Anyone know if PGI has any intentions of lowering their hero mechs down from nearly $30 a mech? I'd like one, but I flat out cannot justify a purchase like that.
Judging by how many I see, they would be silly to. It's a rarity if I go more than two matches without seeing a hero mech on the opposing side.
Yeah, there is always at least one in every match. I'd say something about how I can't believe how well they're doing but I remember how many premium tanks were running around WoT and I own three of the hero mechs so yeah...
I'd like to see the stats on how many people who've bought hero mechs did so with founders money. I myself bought the Cashaphract, but I believe only so because there was a disconnect between the real money and the MC I was spending. If I'd had to go to their money store and see the actual amount right before purchase I think that would have been a fairly big turn off.
Having said that, with the freemium model I'm happy to pay when I feel the product deserves it. Thus far MWO is massively delivering on that front, so I'd certainly be looking for ways to spend money on it.
Putting it off for the time being, but I could see myself grabbing a Cashaphract.
Generally I just use MC for mech bay slots though. My RPG hoarding tendancies remain strong and I kind of like having a small stable of mechs to choose from.
Edit: even if all I really run at the moment are my Raven and Catapult.

Ok, so the part about the lag armor is competely bullshit. I just spent 5 minutes fighting a fucking ECM + Streak Raven in my AC20 YLW, wherein I only just manage to strip off all his armor and take off his leg before he fucking kills me. I then proceed to watch him kill my 2 remaining teammates (non-ECM Commando + Dragon) and win the game.
I am willing to pay some money to support the developers just not at the price they are asking. I work it out to say $60 for a full game and a game have say 15 mechs. So $4, 5 a mech seem reasonable and up to $10 for a really good mech. So far all the hero mech are way over that.
Then I thought I could buy some colour but turns out you pay for every time you change and for every mech?
So only mech bay is not ridiculously priced to me. I am waiting to see what community warfare brings us in terms of paid for items. Any big player of WOT that can give us some informes guesses or clues?

PGI amended the patch notes pretty quick after the initial release to remove virtually all references to lag armor, then posted something on the MWO boards saying that lag armor stuff in this week's patch notes was a mistake. They needed more time to deal with the lag armor fixes, but had accidentally left lag armor notes in this week's patch stuff by accident.
So for right now, if you feel like there are no changes to the lag armor, that's because you're exactly right.

i look at it as just another hobby or MMO. i dont mind dropping some cash for mechs and mech bays, but silly little trinkets i dont buy.
As far as F2P models go, this game has a good balance aside from some rough edges. Mostly, if they'd fix the paint scheme costs I'd be a lot happier. Just make it c-bills for any color (but expensive, even have repainting costs if they want to), and limit MC to unlock special decals/camo or something.
Given the decent polish, number of maps and modes, I'd say $20-$30 is a fair pricetag if they deliver on near-term promises. That'll get you a Marmot and 4 mechbays, which isn't too shabby.

That's not entirely accurate.
This post over on reddit indicates that there are some changes. When I joked about the removal of this portion from the patch notes, Garth provided the following response:
The worry was that everyone would read that and assume it was fixed - it wasn't. The 'fix' limits the severe cases where you'd be trying to hit someone who was moving all over the place. You still need to lead, lag still affects it, etc. It's just based on your own lag now.
Merc units can have preferences on who they will and won't work with.
Example; the Gray Death Legion regularly worked with the Steiners, and due to the incidents that led to their creation, will generally avoid working for Marik where possible (exceptions were made, however).
Liao merc unit or GTFO. I used to know a bunch of FASA devs, and so was a named character in one of the liao sourcebooks. They is the best.
Well then, I'll GTFmycoat and GTFO and make my own unit with blackjack. And hookers.
I think you know where the rest of this is going.
Yes, because I was being 100% serious. I like GTFmycoat though.

Did you know Chris Brewer?
Nope. I knew two other Chrises - Bones and Chunga. I'm sure Mr. Brewer knew more people than I did, but I mostly only saw people in the flesh at Gencon. It looks like Mr. Brewer was on the software side of things.

I'd be more than happy to pay the, what, $18? for the wang, if they'd just have more reasonable cash shop values than having to go all the way to $30 for it
Best hero mech (to me at least) appears to be either the Flame or the Muromets. The desire to run triple UAC/5's calls to me but so far I have stayed strong.

Gotta admit, I was pretty pleased with that as well.

bah, n/m. Editing quote trees is my undoing.
The sound seemed different when piloting my Atlas last night. Not as much reverb? There didn't seem to be as much weight implied by the mech sounds.

It's the only trips ballistics mech that has hardpoints for a decent build. Everything else has them in one section, which means wasted hardpoints, gimmick builds, or MGs (which is all of the above). The sad thing is, three hardpoints is ideal for anything less than Assault if they don't shaft you with the placement.
And qaud on the 4X with no flexibility with E and M points leaves it in the shafted pile with the HBK-4G and CDA-3C.
If they gave me Orky decorations for my 4X I would be fine with it.

So, am I really the only one who has friendlies drop on and off the minimap at random? I'm aware of the effect of enemy ECM, but this happens even right at the start of the game.
I mentioned this in vent expecting other people to be familiar with it, but no one seemed to know what the fuck I was talking about.

Happens to me too, I figured it was just some random bug or maybe a late loader.
I can't, as a rule, tell where the rest of my team is for this reason, even absent any hostile ECM. I kinda thought everyone had to deal with this. Sometimes I can see everyone, and sometimes guys behind me won't show up. It does seem to be restricted to friendlies that I don't have line of sight to, which was what made me think this was intentional.
I get friendlies dropping off my radar too, blip and all. It's a PITA in the early game since I think the blip might be a targetable enemy.
I've seen the friendly HUD triangle disappear as a guy goes around a building 50m in front of me and reappear when I get LOS. I have no clue why it happens either.

Yeah, I know exactly what you guys are talking about here; I first noticed it months and months ago. Best I can figure is that you've got some weird blind spot directly behind you for allied signatures for some reason; I've backed up into plenty of allies the radar didn't even show as there. And yeah, it's a pain; I hate continually get the blip on/off for radar contacts and it just turns out to be allies trailing behind me.
Same thing happens to me, and its been happening since before ECM was implemented, so i don't think its that... for me, they drop off radar if i'm not actually *looking* at them.
There's no reason my Cicada should kill a Cent, keep a Stalker, Hunchback, and two Cataphracts busy lower city, strip one Cat and almost core the hunch, but lose the match 2-8.

So that's what that is. I had tuned the bleeps, the sweeps, and the creeps out almost entirely since I had figured they were a bug of some sort.

I would accept some of those to replace my AC/2s, yes I believe I would.
I'd like to see that.
That was me. And that's because I had the perverse experience of watching Doc more or less 6v1 a team the other day and win in his Cicada.
mine has 2 SRM6's instead of the streaks. So many matches won with that mech.
So many beautiful AC/20 shots.
