibly it’s become a self-fulfilling prophesy, but it seems like there are fewer writers of talent that are interested in writing the sort of material that Marvel does and have had the opportunity to prove it who are women or non-whites or whatever. But it does mean that there’s potentially an opportunity for a creator who has a strong voice and point of view and the skills to put it over. That all said, the cheap shot at Kelly Sue is really beneath you—like everybody else who works here, we hired her based on her ability, not on her family tree. Especially given what you’re proselytizing for, it’s counter-productive to be jealous of somebody who’s found their way in.
It's a classy and diplomatic response, but he fails to address why women and minorities don't get the opportunity to write comics when it's the publisher who creates those opportunities. It's not just happenstance.
That is true. He falls back on the old "we hire talented people/we don't want quotas" excuse, which is what people in entrenched power structures have been saying for a long time to people who don't have access to those structures. Reaching out to minorities in a way that gives them opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have doesn't have to be a quota situation.
I'm also 6'2. No neck problems, but I do have back problems. And problems with having enough leg room (though some restaurants and theaters are getting a lot better about it...though in theaters I probably make the leg room problem worse because I slouch in my seat because I'm paranoid about blocking whoever sits behind me).
Most annoying thing though? Fucking spider webs. Especially at this time of year. I'll walk through a door and get spider webs in my hair because nobody else knew it was there because they walked under it and some spider thought the top of the door frame was a boss place to build a home.
Then I'm stuck feeling like I have spiders crawling over me until I can take a shower.

Interesting that the person asking about more justice in the hiring process brought a prejudice of their own to the table.
It's an interesting assumption because you see some people saying "I do not believe discrimination happens, but that person only succeeded because they are a minority." and other people saying "I believe discrimination is a serious problem, and that person only succeeded because they are a minority."

Risky plan, betting on a bully's ability to accurately translate Latin.

I feel a bit disturbed because I like KS. I finally got to see KS in person for the first time about ten-eleven days ago (a week ago Friday), and I was delighted like a child.
So I want to set this cowardly dickbag on fire, not least of which is because he didn't even have the balls to sign his name to his bullshit.
