So, what's the game like? I tried it for a very brief moment before getting annoyed with matchmaking. Is that all this is going to be is matchmaking or is it going to become something grander when released proper?
I have no idea what you're trying to ask here.
"Matchmaking" is how players are picked for each team in a game. What do you mean by "is that all this is going to be is matchmaking"?
Blutraserei is probably asking about, like, community warfare - instead of random matchmaking queues will we be able to form up into groups, attack and defend planets, etc? And the answer is "in the future yes" assuming the game doesn't die before then. At the rate they add things it will take 5 years for community warfare to get in and 10 years for it not to be broken, though.

Their ETA for Community Warfare is January.
How many C-Bills do you want to bet that they get working community warfare in by January?

Hmmm, scuttlebutt is that potentially TAG's might get buffed to 750m. I already like them at 450m, so if this is true that wouldn't be that bad.
So I've been noticing that ECM is just very helpful in a fight, so I'm looking into saving up for an AS7-D-DC. The hardpoints seem very restrictive for an assault mech, so I'm having some trouble coming up with theoretical loadouts that I like (the fact that ECM is 1.5 tons is just flat out irritating). Does anybody have any suggestions? I've thought of a couple LLas (or ER LLas perhaps) with a couple UAC5s or AC2s and some SRMs, or a Gauss and a couple ER PPCs and some SRMs, but I'm not sure I like those setups.

ER Large laser is too much heat for the increased range, compared to how often you get to actually fire at max range.

Bad news, it's already December 3049 according to their ISN news flashes. :P

ugh... really need an XL350 to run a proper atlas. my as7-d is lacking...
I do pretty well with mine, using the standard engine it comes with. It's slow as hell, but most people still have the mentality that first encounter = fight to death instead of using their speed well.
I can't count the number of times I've run into a Hunchback or Awesome that just froze as soon as I turned the corner and tried to back away in a straight line. It never ends well for them. It even eats every other Atlas I've run into with the sole exception of those rocking the AC/20 and 3x SRM6 combo.
Let the record show that I boated PPCs before they were cool.
I am a battlemech hipster.
Yeah but now that means you can't use them anymore
They're too mainstream
You're new at this hipster thing, aren't you? Now I get to boat them ironically.

Lots of green in those videos.
Greeeeen stomp stomp GREEEEEEEEEEN stomp stomp stomp GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN GREN GREEN blue GREEEEEEEEEN stomp stomp GREEEN BLUE GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN bullet green stomp *enemy mech falls over*
Game balance* in this game is exactly the same as every other massively multiplayer game which is kind of amusing since they have all these intricate rules they could apply and then they seem to take the approach of fucking with something and then watching to see how it works out just like every other online game.
*as in which weapon is the best thing to use at any given time and thus appears in every mech.
Still maybe I'll have another go since it looks like I'll be able to learn how to shoot straight without my cockpit being set to vibrate.

Honestly, I wasn't sure how to word it. I was under the impression after first reading about it, that MWO would be more than just Blacklight: Battle Robits Edition.

If by "green" you mean MLas, well, even in TT the MLas was king. Hell, I rocked 'mechs that had nothing but MLas and fucking owned, as long as there weren't any Clanners around to ruin my day.

I'm fine with MLASes being everywhere because they're supposed to be everywhere, they're a workhorse weapon. Generally pretty efficient, but now with enough drawbacks that even a bunch of them isn't a win button.
Though right now, people take lasers all the time because they are really the only thing that's it's possible to really hit consistently with. The crappy netcode makes hitting almost anything, even slow-moving mechs, reliably in a spot that you want to target a complete crapshoot. Hitting a particular panel on a mech going even measly 50 kph is almost totally random if you aren't using a laser weapon or they aren't running directly at or away from you.

9 times out of 10, Mlasers are the best bang for your buck. Builds that use none will be very specific, built around maybe one or two hardpoints with nothing else, or will be fitted to the nines with big weapons and have severe heat issues.

Gauss/ERPPC/2xSRM6 'phract, represent.
A lot of people were running Dragons with a Gauss and PPC with nothing else. Doesn't mean they wouldn't have been better served with a full array of Mlasers.
I was going to build a 2xPPC and Gauss Cataphract 1X. Since I know it would take a ton of toys to fit (Emma Stone and family) I went with a 2xLL and Gauss to start with. Turns out it's rocking face, so I'll throw a 3rd LL next. Tons of good pinpoint, and great reach. Oh, and an XL 300 from my Jenners.
What is with all these AFKers. 3 of the last 4 games I played had them.
To be fair, it's entirely possible that an AFK is someone who crashed when the game loaded. Then again, there are dedicated AFK grinders with no weapons and armor.
I mean, if you're not repairing anyway, wouldn't it be waaaay faster to rush the enemy and have them kill you so you can quit?

They could always alt+f4.
Though dedicated AFKers (or rather grinders) actually kill themselves at the start of the match via overheating ammo explosions. Quicker than getting the enemy to kill you.
What's the difference in repair bills between overheating and the enemy killing you? Either way, I believe the game auto-repairs to minimal engine functionality and gives you 75% ammo free if you don't rearm/repair
I picked up the Hero-phract. Very enjoyable. Pulled the XL out and tossed in a standard. Upgraded to Endo and DHS. I managed to fit 3 AC5, 3 Med Las, and 4 tons of ammo. Max armor and not a single crit space left for anything else, runs at a breezy 1.3 heat effeciency ratio.

We also lost like forty matches to Goons cause, well, goons.
I like the 2x LLAS, Gauss, 2x SRM6 build.

Yeah, but when you say 'goons', people instantly know what group you're referring to, is all.
